Blind children are individuals who experience abnormalities in the sense of vision, so that the eyes cannot function normally. This child is one type of child with special needs who has abnormalities in the sense of vision that require services, both in terms of education and health specifically. To overcome this, media is used as a tool used for delivery, one of which is a Sensor-Based Education Model through Phantom 3D (PHANKESGI) Against Tooth Brushing Skills. Research Purpose: Produce Sensor-Based Education Model through Phantom 3D (PHANKESGI) as a learning medium to improve toothbrushing skills and reduce debris index in blind children. The method used in this research is Research and Development (R & D) with 5 stages of research, namely information collection, model design, expert validation and revision, model / product trials and model / product results. The quasy experiment design used is a non randomized pre and post-test group control design. Purposive sampling technique, consisting of 5 intervention group children and 5 control group children, with treatment duration given for 21 days. The results of 3D expert validation (PHANKESGI) showed a p-value of 0.858 and an average of 90.8%, which means that this model is feasible as an effort to improve toothbrushing skills in blind children. This model was effective in improving knowledge (p = 0.001), attitude (p = 0.001), and action (p = 0.001) towards teachers and effectively improving brushing skills (p = 0.005) and lowering debris index scores (p = 0.041) compared to the control group. Conclusion: 3D Development (PHANKESGI) is effective in improving toothbrushing skills in blind children.

Deciduous tooth eruption is a fundamental physiological milestone in toddler growth that indicates the maturation of the stomatognathic system. This study aimed to analyze the sociodemographic determinants of parents—specifically education, occupation, income, and health insurance ownership—on the eruption of deciduous teeth in toddlers. This analytical observational research employed a crosssectional design involving 167 toddlers in Pedurungan Tengah Subdistrict, selected via simple random sampling. Data were collected through intraoral examinations and validated questionnaires, then analyzed using the Chi-square test (p<0.05). The research findings revealed that the majority of toddlers had normal eruption patterns, yet statistical analysis showed no significant relationship between father’s education (p=0.554), mother’s education (p=0.284), father’s occupation (p=0.578), mother’s occupation (p=0.220), parental income (p=0.900), or National Health Insurance (JKN) ownership (p=0.091) with tooth eruption status. In conclusion, parental sociodemographic factors are not direct determinants of deciduous tooth eruption in this population, suggesting that biological factors or specific nutritional intake may play a more dominant role than social status. These results imply that dental health promotion should target all socioeconomic layers equally, focusing on nutritional quality rather than economic capacity.

Fixed orthodontic appliances to correct malocclusion and maintain periodontal tissues have complex designs and appliance shapes that can accelerate plaque formation. Preventive efforts to maintain oral hygiene status during treatment of fixed orthodontic devices can be done by using alternative mouthwashes made from natural ingredients, one of them is forest honey. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of rinsing with 10% forest honey solution on reducing plaque accumulation in fixed orthodontic appliance patients. Type of research was Quasi Experiment with Pre-Post Test with Control Group Design. A sample of 40 people was divided into a control group rinsing with distilled water and a treatment group rinsing with 10% forest honey solution for 4, 6, and 8 days. Assessment of plaque accumulation using the Orthodontic Plaque Index (OPI). Data test results were normally distributed and homogen (p>0.05). One Way Anova test showed a significant difference between OPI before and after in the control group and treatment group (p<0,05). Post Hoc LSD results showed insignificant values (p>0.05) in group K (aquadest) and group P1 (4 days), while in group P2 (6 days) and P3 (8 days) rinsing 10% forest honey solution showed significant values (p<0.05). Rinsing with 10% forest honey solution for 6 days and 8 days is effective in reducing plaque accumulation in fixed orthodontic appliance patients.

Saliva plays a vital role in maintaining oral health through its cleansing, buffering, and remineralization functions. Children aged 11–12 years are at high risk of dental caries due to the frequent consumption of sugary foods and inadequate oral hygiene practices. Adequate saliva production and stable pH are key factors in preventing caries. Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.), a plant rich in fiber and sucrose, has the potential to increase saliva volume and pH through mechanical stimulation. This study aims to evaluate the effects of chewing sugarcane on saliva volume and pH in children aged 11–12 years. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach. The sample consisted of 45 elementary school students who met the inclusion criteria. The intervention involved chewing 50 grams of sugarcane for 5 minutes. Saliva volume was measured using the draining method, while saliva pH was assessed using a pH meter. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon statistical test. The results showed that the average saliva volume significantly increased from 0.94 ± 0.81 mL to 2.41 ± 1.86 mL (p < 0.05). However, the change in saliva pH from 7.07 ± 0.28 to 7.1 ± 0.47 was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). In conclusion, chewing sugarcane effectively increases saliva volume but does not significantly affect saliva pH. Sugarcane has potential as a natural material to enhance saliva production, which can support oral hygiene. However, the sucrose content in sugarcane should be considered due to its potential for bacterial fermentation. Further research is needed to evaluate the long-term effects of chewing sugarcane on overall oral health.

Essential oils are widely incorporated into dental materials to enhance their antibacterial properties, including patchouli essential oil (PEO) derived from Pogostemon cablin Benth. PEO contains bioactive compounds such as Patchouli Alcohol (PA), phenols, steroids, and terpenoids, which contribute to its antimicrobial activity. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of PEO addition on the setting time of glass ionomer cement (GIC). Twenty cylindrical GIC specimens (2 mm × 10 mm) were tested using Vicat’s needle and divided into four groups based on the powder:PEO:liquid ratios: Group A (control), Group B (2:1:1), Group C (3:1:2), and Group D (3:2:1). Data were analysed using One-Way ANOVA and Tukey’s test (p < 0.05). The addition of PEO to GIC’s liquid is significant (p < 0,05) decreased the setting time of group B, C, and D. Modifying GIC with PEO showed a significant decrease in setting time in group B with a comparison ratio (2 : 1 : 1). All results remained within ISO 9917-1:2007 limits. Further studies are needed to assess long-term stability and mechanical performance.

Background: The elderly population in Indonesia is estimated to increase to 2.1 billion by 2050. The increase in the number of elderly people causes an increase in problems due to aging. The elderly experience decreased cell function which cases physical limitations, especially in brushing their teeth. Tooth loss can also reduce the motivation of the elderly to brush their teeth. Physical limitations and decreased motivation affect tooth-brushing behavior, resulting in poor oral hygiene status. Other conditions that cause poor oral hygiene in the elderly are systemic diseases and medication use. Purpose: To determine the correlation between tooth brushing behavior and oral hygiene status in the elderly in Bantul in 2024 (Study at the Budi Luhur Nursing Home and the Madania Foundation). Method: This type of research is observational analytic with a cross-sectional design. This study took place in July 2024 and the research subjects were 42 people aged ≥ 60 years selected using total sampling. Tooth brushing behavior was measured using a questionnaire of knowledge, attitudes, and actions while oral hygiene status was measured using the Oral Hygiene Index Simplified (OHIS). Data analysis used the Chi-Square test. Result: The study found a significant correlation (p<0,05) between tooth brushing knowledge, attitude, action, and behaviour toward oral hygiene status. Conclusion: There is a correlation between tooth brushing knowledge, attitude, action, and behavior toward oral hygiene status in the elderly in Bantul Yogyakarta (Study at Budi Luhur Nursing Home and Madania Foundation)

Health promotion in elementary school age is an ideal time to train motor skills and improve children's cognition. The success of dental health promotion is influenced by the presence of interesting game media used by dental and oral therapists as the main competency in promotive efforts. Health workers are expected to be able to use media appropriately, be able to design and produce game media. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the use of promotional media by dental and oral therapists in Kupang City in improving elementary school children's knowledge about dental health. The research method used in the study was Quasi Experiment with a two group pre-test and post-test design. Sampling was carried out using multistage cluster random sampling with a sample size of 220 children in 11 elementary schools fostered by UKGS from 11 health centers throughout Kupang City. The sample was divided into 2 groups, namely 110 children who used media provided by dental and oral therapists as the control group and 110 children who used puzzle game media provided by researchers as the treatment group. The knowledge variable was measured using a questionnaire, most of the data were not normally distributed so data analysis was carried out using Mann-Whitney. The results of the analysis of differences using the Mann-Whitney Test at pre-post 2 showed a significant increase in knowledge in both groups. The mean value in the control group was 184.72 lower than the treatment group of 256.28. This study concluded that puzzle game media is more effective in providing dental and oral health education to elementary school children compared to promotional media used by dental and oral therapists.

Low utilization of dental services among pregnant women, ranging from 35.5% to 49%, is often caused by barriers such as cost, limited awareness, myths about oral health during pregnancy, and fears regarding dental treatment’s impact on the fetus. Local data from the prenatal class and dental clinic at Puskesmas Baki, Gedongan, Sukoharjo, indicate similarly low rates of dental check-ups. This study aimed to develop and evaluate the ‘Ibu Peri Cerita’ mobile application as a tool for self-screening and improving oral health knowledge during pregnancy. A pre-post test design was used with an experimental sample of 23 pregnant women, who were first asked to answer ten oral health knowledge questions.. Participants then used the application to perform a self-assessment and receive educational content, followed by a post-test. The results showed a notable increase in knowledge scores, with the average pre-test score at 4.61 improving to 6.48 post-intervention. Minimum scores increased from 1 to 4, and maximum scores from 8 to 9. These findings suggest that the ‘Ibu Peri Cerita’ application is effective in increasing oral health literacy among pregnant women. The improvement in awareness is expected to support better prenatal health outcomes and contribute to reducing the risk of low birth weight and stunting.
