Abstract

Beef cattle farming is the mainstay of Nadi Lestari Farmer Group in Perlang Village.The challenges faced by these farmers include the expensive cost of procuring cattle feed, little effect of concentrate feed on cattle productivity, farmers low proficiency in technology, high production cost due to dependence on commercial bio_activator, and environmental pollution. The purpose of this community service is to equip the farmers in this area with the knowledge on how to produce probio_Fm and process feed. The method used in this study includes preparation, socialization of the procedure of making probio_Fm, demonstration of the procedure, application of probio_Fm in feed processing, tutoring and monitoring and evaluation.The data were collected by means of interviews and questionnaires. Qualitative descriptive analysis was used to analyze the data. As a result of the community empowerment program, the farmers gained the skill to make probio_Fm and are more creative feed processing.The achievement score of the lesson material for 20 farmers is 75%.The farmers were considered creative, since probio_Fm was applied in the processing of green feed or concentrate feed. Probio_Fm-based feeding positively affected the livestock’s appetite, feed management became easier and time and cost efficient, and the environmental pollution decreased. The results of the extension showed that there were some problems in the delivery of starter materials, the characteristics of local raw materials, and the supply of electricity. The results of monitoring and evaluation suggest that the farmers are now committed to using probio_Fm.The farmers in Nadi Lestari group are assumed to be able to produce, use, and, develop probio_Fm sustainably.

Abstract

Nutrition counseling is used as one of the strategies to improve nutritional status and reduce the risk of metabolic syndrome through information transfer about balanced diet. As part of the community service program, Faculty of Human Ecology, IPB University collaborated with Bogor Municipality Health Office launched a mobile health counseling services in July 2014 to increase access to health services in Bogor, Indonesia, which includes nutrition counseling, detection of non-infectious diseases, HIV detection, and family counseling. The service runs across areas in Bogor city two to three times per month, attracted approximately 50 visitors per run. The program aimed to identify the nutritional status of visitors of mobile health counseling services. Primary data collected in this program were obtained using interview and direct measurement. Counseling was initiated by obtaining age and body height data through interview, while the body weight, Body Mass Index (BMI), and total body fat was measured using a portable body composition analyzer. Based on data collected between March 2015 and November 2017 (n = 1769) showed that majority of visitors were female (61.8) with largest age group were 40 to 49 years old (23.6) followed by age group of 50 to 59 years old (20.9). Half of the clients (50.4) have a normal nutritional status (BMI 18.5–25 kg/m2), but more than half (61.3) had a percentage of total body fat above normal value. Although the results have not been able to describe the nutritional status profile of Bogor residents, it can be a reference in formulating a nutrition program suitable for healthy populations.

Abstract

One of the efforts to increase paddy farmers’ income is to reprocess the rice hull into husk charcoal which has many benefits both for agriculture and industry. The utilization of rice hull is still limited nowadays. For example, when the harvest is abundant, the husk pollute the environment especially during harvest in the rainy season. The main purpose of this community service activity is to conduct training on how to produce husk charcoal from rice hull. The participants were paddy farmers at Sukamaju Village, Tambelang Subdistrict, Bekasi District. The activities carried out were to socialize the benefits of husk charcoal and how to make husk charcoal from rice hull. The farmers were given simple tools for the process of burning rice hull into husk charcoal and were demonstrated directly how it works until the packaging process which is ready for sale. After the training, the farmers at Sukamaju Village, are expected to be able to recycle rice hull into something which has value for sale resulting in benefits in terms of economy, crop productivity, and environmental preservation.

Abstract

Majakerta is one of the village in Indramayu which has high potential of capture fishery resources. Community empowerment through capture fishery had been done for two years and two months, since 2011-2013. The activity focused on two groups consisting of big group of fishermen (boat size more than 5 GT, 19 people) and small group one (boat size 2-5 GT, 58 people). Objective of the activity was to increase skill and knowledge of the fishermen, as a base to improve their income. From the result of activity, it was known that fishermen could increase their knowledge, skill, and income. Nevertheless, they still need assistance more intensively.

Abstract

Ayam kremes is one of specialty foods of Semarang City. Product of ayam kremes "A" located in Semarang is difficult to transport to a distant place due to short shelf life. It begins to emerge an odor after 10 hours. The objectives of this study were to determine the factors causing the problem and to improve the shelf life of the product. To solve the problem, a framework base on PDCA cycle was used. The activity was conducted in fives stages: identification of the real process in industry, analysis of the causing factors using Ishikawa diagram, improvement of production procedure, production trial using the new procedure, and organoleptic analysis. The results showed that the causes of the problem were unclean washing process, cross-contamination during carcass stabbing and unstandardized frying process. The new proposed procedures were improvement on washing process, removal of the carcass stabbing process, addition of soaking treatment to the chicken carcasses in a mixture of salt and lemon juice after a chicken carcass washed, and standarization of the frying process. The proposed procedure was able to extend the shelf life of ayam kremes "A" up to 72 hours.

Abstract

Sanjai balado Nina chips industry in Bukittinggi had some weakness on it’s product quality. The color of balado spice tended to be dark and easily faded during storage. The purpose of this extension activity was to increase the quality product by improving the formula and its production process. The major cause of lowering the quality of its product was identified by Ishikawa Diagram. The best results were analyzed using sensory test (rating hedonic test). Sensory evaluation of the 70 consumers showed that consumers mostly like the formula using 100 g of red chilli, 60 g of glucose syrup, 40 g of sugar, and 5 g of salt.

Abstract

The society at Takokak Sub-District, Cianjur have the fresh green feed issued which are limited in dry season. This society services with the aim for giving socialization and skill about silage feed technology for a group of sheep cattlemen have been done. This program was conducted with Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method which involves the society in planning and implementating the program. There are six program, as followed; 1) Choosing the member; 2) Socialization the program; 3) Training; 4) Making the silage; 5) Applying silage feed; and 6) Monitoring and evaluating. The society is very enthusiastic in implementating the program. There are six results gained from the implementation of this program, such as; 1) The society involvement was plenty enough; 2) Formed of piloting group who become the cadre and manager of “silage house”; 3) The participants knowledge increased after having socialization and training of making silage.; 4) The society could make a good standard silage which is convinient for the cattle; 5) The society could get a solution through the difficulty of gained the green feed in dry season; and 6) The society begins developing silage technology by their self. This program could be conducted well as which has been planned, and generally it could be said that the program is successful as the purposes of the program.

Abstract

Batik is a native culture from Indonesia that has been recognized as a world heritage. Indonesian batik has unique of style, color, and manufactural techniques that should be preserved. Two problem often encountered in the conservation effort of Indonesian batik, which include lack of knowledge about the styles and low skills of young craftsmen. This program aims to increase knowledge about the typical Indonesian batik, especially batik Garut and provides skillfull craftsmen. Method of activities carried out by the training, including batik and business management tutorials, discussions, practical experiment, mentoring, and sustainable monitoring. Training was conducted indoors and study visit to the business center of batik Garut. Training participants were deaf students from Special School Students (SLB) at Limbangan, Garut. The results showed that the knowledge of batik patterns and the students skills who able to make a batik Garut were increased 76 and 29%, respectively. Batik made by deaf students had a good standard and has a sale value. In addition, student's motivation for entrepreneurship in batik Garut increased. Developmental and sustainable programs were marked by making Batik Garut Istimewa (BAGARIS) as an extracurricular at SLB BC YGP Bl Limbangan, Garut in accordance with the certificate No. 015/SLB/BC/YGP/BL.L/IV/2016.

Abstract

The business of dry anchovy processing in Sathean Village, Kei Kecil Southeast Maluku was considered as a household scale with traditional open drying methods that potentially lack of hygiene and sanitation, as well as management product, recording and marketing. To overcome this problem, the Perikanan Negeri Tual team of community services was implementing transfer science and technology focusing on building capacity in simple business administration as well as developing manufacture equipment and technique of drying anchovies. There were four program’s activities that conducted, included 1) Initial community education and service; 2) Counseling on hygiene and sanitation of anchovy drying equipment; 3) Extension on simple management of business administration; and 4) Training on manufacturing and technique of anchovy dryer and its production capacity. The output was measured by the achievement of program implementation, and the result was described as follows: 1) The understanding improvement of partners on dry fish processing business, 2) The ability to make a manufacture equipment of anchovy dryers that proved by constructing two dry anchovy dryers with the size p x l x t = 308 x 208 x 250 cm, 3) The capacity to produce 35–40 kg of dried anchovy with hygienic production process, and 4) The skill to manage simple business administration.

Abstract

IbW program’s aims to organize and plan the model of agrotourism development in Tutur Sub-District, Pasuruan District, based on the people's coffee. The several methods of implementation include socialization is done by several methods ranging from discourse, discussion, practice, module making, role play, and evaluation. The model approaches to the action program include: 1) Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) model; 2) Entrepreneurship Capacity Building model (ECB); and 3) Technology Transfer model (TT). In addition, advocacy program is conducted regularly between the companion with Manunggalig Karso farmer group, Tutur Sub-district, Pasuruan District. The results of the activities of IbW Agroekowisata in Tutur Sub-District, Pasuruan District based on coffee plantation of the people, have been achieved such as: a) Agricultural people garden profile in the form of audio visual; b) Detailed spatial plan for tourism areas of coffee garden and coffee house production, in the form of maps and floor plans; c) Banner and backdrop location of Desa Wisata Kopi; d) Guest book; and e) Design of location signposts. There are several reasons that encourage a positive response during the implementation of IbW: 1) IbW programs provide the economical benefits of integrated farming of coffee, apple, chrysanthemum, and dairy cattle; 2) Community empowerment methods and strategies implemented in this activity is a very effective facilitation felt by the community, especially promotion in the form of tourist visit book, flyer & brochure of coffee agro-tourism product, and website; and 3) The involvement of various elements can create synergism between the components concerned so that empowerment runs intensively and productively which has implications for the sustainability of the program.
