Abstract

Objectives: This research explores the impact of internal and external locus of control (LOC) and mediating role of intrinsic motivation on business performance’s MSME owners in Indonesia.Methodology: This study employs Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) for quantitative analysis. The sample includes 157 MSME owners in Indonesia, selected through convenience sampling.Finding: The findings reveal that internal LOC influences business performance, with intrinsic motivation enhancing this effect as a mediator. Conversely, external LOC does not impact business performance, and intrinsic motivation does not mediate its effect. This indicates that MSME owners with a strong internal LOC tend to achieve better business performance, especially when driven by intrinsic motivation. Conclusion: The originality of this study concludes the truth of the EEP Theory, which explains role of entrepreneurial motivation in relationship between the influence of LOC with business performance. Its empirical findings strengthen previous research, and provide a perspective that confirms that generally business owners have an intrinsic motivation orientation with high internal LOC, they see and have a strong belief that business success is something that is under their control and is reinforced by the motive to achieve success. In contrast, their external LOC is low and has no influence on their intrinsic motivation and business performance.

Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to explore the relationship between risk propensity, risk perception, and investment decisions among millennials in West Java, Indonesia. The study particularly examines how risk perception mediates the relationship between risk propensity and investment choices.Methodology: A purposive sampling method was used, with 500 respondents from the millennial generation, aged 24-39 years, who have at least one year of experience in investments. The data was collected via online surveys and analyzed using correlation and mediation analysis with Process v.34 by Andrew F. Hayes.Findings: The results demonstrate that risk propensity has a direct positive effect on investment decisions. Additionally, risk perception significantly mediates the relationship between risk propensity and investment decisions. Millennials with higher risk propensity tend to make more risk-taking investment decisions, but the level of their risk perception influences the final decision-making process. Conclusion: This research contributes to a deeper understanding of how risk behaviors, particularly risk propensity and perception, shape investment decisions among millennials. It provides valuable insights for investors and practitioners in the field of digital investment, suggesting that fostering better risk perception could lead to more informed investment decisions.

Abstract

Objective: Regional economic growth is greatly influenced by the ability of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to innovate and adapt to market changes. This study aims to analyze the effect of product innovation and innovation-based marketing on the competitiveness of MSMEs and their impact on local economic growth in West Java Province.Methodology: This research is an explanatory quantitative study using the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) approach. The research population includes all MSME actors in the creative industry, agribusiness, and service sectors in West Java, with a sample of 200 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data collection was conducted through a structured questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability.Findings: The results showed that product innovation and innovation-based marketing had a positive effect on the competitiveness of MSMEs, and competitiveness was proven to mediate the influence of these two variables on local economic growth. These findings suggest that enhancing innovation capacity and adopting adaptive marketing strategies are crucial factors in strengthening the market position of MSMEs while driving regional economic development. Conclusion: The practical implication of this study is the need for local government policy support to enhance the innovation ecosystem and digitization of MSMEs, creating inclusive and sustainable regional economic development

Abstract

Objectives: This research endeavors to investigate how profitability and growth opportunities shape firms’ capital structure decisions, while also elucidating the moderating influence of equity market timing (EMT) within these associations. The inquiry centers on coal mining enterprises—an industry distinguished by capital-intensive operations and pronounced sensitivity to market fluctuations.Methodology: Adopting a quantitative paradigm, this study utilizes panel data drawn from 23 coal mining firms listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) for the 2019–2023 period. The sample is determined through purposive selection. Moderated regression analysis serves to assess the interplay between profitability, growth opportunities, and capital structure, with EMT incorporated as a moderating construct. All variables are operationalized through financial ratios and processed using EViews software to ensure analytical rigor.Finding: Empirical evidence discloses a significant inverse nexus between profitability and capital structure, signifying that more profitable entities exhibit a diminished proclivity toward debt financing, favoring internally generated funds instead. Conversely, growth opportunities manifest a positive and significant relationship with leverage, implying that firms with broader expansion prospects are predisposed to augment their indebtedness. Moreover, EMT intensifies these dual tendencies—fortifying the adverse link between profitability and leverage while concurrently amplifying the positive association between growth opportunities and debt usage. Conclusion: Collectively, the findings underscore that capital structure formation is not solely contingent upon internal financial attributes such as profitability and growth potential but is equally sculpted by external capital market conditions. Firms, therefore, appear to recalibrate their financing configurations strategically, navigating between internal performance dynamics and the temporal advantages presented by favorable market valuations.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to analyze the influence of transformational leadership and organizational culture on employee performance, with organizational commitment serving as a mediating variable at CV Aquaku Jaya Bersama in Dompu Regency, West Nusa Tenggara.Methodology: This study uses a quantitative causal approach with a population of 78 employees. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS version 3 software. The analysis procedure included measurement evaluation, structural modelling, and direct and indirect hypothesis testing.Findings: The results showed that transformational leadership did not directly influence employee performance but had a positive and significant effect on organisational commitment. Organisational culture has a positive and significant influence on both organisational commitment and employee performance. In addition, organisational commitment positively influenced employee performance and substantially mediated the relationship between transformational leadership and employee performance. However, organisational commitment did not mediate the relationship between organisational culture and employee performance. Conclusion: This study emphasises the importance of building organisational commitment to improve employee performance through leadership and work culture approaches.

Abstract

Objectives: The objective of this study is to analyze the effect of role ambiguity and work-family conflict on job stress among banking employees in Bengkulu City.Methodology: The study used a quantitative approach with data collected from 180 respondents through purposive sampling. The participants were permanent or contract banking employees with a minimum of one year of work experience. Data analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling - Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). Validity and reliability tests were performed, including AVE (>0.50), Composite Reliability (CR), and Cronbach’s Alpha (>0.70).Finding: All indicators met the validity and reliability criteria: The AVE values were: Role Ambiguity (0.76), Work-Family Conflict (0.74), and Job Stress (0.77). The R-Square (R²) value for Job Stress was 0.578, indicating that 57.8% of job stress variability can be explained by role ambiguity and work-family conflict. Hypothesis testing showed: Role Ambiguity had a positive and significant effect on Job Stress (β = 0.429, t = 6.215, p = 0.000), Work-Family Conflict had a positive and significant effect on Job Stress (β = 0.378, t = 5.801, p = 0.000).Conclusion: The study concludes that both role ambiguity and work-family conflict significantly increase job stress among banking employees. To mitigate this, bank management should focus on clarifying employee roles and providing programs that support work-life balance.

Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to analyze the role of the business environment in improving the competitiveness of the traditional medicine industry in West Java by identifying business environment factors that affect competitiveness and measuring the significance of the influence of each factor.Methodology: The research used a mixed method approach with explanatory sequential design. Quantitative data collection was conducted through a structured survey of 222 traditional medicine businesses in West Java selected by stratified random sampling based on business scale and geographical area. Qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews and focus group discussions with 18 key informants. Data analysis used multiple regression, structural equation modeling (SEM), and ANOVA, integrated with content analysis for qualitative data.Finding: The results showed that seven dimensions of the business environment significantly influenced the competitiveness of the traditional medicine industry with a value of R² = 0.613. Market access (β = 0.312) and technology and innovation (β = 0.286) are the most dominant factors, while raw material availability has the highest perception (mean = 3.87). There were significant gaps in technology and innovation (mean = 2.65) and access to finance (mean = 2.78). ANOVA analysis showed significant differences in competitiveness levels based on enterprise scale (F = 18.653, p < 0.01), with larger-scale enterprises showing higher competitiveness. Conclusion: The business environment plays an important role in improving the competitiveness of the traditional medicine industry in West Java. A holistic approach is needed in developing a conducive business environment, including simplifying regulations, strengthening the innovation ecosystem, developing market access, and special financing schemes to encourage the transformation of the traditional medicine industry towards a more modern and globally competitive industry. An integrated and ecosystem-based industrial development approach is key to improving the competitiveness and sustainability of this industry in the long term.
