Abstract

ABSTRACTThe present study attempts to explore kinds of input and output to improve English speaking skills based on YouTube video lessons. The theory of input was proposed by Krashen, while the output was taken from the output hypothesis of Swain. This study employed qualitative descriptive method, which is a method of research that attempt to describe and interpret the objects in accordance with reality The main instrument was collecting the data, observing the data by watching the whole ten videos, then classifying every tips to two general main paths: input and output. The study showed variety of input which are found on the ten YouTube video lessons are listening that can be achieved by observing in form of listening podcast and listening music in English and learn the lyrics, and varies of reading which are reading Speed reading, Reading aloud to practice pronunciation, Reading a book, blog post, news, Reading children’s book. Kinds of output gained from those videos are speaking which are Talk to yourself, Have a speaking partner, Talk with a native, Using imitation technique, Join a discussion, Speak loudly, Make video, Creative practice, Spend time with people who speak English, and writing which is described more specifically on that video as writing a daily journal.

Abstract

Percikan dan Pemikiran  Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana tentang pemodernan bahasa Indonesia dan kebudayaan telah dibuktikan melalui karya-karyanya baik dalam karya sastra maupun bentuk buku-buku dan artikel yang   membicarakan tentang bahasa Indonesia menuju bahasa modern. Tujuan  penulisan artikel ini adalah untuk memaparkan  pandangan dan pikiran Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana  terhadap bahasa Indonesia sebagai bahasa modern dan  ikhwal ke-(budaya)-an Indonesia. Adapun metode yang diterapkan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif kualitatif, yakni memaparkan ikhwal percikan  dan pandangan dalam karya-karyanya, serta pandangan para  pakar bahasa dan para kritikus sastra, sastrawan, dan  pakar kebudayaan. Teori yang diterapkan dalam penelitian ini adalah pandangan para pakar bahasa, sastra, dan kebudayaan yang memaparkan percikan dan pandangan Sutan Takdir Alisjahbana, baik tulisan yang telah diseminarkan maupun hasil-hasil polemik kebudayaan.  Adapun hasil yang dicapai adalah berupa pandangan dan pikiran Sutan Taksir Alisjahbana, tentang bahasa dan kebudayaan ke-Indonesia-an yang tercakup dalam karya sastra termasuk buku-buku dan artikelnya yang membicara ikhwal bahasa dan kebudayaan.Kata kunci:  percikan dan pemikiran  STA, bahasa, kebudayaan

Abstract

The research aims at analyzing the types of heroism of the main character and the cause of the emergence of the heroism in the movie ‘Percy Jackson Sea of Monster’. The research method used is descriptive qualitative to analyze the type of heroism of the main character and the cause of the emergence of the hero in the book. Analysis of the type of heroism is carried out using the Morison and Labiak’s theory, while analysis of the cause of emergence of the hero is carried out using Restivo and Cherry’s theory. Observations show that the hero in the book is the main character, Percy Jackson, and the type of heroism belongs to the type of perfect hero and epic hero. The observations also show that there are two factors that cause the emergence of the heroism which are bad situation, injustice and self-sacrifice.Keywords: type of heroism, main character and cause of the emergence of the heroism

Abstract

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui problem dan  kesalahan penulisan apa yang dihadapi oleh para santri/siswa dalam menulis teks naratif berbahasa Inggris. Metode yag digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode kualitatif. Sampel penelitian adalah 25 siswa/santri di Pondok Pesantren Daar El Nayl Cilebut, Kabupaten Bogor. Penelitian ini dimulai dari bulan Maret sampai dengan bulan Agustus 2021. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: aspek penggunaan bahasa dan kurangnya penguasaan kota kata menjadi problem tersulit; terdapat 7 kesalahan yang dilakukan para santri/siswa, yakni 1) Tenses, 2) Susunan kata, 3) Bentuk kata, 4) Ejaan, 5) Perjanjian subjek-kata kerja, 6) Artikel, dan 7) Preposision. Kata kunci: menulis naratif, bahasa Inggris, pondok pesantren Daar  El Nayl   ABSTRACT         This research aims to find out what problems and writing errors faced by the students in writing narrative texts in English. The method used in this research is a qualitative method. The research sample is 25 students at the Pesantren  Daar El Nayl  Cilebut, Bogor, from March to August 2021. The results showed that: aspects of language use and lack vocabularies become the most difficult problems; there are 7 mistakes made by the students, namely: 1) Tenses, 2) Word order, 3) Word forms, 4) Spelling, 5) Subject-verb agreement, 6) Articles, and 7) Prepositions. Keywords: writing narrative, english, pondok pesantren Daarr El Nayl

Abstract

The manuscript studied in this study is the story of the Hikayat Perang Pandawa Jaya. This manuscript is themed on one of the great epics of India, namely Mahabharata. In this study, philological work steps are used to explain the description of the manuscript. In addition, this study will also present an analysis of oral aspects according to Walter J. Ong. Oral aspect analysis is used to determine the oral elements contained in the story of the Hikayat Perang Pandawa Jaya. The results of the analysis show that the Hikayat Perang Pandawa Jaya contains several oral aspects expressed by Walter J. Ong. These include additive, aggregative, close to everyday life, conservative, participatory, and homocentric. The steps of philological work are appropriate when used to study the Hikayat Perang Pandawa Jaya which is a type of old Malay manuscript.

Abstract

The article is conceptualized a lesson plan for teaching English spelling to young learners at primary school. The underlying strategy is pairing student and another peer student instead of teacher-student. Previous and present studies have shown that teaching spelling to learners can enhance other language skills, to name a few, i.e., reading and listening. Thus far, little to be found a practical lesson plan provided in the Indonesian context. Having this article is hoped to be a trigger for a new idea to consider student-student activity into the material design and its methods of teaching in the EFL context. The plan will be particularly helpful for the educators who seek perspectives in teaching and researching spelling to young learners.

Abstract

The Sentimental Aspects of the Garuda I Leave My Heart In Lebanon Film and Its Implications for Learning Indonesian Language and Literature. The aim of this research is to find out the Sentimental aspects of the film and its implications for Indonesian Language and Literature Learning.The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive method with research techniques analyzing content or content analysis. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be seen from the table of findings of the sentimental aspect of the dialogue, the table of instruments for the recapitulation of the findings and the recapitulation diagram. Therefore, it can be known and concluded that the types of sentimental aspect flow in the wide screen film entitled Troops Garuda I Leave My Heart In Lebanon, the number of data findings for the type of sentimental aspect flow is 145, with the number of data from each stream, namely the active sentimental aspect flow. there are 103 findings with a total percentage of 71.03% while the number of data findings on the type of passive sentimental flow is 42 findings with a total percentage of 28.96%. The implications of the results of this research can be an inspiration, a balancer of teaching materials and as a reference source, as well as a medium for learning Indonesian language and literature for teachers/lecturers in the current digitalization era.

Abstract

Masalah yang dibahas dalam penelitian ini adalah ketidakterpenuhinya hak warga negara terrhadap kaum minoritas yang tercermin dalam karya sastra? dan (2) bagaimana mensiasati ketidakpenuhinya hak warga negara  terhadap kaum minoritas dalam karya sastra. Selanjutnya, tujuan penelitian adalah menggali kompleksitas isu-isu ketidakterpenuhinya hak warga negara, terutama terhadap kaum minoritas yang tercermin  dalam karya sastra. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskripstif kualitatif yang dilakukan dengan memaparkan secara mendalam hak warga negara yang tergambar dalam karya sastra. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah pendekatan sosiologi sastra yang mengacu pada pandangan Sapardi Djoko Damono. Sapardi  beranggapan bahwa sastra merupakan cermin langsung dari berbagai segi struktur sosial, hubungan kekeluargaan, pertentangan kelas, dan lain-lain. Pengambilan data dilakukan melalui kepustakaan, yaitu dengan teknik simak dan catat isi novel yang menggambarkan masalah penelitian.  Dari hasil penelusuran, cerpen “Anak Itu Mau Mengencingi Jakarta” karya Ahmad Tohari dan novel “Perempuan Panggung” karya Imam Budhi Santosa, diperoleh gambaran bahwa ketidakterpenuhinya hak warga negara terhadap kaum minoritas, antara lain, berupa ketimpangan dan ketidakadilan. Ketimpangan dan ketidakadilan hak warga negara, bukan saja terhadap warga negara laki-laki dan perempuan, tetapi juga  hak hidup anak-anak yang belum dewasa. Ketimpangan tersebut dapat disiasati sehingga hak warga negara teratasi secara maksimal. Kata kunci: Hak warga negara, ketimpangan, dan ketidakadilan.

Abstract

Kanji are letter comes from China which are also used as a writing system in Japanese. Kanji are read in two ways, Onyomi and Kunyomi. The basic root of Kanji character is called Bushu. Bushu consists of many types of which one of them is called Shitagokoro. Bushu Shitagokoro is a root that has (kokoro) written at the bottom of a Kanji and symbolizes nature and feelings. Based on the theory of meaning of Denotation and Connotation by Gorys Keraf and the theory of the formation of Kanji or Rikusho, this study aims to determine the interpretation of the meaning of Kanji which has the basic character of Bushu Shitagokoro. This research examines using library research in the data collection stage and descriptive methods in the data analysis stage. The results obtained in this study are 12 Kanji in the form of Keisei Moji and Kaii Moji which have the basic character of Shitagokoro which are included in Jouyou Kanji or Kanji that are used in general. Keywords : Rikusho, Kanji Root, Shitagokoro, Denotation, Connotation

Abstract

One of the cultural elements of communication that must be considered is politeness.  Politeness is indispensable in communication, especially in Southeast Asian cultures, which have degrees of politeness. As cultural aspects affect the communicative language, politeness would be expected in society. One of the politeness implementations is the polite language used in the Buginese traditional wedding ceremony. In order to reveal politeness and its strategies in the traditional Buginese wedding ceremony, the study employed a qualitative method with observation and analytical descriptive approach by examining the politeness strategies and conversational language used in the Buginese wedding ceremony processions. The data were obtained from the video recordings of the wedding ceremony and the interviews with four newlyweds. The result showed that positive politeness strategies were predominantly used in the Buginese wedding ceremony. The study also revealed that the positive politeness strategies were closely connected to the cultural values of South Sulawesi, which showed a strict sequence of the traditional wedding ceremony that must be followed. The sequence symbolizes the tie that binds two human beings in goodness and beneficence, which must be conducted religiously. The study concludes that the language used during the traditional Buginese wedding ceremony adhered to the positive politeness principle, although the nature of the language was conversational. Keywords: politeness, politeness strategy, polite conversational language, Buginese wedding ceremony.
