Abstract

Misconceptions frequently occur in various physics concepts, including momentum and impulse. Misconceptions in students must be addressed since they can hinder the learning process. This study aimed at investigating students' misconceptions on momentum and impulse material after implementing Interactive Conceptual Instruction (ICI) with computer simulations. The method employed in this study was a quasi-experimental design with One Group Pretest-Posttest Design. This research was conducted on 30 students of the tenth grade determined by the purposive sampling technique. Fifteen four-tier test items were used as the research instrument. The N-gain analysis was performed to know the reduction of misconceptions. The results showed that the N-gain value obtained was 0.46 with moderate interpretation, meaning that Interactive Conceptual Instruction (ICI) aided with computer simulations could reduce student misconceptions. The results also indicated that the misconception after treatment was smaller than before treatment. This phenomenon can be seen from the reduction of misconceptions by 11.6% after implementing Interactive Conceptual Instruction (ICI) with computer simulations. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Interactive Conceptual Instruction (ICI) with computer simulations can facilitate students in the learning process so that misconceptions can be reduced.

Abstract

Dosimeter is one of the apparatus needed by radiation workers. From a dosimeter, radiation workers can control the absorbed dose. This research aims to investigate the properties characteristics of chitosan film for dosimeter usage. Thin-film chitosan polymer blended starch and methyl orange were prepared by phase inversion methods. The spectra were investigated by UV-Visible spectrophotometric in the wavelength range of 400-500 nm, while the optical band gap energy was investigated by the Tauch plot method. The increase in gamma rays irradiation dose affected the optical bandgap energy. It was observed that the value of band gap energy within the direct transition, indirect transition, and direct forbidden transition decreased along with the increase of gamma rays irradiation 3 and 7 kGy doses. These results indicated that gamma-ray irradiation could cause structural defects due to the excitation of non-bonding electrons. These structural defects could reduce the value of band gap energy because of the width localized states.

Abstract

Inquiry-Based Science Education (IBSE) is presented as derived from a scientific approach where students are invited to work in the way scientists work.  Studying the proximity between IBSE and scientific approach can be done through different perspectives; the focus here is on the scientific approach. The goal of this case study consists in exploring the ways in which scientists perform their research by interviewing 8 French physicists volunteers to participate in the study. This preliminary research is the first step   to analyze the contemporary physicists’ through research practices, and then to enrich and question IBSE in a different way. The interviews are analyzed in terms of moments, specifically a moment called “to explore/to experiment” with the ck¢ (conception, knowing, concept)framework allowing to model the conceptions of researchers. The results only show two common operators (R) related to the moment “to explore/ to experiment” concerning the research processes of the 8 physicists. However, zero control structures (∑) are common to any of them.

Abstract

The electrospinning method has been used successfully to make polyvinylpyrrolidone nanofiber containing Anredera cordifolia leaves (BLE). The research methods used were qualitative and pure experiment method. Polyvinilpirolidone nanofibers containing BLE were prepared with three mass variations of the polyvinylpyrrolidone (% w/w), namely 12%, 10%, and 8% w/w, respectively. The results of the macroscopic photo show that the fiber structure looks white for PVP nanofibers and yellow for PVP/BLE nanofibers. The fiber morphology was analyzed using SEM and the results showed that PVP and all PVP/BLE nanofibers were like a continuous strand of crossbars with a diameter of 590 – 1190 nm. The decrease in the concentration of the PVP polymer led to a reduction in the diameter of the resulting nanofibers. The coefficients of variance (ε), of the PVP, BLE1, BLE2, and BLE3 nanofibers were 0.06, 0.09, 0.11, and 1.22, respectively. The physicochemical structure of the nanofibers was evaluated using XRD and FTIR. The chemical analysis (FTIR) showed that there was a molecular interaction between Anredera cordifolia leaves extract and polyvinylpyrrolidone in the form of hydrogen bonds. The physics analysis (XRD) shows the effect of the electrospinning process, which is to change the structure of BLE crystals to semi crystals. The application of PVP/BLE nanofiber for wounds dressing
