Abstract

Equibrilliant is a game-board assessment to improve students' conceptual understanding of Chemical equilibrium. This game-based learning teaching material aims to overcome pro-long misunderstandings by teacher's quick feedback and enhance students' motivation through the enjoyment of play-learning. This approach applies the formative assessment to replace conventional assessment which limits the evaluation of students’ progress, contributes to prolonged misconceptions, and creates a stressful situation and low motivation. Analysis of findings through pre-posttest reveals that Equibrilliant gameboard assessment has improved 50% of students’ conceptual achievement and provides high impact assessment with a high mean score of 4.64. Utilizing Equibrilliant is a better way of assessing students’ concepts to prepare matriculation graduates as knowledgeable, innovative, and competitive in the STEM field in the future.

Abstract

Developing ‘Future Ready’ learners in preparation of Industrial Revolution (IR) through implementation of lifelong skills-enhancement programmes collaborating with various sectors is the recent global governmental aspiration. In response to call for quality technology-enhanced ‘Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics’ (STREAM) education, SEAMEO RECSAM initiated the ‘Learning Science and Mathematics Together’ [LeSMaT (Borderless)] project-based programme under the Golden SEAMEO Basic Education and Student Networking involving blended-mode lifelong education. This article reports SEAMEO Inter-Centre Collaboration (ICC) Education 4.0 project initiative as an offshoot programme of LeSMaT involving Design and Development Research (DDR) in developing lifelong skills-enhancement e-programmes integrating STREAM education with evidence-based output under sub-themes identified from LeSMaT(Borderless) involving ‘Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation’ (ADDIE) instructional model. ‘Analysis’ of these sub-themes were made to develop criteria as guiding focus for project teams to design technology-enhanced learning (TEL) output that could showcase the knowledge/skills required during IR4.0. Literature research was also made on existing e-programmes fulfilling SEAMEO’s priorities. During ‘Design and Development’ phases, e-surveys were developed as monitoring/evaluation tools for tracking of skills-enhancement e-programmes in line with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  During ‘Implementation/Evaluation’ phases, qualitative/quantitative data collection/analysis methods were implemented involving case study and validation of e-survey entitled ‘Motivation towards STREAM education’ (MoToS). The qualitative analysis integrating ‘type 4’ multiple-case design includes analysing output illustrating curriculum innovation through transdisciplinary studies reflecting Education 4.0 and SDGs whereas quantitative method involved Rasch model to validate MoToS  to monitor/evaluate participants’ engagement  in 1st Regional Workshop on SEAMEO-ICC Education 4.0. The findings using Rasch analysis in the ‘Evaluation’ phase revealed that MoToS is reliable with measure of CA 0.98 internal consistency and ‘feeling stressed on STREAM’ is the most difficult item.  After the e-course series 2020-2022, participants' output was examined using ‘Cross-Case Analysis’ (CCA), ‘Within/Exemplary-Case Analysis’ (WCA/ECA). The e-course series produced evidence-based SDG-related outputs with exemplars integrating SEAMEO Priority Areas No.7 and No.5. Policy recommendations and suggestions for future studies related to Education 4.0 are discussed including developing innovative programmes to improve transdisciplinary quality education

Abstract

During the COVID-19, university teachers’ informatization instructional leadership (TIIL) was adopted in many countries. This attracted widespread attention. This research derived six factors from the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) including performance expectancy (PE), effort expectancy (EE), social influence (SI), facilitating conditions (FC) and behavioral intention (BI), added two new internal elements related to the individual teacher which are computer self-efficacy (CSE) and blended teaching competence (BTC). Before using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) to explore the contributing factors to TIIL by assessing interrelation between constructs within extended UTAUT model in this study. This pilot study aimed to examine the reliability and validity of modified scales incorporating Use Expectancy (UE) Scale including (PE Scale and EE Scale) used to measure use expectancy, SI Scale to measure social influence, FC Scale to measure facilitating conditions, CSE Scale to measure computer self-efficacy, BTC Scale to measure blended teaching competence, BI Scale to measure behavioral intention to adopt TIIL, and the TIIL Scale to measure teachers’ informatization instructional leadership. A total of 60 teachers from the large multi-disciplinary private undergraduate universities in Xi’an city of Shaanxi province in China participated in this research. The data was collected in November-December 2022 during the middle stages of COVID-19 pandemic. The PLS-SEM approach was used to evaluate the reliability and validity of the adapted scales. The internal consistency reliability was determined by composite reliability (CR) and Cronbach’s alpha. Convergent validity was assessed by outer loading and average variance extracted (AVE). Assessment of discriminant validity was measured by Fornell-Larcker criterion, Cross-loadings and Heterotrait-Monotrait Ratio (HTMT). Results showed after deleting nine items with lower than .40, Cronbach’s alpha values were all higher than .70. CR values were at a satisfactory level. All item values fulfilled the criteria of AVE, Fornell-Larcker criterion, cross-loadings, and HTMT. Research results revealed all adapted scales were valid and reliable to be used in future research. This study explored the influencing factors of TIIL in Chinese context, enriched the theory of TIIL, and provided practical support for the future development of TIIL.

Abstract

Adolescence is a stage in development experienced by individuals that is different from previous periods. In this period individuals face puberty which is marked by the transition from childhood to adulthood. At this time, teenagers face doubt, uncertainty, emotional instability, so that their actions often deviate from values and norms, this deviation is influenced by many aspects both from within and from outside. The aim of this research is to identify, analyze, study and conclude the factors that trigger juvenile delinquency and efforts to overcome it. The method used in the research is library research with a systematic literature review (SLR) approach. Data collection was carried out using journal search techniques with the keywords "juvenile delinquency", "triggers or causes of juvenile delinquency", "efforts to overcome juvenile delinquency", from journals indexed by Sinta or Google Scholar, and Scopus which were published in the last six years, namely 2018-2023, Data validity testing is carried out by selecting journals based on inclusion and exclusion criteria which will be reviewed is currently analyzing the data by processing all collected articles identified based on inclusion and non-inclusion, place, index, content, then described and analyzed and concluded. The results of the research show that the triggering factors for juvenile delinquency consist of internal and external factors, internal factors namely from within oneself due to an identity crisis, weak control and self-control, and lack of discipline; while external factors include family environment, lack of attention and affection from parents, broken home, low knowledge and practice of religion, poor social environment, school environment, negative influence of peers, weak economy, uncontrolled use of social media information technology, low level of education, and carefree upbringing, while efforts are being made to control it with a strong understanding and practice of religion, democratic parenting, attention and affection and treatment of teenagers according to their age, giving good role models, giving trust and responsibility, training entrepreneurial entrepreneurs, and collaboration with youth organizations in providing sports activities and religious studies. This research provides information about the factors that cause juvenile delinquency and its prevention so that parents or schools can reduce or prevent juvenile delinquency.

Abstract

The development of creativity and computational thinking (CT) has been emphasized in education through various studies and research. In activities such as problem-based learning (PBL), students are required to set and solve problems independently. However, it is often difficult for them to discover problems independently, and for teachers to evaluate them appropriately. This study focused on activities where students created problems, that is, problem-posing and examined methods for demonstrating creativity based on CT. Using this method, students were asked to modify and improve the original problem based on CT. The advantages of this method are that it encourages students to understand the structure of the problem, allows them to create entirely new problems, and helps teachers evaluate their work properly.
