Jurnal Pendidikan Agama Islam (Journal of Islamic Education Studies) (print-ISSN: 2089-1946 & Electronic-ISSN: 2527-4511) is a peer-reviewed journal published by Islamic Education Teacher Training Program of UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. The journal issues academic manuscripts on Islamic Education Teaching and Islamic Education Studies in either Indonesian or international contexts with multidisciplinary perspective: particularly within scholarly tradition of classical Islam, Educational Studies, and other social sciences. The manuscripts are published in Bahasa Indonesia, English, and Arabic with abstract in both Bahasa Indonesia and in English. This is an open-access journal so that all parties are allowed to read, to download, to copy, to distribute, to print, or to link some or all parts of articles without any charge and without prior permission from either authors or journal editorial team. All articles in this journal have Document Object Identifier (DOI) number.

Abstract

This paper attempts to unravel the important role of the Madrasah Diniyah under Darussalam Islamic Boarding School Keputih within the 10 November Institute of Technology Surabaya (ITS) environment with transnational Islamic movement. The organizers are fully aware of the importance of disseminating moderate Islamic values and positioning Madrasah Diniyah as mediation structure to develop tolerance ​​and to counter the formalization of khilafah within the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia. The santri did not only study a collection of kitab based upon their levels, but also explore the great ideas of moderate Islam in the country. The enrichment process was managed by reflecting students' knowledge with WIKI ASWAJA and ASWAJA NU websites, managed under PWNU Aswaja Study Center in East Java. Recent issues, such as the Caliphate and Islam Nusantara on the website are discussed with the bandongan-muhawarah method by involving all santri. The success of the Madrasah Diniyah Takmiliyah in the pesantren Darussalam as a mediating structure was marked by its ability to develop counter-discourse towards transnational Islamic movements in campus environment.

Abstract

The axiological approach in Islamic education is a discourse that is still very important and relevant for now. The whole process of Islamic education, both of which involve aspects of curriculum, learning, education personnel, student affairs, institutional management, and so on, has the same estuary or downstream, which supports axiological achievement in Islamic education. Then, it is also interesting to discuss, the interrelationships between the goals of Islamic and National education are already aligned or even overlapping. It is hoped that in the presentation this study can clearly convey the points on the objectives of Islamic education. So, it has an applicable educational axiology for Islamic education nationally. The method used by researchers is library research, which uses concepts that exist in the literature with research. The result, the philosophy of Islamic education in the country still has important foundations in presenting ideals as part of the theory of knowledge. In addition, there are still educational objectives that are difficult to achieve or not yet applicable. So it can be concluded that the authors of the philosophy of Islamic education have had academic awareness, the theory of purpose must be formulated before formulating the objectives of Islamic education from the perspective of philosophical studies. Unfortunately, that awareness cannot be realized by them, and cannot be used as a guide to formulate a systematic and comprehensive goal of Islamic education.

Abstract

This article dscribes the importance of Indonesian Islam Reasoning Program (PPII) as the supplement of Islamic Education (PAI) materials bringing peace for the universe and counter radicalism movement in UIN Sunan Ampel Surabaya. Data was collected through observation, intervoews, and documentation. Findings shows that PPII established Islamic foundation based upon contextual Islamic theology, Sufism expression, contextual Islamic law, and genealogy of Islamic civilization in Indonesia. Therefore, peace Islamic attitudes, highest endeavor, and Islamic reasoning can be internalized into disciplines that students take. Observing more visible radical Islamic movement in public sphere, PPII takes important position in countering radicalism. Materials in PPII are synergic to Islamic Education materials with rational-empirical reasoning, which is epistemologically aligned with Burhani approach.

Abstract

This article focuses upon the comparison between the Burhani and the 2013 Curriculum scientific approaches in improving high order thinking skills in Fiqh subjects. Two different group of 18 five-grade students of MI Haji Hasyim Babat Jerawat Pakal Surabaya are involved for each approaches within the 2016/2017 academic year. The result shows that both Burhani’s and 2013 Curriculum’s scientific approaches are able to increase high-order thinking skills in terms of collecting information, finding links, rearranging, and developing it to answer questions. Based upon thinking-skill mean, group with 2013 Curriculum scientific approach treatment gains higher achievement that that of with Burhani’s, with 82.66:72.13. This result heightens the theory of 2013 Curriculum’s relevance for all school subjects, including Islamic Education.

Abstract

This article explores perspectives of peasant community in Pamekasan Regency Madura regarding Islamic education as constructed reality. The peasants consider the obligatory of pursuing such education for their children’s Islamic morality in their future. They put first priority in the Islamic education rather than hustling about what profession their children are going to have. This indicates that social construction in a community has uniqueness for the development of child education in every phase. Findings show that spiritual-based parenting, environment positive attitude, and community acceptance to the children develop concept of self, which has implication to the development of children Islamic morality.

Abstract

This paperwork analyzes innovation in education by High Vocational School (SMK) under pesantren institution in Banyuwangi Regency. Within the framework of cultural and micro poliotics of school theory, power (politics) is able to optimize innovation planning rather than it is within approaches of cultural, striuctural, or rationale of institutional leaders. Innovation in terms of quality of vocational education is highly supported by professional teachers and their experience beackground in education. Further, in terms of student outcomes and public relations with workplaces, leadership and interrelation of kiai’s power and pesantren become crusial factor enhancing edeucational innovation in vocational school under pesantren.

Abstract

Until 2016, National Board for Terrorism Prevention (BNPT) indicates that Indonesian pesantren has not been yet spotless from radicalism. On the other hand, discourse contestation in virtual world requires santri and pesantren alumni to convey peaceful messages in an attempt to balance radical discourses. Through this article, the author offers a hybrid worldview, a perspective and curriculum revolution of moderate that encourages santri to preserve the tradition of obedience to kiai. This perspective also encourages students to focus on developing critical reasoning, to have paradigmatic reasoning competencies that are adaptive to the dynamics of current period and tolerant to differences, to be rational and autonomous, and to be selective towards the literature used by of pesantren students. This article recommends coding skills with the R language programming and big data management for santri. This aims to accelerate the growth of the moderate internet portal creators in order to dominate online discourse.

Abstract

This study aims to develop ethics in utilizing social media in the style of Nahdlatul Ulama within Scientific Approach in the 2013 National Curriculum. Currently, hoax massively spreads in cyberspace, in which students become some parts of it. Hence, this research is important so that students are able to be more critical in responding to circulated information. This study employs of qualitative research with content analysis approach. Results show that internalization of tabayun principle encourages students not apological and always critical towards information. In addition, this encourages them to extract information which enhances their literacy. The principle of honesty and the usefulness of information also encourage students to be able to process information and communicate the investigation results objectively. In addition, ethics in verbal communication becomes the foundation for students to deliver information in a peaceful way.

Abstract

This study aims to reveal the policies of European countries, such as the Netherlands, Britain, Germany, France and Sweden, towards Islamic schools. The focus of the study includes three interrelated themes, namely policies on education funding, Islamic Religious Education (IRE) curriculum, and empowerment of IRE teachers. Data from relevant literature were collected and analyzed using an analytical-comparative approach. The main findings of this study are as follows. First, with regard to funding, the Netherlands and Sweden fund all Islamic schools; Britain and France only fund Islamic schools that follow national education regulations; and Germany funds only IRE teacher salaries. Second, for the curriculum policy, Germany and the UK include IRE in public schools; The Netherlands and Sweden leave the IRE curriculum to each Islamic school; while France integrates IRE into other subjects in public schools. Third, with regard to teachers, the Netherlands requires IRE teachers to undertake certified teacher training at universities; England and Sweden require that they take postgraduate-level education courses; France requires that they take courses containing religious topics; and Germany requires them to take Islamic theology courses.

Abstract

This research focus upon the development of learning materials in History of Islamic Civilization (SKI) Subject for reading literacy in Bahasa Indonesia subject. The research emphasizes upon the implementation of learning strategy. As the foundation, the research process follows guidelines of School Literacy Program (GLS) and Program for International Student Assessment (PISA) standard of achievement. By the two standards, the researcher does not only follow school literacy development framework but also measuring students’ achievement under internationally recognized standards. Within research and development framework of Borg and Gall, researcher selected an Islamic school that has attempted to integrate literacy program into other subjects but was yet unsuccessfully improve their students’ literacy level. As the end product of this research, learning materials and instructions have been designed in a way of reading literacy program as well as deepening students’ comprehension towards related school subject.
