Abstract

Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is an inflammation of the soft tissues of the mouth characterized by recurrent ulcers in the absence of other underlying diseases. Pain and discomfort in the area around the ulcer can be caused by mastication, or during speech. The characteristics of RAS are in the form of recurrent ulcers in the oral cavity with a round or oval shape and edges surrounded by erythema with a gray-yellow base of the lesion. RAS occurs starting at a young age, namely children and puberty, and can occur in adults. RAS is clinically divided into 3 types, namely major, minor, and herpetiform. A 21-year-old female patient came to the RSGM Universitas Jember with complaints of stomatitis in the mouth. Canker sores recur at least 1 year 3-5 times, and usually heal on their own in about 10 days. Intra-oral examination of the lower and lateral labial mucosa of the right tongue found ulcers, round, 2-3mm in diameter, white center, erythematous edges, clear boundaries. Based on the examination, the patient was diagnosed with Minor Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis with a predisposition to psychological stress. The patient was given topical anti-inflammatory aloe vera therapy with multivitamin becomzet (vitamin B complex, A, C, E, and Zinc). The patient showed a positive response to the therapy.

Abstract

Tobacco is one of the abundant biomass resources, especially in Jember Regency. Tobacco stalk has potential as a raw material for bioethanol and has more economic value than just being used as firewood. One of the new renewable energy that comes from biomass is biofuel. The currently developed biofuels are biodiesel and bioethanol. Compared to fuel oil, bioethanol's advantages include having a high octane number (106-110), increasing combustion efficiency, and reducing pollutant emissions. Besides being used to fulfill energy needs, bioethanol can also be used as a raw material in the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and various alcohol derivatives industries. The Covid-19 pandemic has also made the need for ethanol increase. The scarcity of hand sanitizer products has made the price soar. The raw material for the hand sanitizer is ethanol, so the need for ethanol also increases. Bioethanol production, in general, has a 4-step process. The processes are pretreatment, hydrolysis, fermentation, and distillation. This study focused on the fermentation process with the aim of knowing the effect of microorganism nutrition on the concentration of bioethanol from tobacco stalks. Fermentation is done with the yeast Saccharomyces Cerevisiae. The addition of nutrients in the fermentation process greatly affects the concentration of ethanol that will be produced. The addition of optimal nutrients in this study was shown in the addition of 1.3% of the total initial volume of the sample or 0.325gram with a concentration result of 23.9%. Abstract

The act of removing a tooth from the alveolar bone socket is known as tooth extraction. Tooth extraction causes inflammation around the extraction area. Inflammation after tooth extraction will result in an increase in lymphocyte cells. This increase in the number of lymphocytes is too high due to continued inflammation can cause tissue damage around the socket. Cocoa beans contain chemical compounds that have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that can help the post-extraction inflammation process so that wound healing is faster. Objective: to analyze the mechanism of cocoa bean extract (Theobroma cacao, L) on the decrease in the number of lymphocytes in the socket after tooth extraction of male Wistar rats. Methods: including laboratory experimental research with the post-test control group design. The results of the One-way Anova test showed that the number of lymphocytes decreased in all groups with a significant difference (p<0.05). LSD post hoc test results showed that the overall group was significantly different. Results and Conclusions: 8% cocoa bean extract gel (Theobroma Cacao, L) had an effect on reducing the number of lymphocyte cells in the socket after tooth extraction of male wistar rats compared to those not treated. Keywords: Cocoa, lymphocyte, tooth extraction.

Abstract

Most of the fruit pickers still use a simple way to release the fruit from the stem, namely using a hook or pole. Picking in this way takes a long time, because often releasing the fruit with the end of the hook needs to be done several times until the fruit falls. In the type of fruit with hard stalks, the method that can be used to pick the fruit without any damage is by cutting. To do the picking on the fruit with small twigs, it is necessary to use a cutting method that does not cause swings. The most suitable picking mechanism for such conditions is shearing. The right time for harvesting usually lasts only a short time. If the fruit is not harvested in time, the quality will decline rapidly. The purpose of this research is to design a fruit picker with a cutting knife that is driven by a motor using a 12 Volt battery. From several choices of cutting methods, the selected cutting mechanism is by shearing. To obtain the shearing movement, the actuator part of the automatic car door lock is used. The voltage source is a 12 V battery. In functional testing the tool has been able to function as expected. In the performance test, a very good cutting speed was obtained, which was 0.12 seconds per cutting. The tool is also able to cut the stalks of kenitu, oranges and mangoes satisfactorily. In addition, the battery capacity is able to cut up to 2000 more stalks on a single charge. However, the actual picking test shows that the transfer efficiency from fruit to fruit is very low.
