Abstract

Dressing in unwelcome contemporary fashion to mistakenly conceal one’s identity in the name  of beauty is one of the causal factors of moral degradation threatening our young generation. To establish their identity and charming personality, many young girls perform malfunction of what they should politely and proportionally wear for the sake of the latest mode and art although they have to break religious laws and teachings. To deal with this phenomenon, regions governed under Islamic law establish suitable fashion criteria and administer mild punishment to whoever violates the policy. Some opponents of the rule have voice protest against it, claiming that it violates women’s right to express their style through fashion. It is widely known that there are some ill-conceived policies stirring up violence against the human rights. However, some policies formulated by Islamic legal administers in Takengon, Central Aceh, have granted women the right to wear the fashion of their choice. Here, the author wants to impart the wisdom of Islamic law in setting down the rule on fashion and in giving young women their rights. The wisdom can act as guidance for lawmakers against the formulation of divisive policies violating human rights. The rule on Islamic fashion in this discussion is based on the Syafi’i teaching that women must cover up their entire body except for the face and the palms of the hands. The wisdom of the Islamic rule is that it reminds and urges young girls to confide in their parents to ensure that their existence as women is protected.

Abstract

Reconstructing women to obtain a role equal to that of men requires cognizance on how to deconstruct the dominant ideology of the patriarch. As representation plays as a mean of legitimating or preserving ideology and social phenomenon, women should be put forward taking roles traditionally accomplished my men. This is not an easy task however, because at the end actual representation ultimately reflects social culture.

However, they tend to be cautious if the problem is related to religious courts, such as witnesses, inheritance, and polygamy. The communication patterns of UIN Sunan Kalijaga’s students are assertive. Assertive is the best communication pattern because the individuals respect themselves and others. Assertive communication does not only beware to the end of the result but also the feeling of a relationship between humans. Therefore, it indicates that the majority of Sunan Kalijaga UIN students have excellent communication patterns. The hypothesis in this study is rejected because generally there are no relations between gender sensitivity and communication patterns. However, if the case is analyzed one by one, some of the cases in senior students, gender sensitivity has an influence on communication patterns, even though it is insignificant.]

Abstract

This article talks about the patterns of Muslims in raising families with respect to the modern era. The Muslim family often faces forms of identity crises, faced in the global era with the need to hold on to tradition, while at the same time conforming to modernity. The best way to face such a conflict would be to engage in dialogue traditions and modernity. In that context, it needs to be pointed out that Islam does not always give the answers hoped for by its believers with respect to socio-cultural realities. This fact is related to the transcendent nature of Islam, in the form of normative-dogmatic requirements. This ground has led to theological conflicts between the need to hold on to normative doctrine and the desire to give new perpectives towards the doctrine as to be interpreted historically. This conflict has often sparked theological, intellectual and social conflicts within Muslims as a whole. Therefore, the Islamic conception that aims to establish an economically independent, traditionally rich and emotionally sensitive family, needs to be discussed, so that Muslim families can continue to survive in the midst of the global realities.

Abstract

The fact that the Qur'an explicitly mentions about women as witnesses, and have the rights to receive inheritance is in itself a revolutionary advancement steps promoted by Islam for women's rights in the era. This means that the Qur'an acknowledges and recognizes not only women as individuals but also women's legal capacity and rights in social life, ideas that have never been observed by Arabian society of the seventh century. In this era women were denied access to inheritance, even they were seen as parts of objects of inheritance. Islam has radically changed this tradition by elevating women to be autonomous subjects of legal entity. Although the Chapter of Al-Baqarah verse 282 mentions about the necessity to have two women witnesses to replace one male witness, this should not mean that women are inherently inferior than men in terms of their capacity and rights to legal engangement. But we should see the spiritual message of this revolutionary offer provided by the Qur'an, that women can act as witnesses in business, in public affairs. Nowadays women have achieved and showed their intellectual and social capacity to be autonomous legal subjects, therefore the paper suggests that women can be witnesses in any businesses as far as they are knowledgable about the issues.

Abstract

It is very interesting to bring discourse on homosexuality and lesbianism, particularly from a psychological perspective into the arena of Islamic discourse. Study of homosexuality and lesbianism becomes even more interesting when we try to elaborate on the psychological theories of sexuality from the expert and pioneer of psychoanalysis, Sigmund Freud. Freud was considered by some as anti-God, anti-establishment, anti-argument, anti-consciousness and anti-rationality. This was because Freud created inner psychology, which not only examined the visible indications of the soul, but also those things connected to dreams, hysteria and imaginings. This article discusses the phenomena of homosexuality and lesbianism from a psychological perspective, mainly focusing on the theories of Freud. This is because Sigmund Freud is the psychologist who proposed psychoanalysis, which introduced and spread.

Abstract

Wearing the veil relates very much to hermeneutical reception to the Qur’an, though the development and  variety of designs are in accordance with socio-cultural as well as political circumstances. This article discusses the existence of veil in West Sumatera, among the Minangkabau people after Paderi period. Applying a social-history approach with a descriptive-analitical method, this research ends with some interesting findings. In the past in West Sumatera, a specific veil called a mudawarah or lilik became popular as an effect of the reformation of Islamic Education there. The political policies of the New Order period, as well as during the reformation years of increased capitalism, the veil developed a new shape and the wearing of the mudawarah was slowly marginalized. This phenomena shows that although the aesthetic shape of the veil comes from initial text, its development shows such a creative interpretation of the text

Abstract

Sehubungan dengan hal ini maka pemahaman eklesiologi berperspektif feminis perlu dibuat agar gereja bisa menjalankan perannya sebagaimana tujuan semula dibentuk, yaitu sebuah lembaga yang terbuka dan menyalurkan cinta kasih dan perhatian bagi semua orang.[Discrimination against women and weak people takes place not only in the community but also in the Church, which actually teaches about love and no distinction. Discrimination appears in the texts of the Bible and in the church’s teachings, which are manifested in the language used for God, the liturgy (etiquette of worship), the leadership of the Church and the ecclesiology (understanding) of the Church. These teachings not only marginalize women but also make women less recognized and even not allowed to have a role in the service of the Church. This condition causes suffering, especially for those who have experienced oppression and injustice in society, such as prostitutes, victims of trafficking, the poor and the weak. Therefore, an ecclesiology understanding based on feminist perspective needs to be developed. So, the Church can conduct its ordinary roles, such as an inclusive institution for spreading the love and care for everyone.]

Abstract

Struggle of Feminist to free up women from patriarchal domination and put them on par with men was not as expected by most women. There are Hizbut-Tahrir Indonesia (MHTI), women's subordinate HTI doing rejection. According to them, the biological nature of women different from men, and that by nature also carries implications for the different roles; women at home caring for children, men earn a living. For them Islam is very clear is appeasement. Ideas and discourses of gender equality is a Western conspiracy to destroy Islam through the women and families. From a historical perspective, the rejection was due to the accumulation of disappointment and trauma that so long Western domination of the Muslim world that Muslims suffered adversity, hence the anti-Western stance. From the perspective of ideologicaldoctrinal, because of their belief that Islam is perfect, so it is not necessary ideology and doctrines other than Islam. Only by returning to the Islamic Shariah and Khilafah system alone, Muslims can regain its former glory. From an epistemological perspective, the rejection was due to their highly textual understanding of the Qur'an and hadith, ignoring the historical text and interpreter. Resistant attitude can also be seen from the perspective of ecofeminism is a conservative women's group that provides a form of resistance to establish and articulate feminine roles are regarded as potential women that must be preserved
