Abstract

Lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus L. Rendle) and green betel (Piper betle L.) plants are native to Indonesia. Empirically betel leaf can be used as a wound healer, lemongrass leaves are widely used as medicine for insect bites. On the basis of information obtained from various literatures, in this research has been done formulation of ointment from extract combination of lemongrass, green betel leaf and natural zeolite as antibacterial of Staphylococcus aureus. The use of zeolites based on features has a three-dimensional framework structure that is interconnected so that it has a large surface. Based on these reasons, it is believed that zeolites can increase the activity of active substances in ointments. The formulation of ointment extracts of lemongrass leaves-green betel leaves and zeolites with various dosages are KZ (zeolite control), KE (20% -5%), F1 (10% -6% + zeolite), F2 (20% - 5% + zeolite), F3 (30% -4% + zeolite), F4 (20% -0% + zeolite), F5 (0% -5% + zeolite) with a fixed amount of zeolite (2 gr). Evaluation of ointment preparations including organoleptic test, pH, homogeneity, spreading test and adhesion test showed results that met the requirements. The sample was tested for antibacterial activity with positive control (gentamicin 0.1%) showed that all formulas can provide an inhibition zone against staphylococcus aureus, except KZ. Test results were analyzed using One Way Annova with sig (0,000) <p value (0,050) followed by Tukey's further tests. From this explanation it can be concluded that the formulation of ointment from extract combination of lemongrass leaves, green betel leaves and zeolites has antibacterial agent.

Abstract

Macroinvertebrate diversity is one of the biologicals and ecological indicators that allow it to become a reference in determining water quality. This study aimed to inventory and study the diversity of macroinvertebrate species using the 1 x 1 m2 transect method along the Sundak Beach, Gunung Kidul, Yogyakarta. The research was conducted on Sunday, October 13th, 2019, with a quadratic transect method of 10 stations from the lowest low tide to the middle of the sea. The data obtained in this study was the result of macroinvertebrates species inventory in each sampling point and the number of individuals of each species. The data was then analyzed using the Shannon-Weiner diversity index (H'). The results showed 45 macroinvertebrate species with 2590 numbers of individuals were found on the Sundak Beach. The most common species were Gastropods with 16 species, while the most individual species were Ophiuroidea (730 species). The diversity index of 1.28351 indicates that the diversity of macroinvertebrates in Sundak Beach is categorized as medium diversity.

Abstract

Segara Anakan areas can be divided into three different regions according to their salinity. Salinity differences suggested that Commerson’s anchovy population in that area can be divided into three subpopulations due to genetic differences. Genetic differences among subpopulation can be assessed through a population genetic study using random amplified polymorphic DNA. This study aims to evaluate the genetic variation and differences of Commerson's anchovy (Stolephorus commersonnii) collected at three different water salinities in Segara Anakan estuary Cilacap Indonesia. Total genomic DNA was isolated using the Chelex method. Genetic diversity and differences were assessed using RAPD markers and were analyzed statistically using an analysis of molecular variance, as implemented in Arlequin software. The results showed that high genetic diversity was observed within the subpopulations. However, no significant genetic differences were observed among subpopulations which indicate genetic similarity. A high number of offspring are likely to cause high genetic variation within subpopulations. Adult and larvae migration is the cause of genetics similarity across Segara Anakan. Another impressive result is that water salinity did not affect the genetic characteristic of Commerson,s anchovy. Genetic similarity of Commerson’s anchovy indicates that Segara Anakan forms a single genetic conservation unit.

Abstract

The area of rubber land in Indonesia currently reaches 3,672,213 ha which can produce 3,229,861 tons/year. The price of rubber in Indonesia is currently cheap because of low-quality latex. The low quality of latex is caused by the large production costs, one of which is the price of latex clotting material which is relatively expensive. Therefore, this studied aims to find a good alternative to latex coagulant but at low cost. Latex clumping material used in this research were noni juice and star fruit. The treatment in this study used noni juice and star fruit juice concentration of 5 ml, 10 ml, 15 ml, and 20 ml, respectively. The results showed the weight of latex with noni emulsifying agents increased by 45.58% while the administration of star fruit juice was not much different, amounting to 45.70%. However, the final weight of latex given by the emulsifying agent in the form of star fruit was higher than Noni with the difference at the highest weight reached 4.23 grams. The fastest latex clumping time at 20 ml star fruit concentration is 1.18 minutes. Based on research results noni juice and star fruit potential as a latex clot.
