Abstract

Social Forestry is part of community empowerment, aimed at communities living in and around forests. Banyurip Village is one of the inclave villages in the Perum Perhutani KPH Surakarta teak production forest area with a high poverty rate. The Banyurip Village community has joined the Banyurip Lestari Forest Village Community Institution (LMDH Banyurip Lestari). However, LMDH Banyurip Lestari has not yet been able to play an optimal role as expected. Therefore, so cooperation between various parties is needed as an effort to empower the community, especially women, by increasing the capacity of business institutions and/or entrepreneurship through the formation of Social Forestry Business Groups (KUPS) managed by woman. Activities carried out include technical guidance on the formation of KUPS, assistance in the preparation of AD/ART and preparation of group administration. The KUPS formed is called KUPS Kembang Pilang. KUPS Kembang Pilang is led by a chairman who is assisted by a secretary, treasurer, institutional management section, area management section, and business management section. When it was founded, KUPS Kembang Pilang consisted of 26 women domiciled in Banyurip Village. In the present community services program, the articles of association (AD/ART) of KUPS Kembang Pilang was composed. KUPS Kembang Pilang members known their rights and obligations to conduct sustainable forest management towards an economically independent village.

Abstract

Cangkring Village has various fishery resources, including ponds, fishponds, and access to waters that support fish farming. The Lecturer Returning Home Program aims to disseminate innovations in systems and appropriate technologies for integrated grouper fish farming through survey and training activities. This study used a survey method combined with a descriptive approach. Sampling was carried out using purposive sampling to collect data from fish farmers in Cangkring Village. The survey research was conducted to identify and analyze the potential for grouper (Epinephelus sp.) nursery and rearing based on natural resources in Cangkring Village, Indramayu. Field observations, questionnaires, and interviews were used to collect data. The recommended stocking density is around 32 fish/m3 for grouper fish rearing in KJT measuring 3×6×1 m for an initial weight of 100‒200 g, and 1,500‒2,000 fish/m3 for grouper seeds in KJT measuring 1.5×1.0×0.5 m to 2.5×1.25×0.8 m. Trash fish have great potential for the development of grouper fish breeding in tanks and ponds as well as rearing in floating net cages/floating net cages (KJT) in the estuary waters of the Cimanuk River, Cangkring Village. In addition, the coastal waters and estuaries of Cangkring Village are rich in rebon shrimp, with an abundance of around 900‒1800 fish/L. The larger the fish seeds, the lower the stocking density. This community empowerment activity is an alternative for the community to improve education and skills in fish farming which can later increase income through an integrated system of grouper nursery and rearing based on natural resources.

Abstract

The "Dosen Pulang Kampung" (Lecturer Goes Home) program is a community service effort conducted by IPB University aimed at contributing knowledge and technology to rural communities. In this activity, the authors introduced Zeoponic planting media to horticultural farmers in Mojosongo District, Boyolali. Zeoponic, a zeolite-based planting medium, is designed to address the high electrical conductivity (EC) problems in traditional planting media, which often hinder nutrient absorption. With zeolite content, Zeoponic has a high cation exchange capacity (CEC), maintaining EC and moisture stability, thus supporting optimal seedling growth. The activity was carried out in three stages: a theoretical session explaining the concept and benefits of the medium, a demonstration of its preparation directly by the farmers, and an evaluation through discussions as well as pre-test and post-test to assess participants’ knowledge improvement. A total of 30 farmers from local farmer groups in Mojosongo participated in the program. Results showed that Zeoponic could improve the quality of horticultural plant seedlings and has great potential for adoption by local farmers. This program is expected to support sustainable agriculture and enhance the welfare of farmers.

Abstract

Bima Farmer Group of Dieng Kulon Village, Banjarnegara is a micro-enterprise in the agricultural sector and a center for exotic ornamental plants, particularly Hydrangea flowers. Hydrangea is a leading commodity within the Bima Farmer Group and supports the development of tourism in Dieng Kulon, Banjarnegara. Some of the challenges faced by the group in maintaining productivity include the topography of Banjarnegara, which has a land slope of 45.04%, posing risks to effective and efficient irrigation and fertilization technologies. This research-based community service activity aims to transfer drip irrigation technology to assist in the management of water and nutrients for Hydrangea flower production. The methods used in this technology transfer activity are as follows: 1) Providing assistance and hands-on practice in nutrient management for Hortensia flower production, 2)Establishing demonstration plots using drip irrigation technology for Hortensia flower cultivation, and 3) Conducting activity evaluations to assess the farmers group's level of understanding. Results from this activity show a significant improvement in the farmer’s understanding of the technology transfer, increasing from 3–5% to 85–87%. The average number of Hydrangea flower heads per plant per season before drip irrigation was 6–9, which increased to 11–13 flower heads per plant after implementation. Fertilization became more controlled with the use of drip irrigation, and water usage was reduced by 30–55% compared to conventional methods. Nutrient and water supply remained stable due to the drip irrigation technology. The sustainability of this technology transfer has been well received by the Bima Farmer Group, which plans to expand drip irrigation to other cultivation areas.

Abstract

The three priority issues faced by the Cikandang Agro Farmers Group are 1) the flow of nutrient solution is not smooth due to clogged nozzle holes and the insoluble nutrient solids; 2) the misting flow of the nutrient solution is uneven due to leaks at several points in the nutrient solution distribution pipes; and 3) not all root zones of the plants are reached by the nutrient spray due to the nutrient solution spray not being in the form of fog. The objectives of the activity are 1) to design and to construct a system device for preparing and atomizing nutrient solutions for the production of potato seeds in an aeroponics system; and 2) improve the performance of nutrient solution preparation and atomization system devices for potato seed production aeroponics system. The implementation of activities consists of program socialization, training/technical guidance, application of technology, as well as monitoring and evaluation. The substance of the activity consists of problem and need analysis, design and assembly, as well as operation and performance tests. Success indicators were observed through pre-test and post-test which included domains of the cognitive and psychomotor of participants in mastering the technology of preparation and atomization of nutrient solutions for the production of potato seeds in the aeroponics system. Based on the evaluation through pre-test and post-test, there was an increase in the cognitive domain by 80% and psychomotor domain by 70% of participants in mastering the technological aspects of preparation and atomization of nutrient solutions for the production of potato seeds of the aeroponics system. Technical improvements to the equipment of the nutrient solution preparation and fog system produce a smooth flow of nutrient solution, and the nutrient solution spray is no longer in the form of mist but in the form of a uniform fog and is able to reach the plant root zone.

Abstract

Many rimbang harvests, which are local vegetables from Central Kalimantan, are damaged and then thrown away because they are not marketable. This is clearly due to the relatively short shelf life of rimbang fruit. Farmers who depend on the harvest as their main source of income will certainly be disadvantaged by this. In addition, rotten rimbang vegetables will have a negative impact on the environment because they produce methane gas, one of the gases that causes global warming. So this community service program innovates rimbang, where rimbang is made into a syrup drink. Rimbang syrup can be a new innovation to create new products that are competitive, have high selling value, and are durable. The implementation of the community service program took place in the Habaring Hurung Village farmer group, Bukit Batu District, Palangka Raya City, Central Kalimantan Province. This activity program was carried out through 4 stages of activities, including location surveys, collection of raw materials, training in making eggplant dodol, and success indicators. The success indicators were carried out using the pre-test and post-test methods filled out by the activity participants in the form of a questionnaire. Based on the results of the activity, it can be concluded that this activity is able to increase insight and ability on how to make syrup with rimbang as the basic ingredient, even the residents can implement and apply this food innovation independently.

Abstract

One of the ways to reduce greenhouse gases can be done through waste management from the source, because organic waste is one of the sources of methane gas that causes the greenhouse effect. The lack of education at the community level about efforts to reduce waste thrown away by processing waste is one of the causes of waste accumulation in landfills. This research aims to train the community to make an independent Vertical Composter Garden (VCG) in order to reduce organic waste in their area. The training was held in Cengkuang Village, Palimanan District, with a total of 16 participants. The method used is periodic training and mentoring followed by a final evaluation. The result obtained was that the level of understanding of participants increased after being given an explanation of waste management materials and how to make VCGs. The planting period depends on the type of plant. The fastest harvest period is only 14 days for chives, while the longest is for chili plants, which takes about 3.5 months from seeding to harvest.

Abstract

Community service activities were carried out in Palon Village, Jepon District, Blora Regency, a center for beef-cattle production. The initiative responded to the continued reliance on traditional practices, especially manual financial record-keeping and product marketing, which limit efficient, evidence-based decision-making and constrain market access to mostly local buyers. The capacity-building program equipped 27 participants (farmers, livestock keepers, and fish cultivators) with practical skills in farm recording and digital marketing through a participatory approach covering preparation, training, and evaluation with pre-test and post-test. Results show substantial gains: understanding of farm recording rose from 29,63% to 48,15%, while digital marketing comprehension increased from 37.04% to 88.89%. Two primary benefits followed: participants adopted structured financial records to track costs and revenues, and they gained digital-marketing skills that expanded market reach and increased income via online platforms. These outcomes demonstrate the program’s effectiveness in enhancing financial and digital literacy and equipping farmers with managerial and marketing capabilities aligned with the demands of the digital era.

Abstract

The mentoring activity for establishing pineapple and vegetable demonstration plots (demplots) in Taroi District, Teluk Bintuni Regency, is a collaborative effort between the Tangguh LNG Bintuni company and the University of Papua (UNIPA). This program is designed to enhance the knowledge, skills, and motivation for gardening among Taroi residents, enabling them to produce vegetables and pineapples as new economically valuable income sources. The activities were conducted across four villages: Taroi, Tambanewa, Pera-pera, and Sorondouni. The commodities used in the demonstration plots were pineapple, chili, upland kangkong (water spinach), and mustard greens. The methodology employed was a participatory approach, including surveys, interviews, training, and pre-test/post-test evaluations. The implementation consisted of five main stages: site survey, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), participant selection, preparation of tools and materials, establishment of the demonstration plots, and activity evaluation. The results indicated that the majority of the Taroi District community resides in coastal areas with relatively thick peat soil conditions. Consequently, the local residents generally had little interest in planting vegetables, except for pineapple, which was grown with minimal maintenance. Findings also showed that prior to the mentoring, 59% of participants did not know how to control pests and diseases (OPT), 25% used pesticides, 8% removed diseased plants, and 8% regularly weeded. Only a small number of participants recognized the importance of limiting seeds per planting hole (27.27%), the importance of nurseries (28.57%), and types of fertilizers (42.86%). After the mentoring sessions, the participants' knowledge and skills increased to 100%. Furthermore, 84% of participants agreed with the implementation of this activity, and 76.92% agreed that the program provides long-term benefits for the community.
