Abstract

The research was conducted to determine the feasibility of financial on beef cattle farming and calculate the Break Even Point (BEP) in Sleman District. Survey methods was done to collect primary data at the farm level and secondary data from related institution. Criteria used to analyze the feasibility of financial were consisted of Benefit Cost Ratio (BCR), Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and Payback Period (PPC), based on 7 years investment and 12% annual discount factor. The result showed that based on NPV, IRR, BCR and PPC analysis, the most feasible investment of cattle breeding farm under farmers’ condition was achieved when farmers keep Limousine grade cattle, followed by Simmental and Ongole grade cattle. In term of PPC, farmers who keep Limousine grade cattle were able to return the investment during 3.25 years while for Simmental and Ongole grade cattle were 3.44 and 5.19 years, respectively. The BEP of keeping Simmental, Limousine and Ongole grade cattle were 8, 9 and 7 cows/farmer, respectively, which mean that farmers will annually benefited from keeping cattle when the number of cows was larger than those of BEP.

Abstract

Contract farming is expected to reduce asymmetric information and price uncertainty of products. In partnership of peanut farmers with PT Bumi Mekar Tani (BMT) in Lombok, contract farming is intended to increase the performance of supply chain. Farmers may be interested in entering into the contract if it guarantees them to have better benefit. After two years running this contract farming, there is no evaluation about participant’s satisfaction and about the performance of peanut supply chain. This paper reports participants’ satisfaction in conducting their business under the contract and the performance of peanut supply chain. Data were collected based on semi-structured questionnaire and analyzed using Customer Satisfaction Index and Importance Performance Analysis. Descriptive and Factor Analysis are used to understand supply chain performance and its significant factors. The results show most farmers satisfy on the partnership with BMT and the performance of supply chain becoming better. The study also revealed that the socio traditional value of the villagers coloured the relationship between farmers and their product buyers.

Abstract

The first aim of this research is to analyze the effect of social economic characteristics and communication behavior of the farmer on the probability of adopter category differences and on the preference of source of information. The second aim is to analyze the effect of adopter category on the preference of source of information. This research has been conducted in the broiler farm at Karanganyar, Sragen, and Boyolali Central Java by using research based method of descriptive analysis. The result of the research shows that there are differences in social economic characteristics and communication behavior of the farmer between early and late adopter categories; they are age (p0.01), formal education level (p0.01), cosmopoliteness level (p0.01), and farming experience (p0.05). The result of logistic binominal regression test on social economic characteristics shows that age and formal education level influence the difference of adopter category significantly (p0.05). The characteristics of farmers haveeffect on the preferences of personal and non personal information source, namely age, formal education level, and cosmopoliteness level, which have significant effect (p0.05). Additionally, the result shows that the adopter category has very significant effect (p0.01) on the preference of information source. The conclusion of the research is that the younger farmers, higher formal education level, longer experience, and higher level of active searching information seemed to have higher probability to become the early adopter. The farmers have higher preference on non personal information source.
