Abstract

Readiness of children to enter elementary school (SD) is always based on their ability to read, write and count (calistung) so that some elementary schools provide calistung ability requirements when entering elementary school. Stages of early age based on The Independent curriculum is 0-8 years old, so early education still lasts until the child steps on the 2nd grade. Therefore the government has launched a transition period program from early childhood to elementary school, which starts in 2023, so that children get their rights acquire the capabilities of the already established foundation. Based on the results of initial observations, the implementation of the transition period in each schools are different so that one reference is needed that can help the school to implement the program. Research it aims to identify the transition period program in 4 (four) schools by using phenomenological methods, so that can produce a transition period program model that can be adapted by other schools.

Abstract

Previous research has indicated that attitudes influence various factors contributing to scientific achievement. Inadequate performance in science can limit career opportunities, underscoring the importance of comprehending how attitudes towards science can enhance overall scientific achievement. This study explored the mediating effect of attitudes towards science for the relationships between perceptions of science classroom environment, family involvement, and science self-efficacy with science achievement. This research was conducted as a non-experimental quantitative research. Questionnaires from modified established instruments, Test of science-Related Attitudes, What Is Happening In this Class, Family Involvement Questionnaire- High School Version, Sources of science Self-Efficacy, and science Achievement Test, were sent out to participants via Google Form in different days for a span of two weeks.  A total of 148 Form 2 upper-secondary school students from various districts in Sabah participated in this study.  Data were analyzed using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling method. The results revealed that Social Implications of science had a significant positive mediating effect between perceptions of science classroom environment and science achievement. Additionally, there was no significant mediating effect of attitudes toward science on the relationship between science self-efficacy, and family involvement with science achievement. Overall, this study suggests that an aspect of attitudes toward science, the Social Implications of science, was an important mediator between students’ perceptions of science classroom environment and science achievement. This meant that students would perform better in science when they perceived their science classroom better, in the condition that they value the implications that science brings to real life.

Abstract

In today’s digital era, many students exhibit low interest in mathematics, which often hampers their overall academic performance. This study investigates the effectiveness of a Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach in enhancing students’ engagement and enthusiasm for mathematics. The research involved 58 sixth-grade students from two elementary schools in Palembang and Tangerang, Indonesia. A quantitative design was employed, utilizing pre-tests, post-tests, feedback sheets, and structured questionnaires to assess changes in student participation and understanding. The findings revealed a substantial improvement in students’ comprehension and motivation, with average scores increasing from 58.21 (pre-test) to 89.29 (post-test). Feedback and questionnaire analyses further demonstrated positive responses, with success rates exceeding 78% and 82%, respectively. These results suggest that integrating CTL strategies into mathematics instruction can effectively promote active participation and deepen conceptual understanding. The study recommends that educators adopt interactive learning models to foster stronger engagement in mathematics.

Abstract

Twenty-first-century education requires learners not only to achieve academic proficiency but also to be socially, morally, and environmentally responsible. STEM approaches are proven to enhance cognitive skills, yet they often neglect spiritual and value-based dimensions, limiting their contribution to sustainable learning. This study aims to analyze the concept and implementation of Spiritual-STEM (IS-STEM) for sustainable learning, focusing on teachers ’ understanding, classroom practices, and the dual impacts on students ’ cognitive and affective development. A Systematic Literature Review (SLR) was conducted using the PRISMA model. Articles were retrieved from Scopus, Web of Science, ERIC, SpringerLink, MDPI, Taylor & Francis, Wiley Online Library, covering the period 2019-2025. A total of 412 articles were identified, of which 21 met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed using data extraction and thematic synthesis. The review found that IS-STEM served as a bridge between technical competencies and the internalization of spiritual values. Common pedagogical approaches include Project-Based Learning (PjBL), Engineering Design Process (EDP), and Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI). Findings indicate dual benefits: cognitive improvement (conceptual understanding, systems thinking, and problem-solving) and affective development (environmental awareness, social empathy, and moral orientation). Integrating spirituality into STEM strengthens a holistic and sustainable education paradigm. IS-STEM is highly relevant for Muhammadiyah schools and adaptable to global contexts, balancing modern scientific literacy with spiritual development. Further research is recommended to test IS-STEM ’ s effectiveness empirically and to develop valid instruments for evaluating the spiritual dimensions of learning.
