Abstract

Abstract

Independent palm oil smallholders cannot market fresh fruit bunches (FFB) directly to the mill. Various factors influence the marketing process of FFB. Tauke (middlemen or collectors) play a significant institutional role in the marketing of FFB for many independent smallholders. This study aims to (1) identify the characteristics of independent palm oil smallholders, (2) analyse smallholders’ satisfaction with taukeperformance and the importance of tauke attributes from the smallholders’ perspective, and (3) examine the relationship between smallholder characteristics and their satisfaction with tauke attributes. A survey method was employed, and respondents were selected using purposive sampling, with a total sample of 88 smallholders. The findings revealthat the smallholders are predominantly of productive age, mostly senior high school graduates or equivalent, have 14–19 years of farming experience, manage land areas between 2.91 and 3.80 hectares, have 1–2 family dependents, exhibit a moderate to high level of cosmopolitanism, receive limited agricultural extension services, and access a relatively wide range of information sources. The level of satisfaction among smallholders is categorised as satisfied, and the attributes that need to be maintained are located in quadrant II of the importance-performance analysis. The relationships between smallholder characteristics and tauke performance are generally positive and significant, though with low correlation coefficients. An exception is found in the relationship between farming experience and the attribute of high pricing, which is negative and significant, albeit with a low correlation. Furthermore, smallholder characteristics are found to have a highly significant but weakly correlated positive relationship with the perceived importance of tauke attributes.Policymakers can better understand the consequences of research when it comes to bolstering agricultural supply chains. Without discounting the function of tauke or collecting dealers, the establishment of cooperative structures increases small farmers' negotiating power.

Abstract

The Village Fund Program launched in recent years has yielded varying impacts across rural areas in Indonesia. One of the measurable indicators of its effectiveness is the contribution toward achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the village level. This study aims to (1) identify and understand the village fund programme in the food security sector, (2) examine the implementation of the programme, and (3) analyse the relationship between the implementation of the village fund programme for food security and community perceptions regarding the achievement of Village SDG 2 (Zero Hunger). A purposive sampling method was used to select beneficiaries of the food security program in Gunung Labu Village (Kayu Aro Barat Sub-district), Hamparan Pugu Village (Air Hangat Barat Sub-district), and Talang Kemulun Village (Danau Kerinci Sub-district). The research employed a quantitative approach with an observational design. The results show that the food security program is one of the prioritised components of the Village Fund, annually budgeted through village planning documents and implemented through both physical infrastructure development and community empowerment initiatives. The Chi-square test (α = 0.05) indicates a statistically significant relationship between the program’s implementation and community perceptions of SDG 2 achievement (χ² = 20.241 > χ²table = 9.488). It can be concluded that the implementation of the village fund programme for food security is positively associated with community perceptions of achieving Village SDG 2. Communities that have benefited—either directly or indirectly—from the programme tend to perceive better progress toward SDG 2, while those who have not experienced the benefits tend to perceive lower levels of achievement.

Abstract

Corn is a strategic commodity that can be used as a substitute for rice, therefore, corn production requires serious attention in efforts to support national food security. Harvested area and productivity are two key factors influencing corn production levels. Therefore, accurate analysis is needed to determine the extent to which these two factors impact corn production in an effort to strengthen food security. This study aims to analyze the influence of harvested area and productivity on corn production in various provinces in Indonesia in 2023. The method used is panel regression analysis, which allows testing the influence of independent variables (harvested area and productivity) on the dependent variable (corn production) by considering both time and regional dimensions. The results show that harvested area and productivity have a significant effect on corn production at the provincial level. Provinces with high harvested area and productivity tend to have greater corn production. However, there is variation between provinces due to differences in climate conditions and other factors. These findings have important implications for the planning and development of the corn agricultural sector, where targeted increases in harvested area and productivity can support increased national corn production. However, such improvement strategies need to be tailored to the characteristics of each region.

The data analysis method used SEM - PLS. The results showed that the description of internal factors, external factors of farmers, and the use of production inputs were in the medium category. The category of productivity and sustainability of potato farming was in the low category. The internal factor that was a determinant of productivity and sustainability of potato farming was the farm income variable. External factors that are determinants of productivity and sustainability of farming are access to credit, access to technology, access to access. This research aims to analyze the impact of internal factors, external factors and technology adoption on productivity and sustainability of potato farming. Meanwhile, the variable of production input use that is a determinant factor of productivity and sustainability of potato farming is land area and fertilizer use. Internal and external factors that need to be considered in modeling increasing productivity and sustainability of potato farming are the use of production inputs by means of assistance with production facilities, working capital assistance and technological assistance. This can be done through policies to increase farmer access to credit, production facilities and potato farming technology.
