Abstract

This article discusses two education concepts from sociological point of view, namely official knowledge as the product of critical pedagogy experts and the concept of intercultural education that is pinned to solve the problem of identity in educational environment. This article makes Jayapura a case example where the two concepts can be implemented both theoretically and practically. With a phenomenological approach in the field, this study found that the concept of "Official Knowledge" which was often framed as resistance to government power could be shifted to an "acceptance attitude" to resolve conflicting identity conflicts in society. The condition is that the state must have power to regulate the knowledge and awareness of the facts of diversity in Indonesia. The intercultural approach can derive diversity through education that promotes interaction, communication, and the formation of an attitude of mutual understanding and acceptance between one individual and another, between social reality and knowledge in educational institutions, and between different religious groups.

Abstract

This article reflects the study of marketing of education at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Bali Bina Insani (BBI). Located in a Muslim minority area, this institution implements marketing strategy that has implications in people's acceptance towards the Islamic educational institution. This study explores the MTs BBI strategy in marketing its institution through smooth but structured promotion. The success of the BBI institution is marked by the attitude of community acceptance that supports the existence of BBI through collective actions. As a managerial action in managing religious differences within surrounding community, the BBI academic community is required to be open and accommodating towards differences. This basic culture together with professional and transparent management becomes the main value in the marketing of institutions through digital media.

Abstract

This article discusses the relevance and reevaluation of pesantren character education to the needs of character values in modern society. This article uses a descriptive qualitative analysis of the object of discussion by utilizing reference sources on related themes. This article argues that the values on pesantren education is a prototype of character education that is still relevant to the needs of the community and, hence, can be adopted for the national leadership regeneration. The survival and the existence of salaf and khalaf pesantren that are still needed by the community indicates the relevance of pesantren-style character education. However, this article also gives a thick note that pesantren character education does not guarantee the objectivation process and the implementation of character values by its alumni in real life in society. This simply because the relationship between character education in pesantren and the objectivation and implementation of character values by pesantren alumni in the community is not a linear, verbatim and axiomatic relationship. Therefore, this article also offers a solution so that the education of character values in pesantren must proceed side by side with the capacitation process of internal defense mechanisms and external supervision among santri.

Abstract

This research aims to comprehend and discover the construction of actiontowards LGBT students at a university in Malang. Next, this research focuses upon the accommodative-persuasive attitude, which is influenced by humanism, of the academic community towards LGBT students. For that reason, this study employs phenomenological approach to acquire substantive meaning within the dynamics of LGBT students. This study suggests that LGBT is formed not only form naturally (essentialism), but also through social environment (social constructionism). Apart from the two major views upon how LGBT is developed, the academic communities do not legitimize any treatments against LGBT students under rationale that LGBT community is less than God’s creation. The academic communities have been attempting to “realign” the LGBT students to their nature. They believe that LGBT students have the fundamental rights as God’s creation (as in line with other human being) and those rights must get attention from all elements of academic communities.

Abstract

Education is one of the instruments in realizing family resilience in supporting national development. For the Madurese community in general, religious education has very strong roots. This research was conducted in order to identify the level of family resilience through religious education, which functions as a measurable and structured aspect of family welfare for salt farmers. This qualitative research uses interviews, observation and documentation as data collection instruments. The results showed that the level of family resilience from the economic, social and cultural side shows the Resistance index for the whole family, on the other hand, for single families it shows the index of less resistance, this also has an impact on the sustainability of Islamic religious education for children in salt farmer families; namely family expectations, availability of sources and internalization of religious values in the life of whole families and single families. For nuclear families, the fulfillment of the variable of family resilience development has a role in supporting the continuity of religious education for children, such as the facilities and attention that leads to the emergence of children's habits within the scope of salt farming families.

Abstract

The influence of hedonistic culture has led to a character crisis in various societies in the archipelago. Local wisdom with plurality, tolerance, and mutual cooperation, seems to be the anti-thesis of a hedonistic life. From here, various thoughts emerge about the importance of fostering character education based on local wisdom in Islamic education institutions. With an ethnographic approach, this study explores the application of character building efforts in madrasas in Sambas which are based on local cultural elements. The results showed that the use of 'Teluk belanga' and kurung clothes contributed to the formation of Islamic behavior, social life, and respect for local culture.

Abstract

This article reexamines and rediscusses the importance of the dimensions of Sufism virtues as the foundational spirit of Indonesian Islamic education today amidst its social dynamics. This article is based on participatory research on psudo-Sufism, namely the Shalawat Adlimiyah located in districts of Bojonegoro and Pasuruan. Findings show that the Sufism dimension is effective in reducing moral decadence and strengthening character education. The teacher-student relationship as the core of Sufism teachings is the entry point as well as a capital for the processes of shaping personality and morality, both of which are the essential in character education. This practice has occurred for hundreds of years in the tradition of Sufism education and is still ongoing today. One of its representations is through Sufism education in the circles of Shalawat Adlimiyah. This paper suggests that mainstreaming Sufism values into the practice of Islamic education is urgently needed in addressing the problems of contemporary Indonesian Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the impact of a scientific approach on students' spiritual attitudes. Through the constructivism paradigm combined with a phenomenological approach, this study involved 19 students. In-depth interviews are used as the main data collection technique while observation and documentation as secondary techniques as well as data validation. The analysis phase is carried out with four stages namely description of the phenomenon, horizonalization, cluster of meaning, essence description. This study reveals that a scientific approach can provide three impacts on students' spiritual attitudes, namely the impact on cognitive, affective, and psychomotor spiritual attitudes. Spiritual attitudes found in the research act as driving forces for human behavior. The findings of this study develop the interaction of character components. The components of a spiritual attitude are interactions not determinants. This means that the components of spiritual attitude only correlate with each other and these components will not be able to validly predict behavior.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the ideas of one prominent Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) figure, the leader of Pesantren Sabilurrosyad Malang named KH Marzuki Mustamar, about efforts to counteract the growth of radicalism in pesantren. Through the analysis of the interview, this study found that the most important thing in preventing the growth of radicalism in pesantren is the ability of the teacher or Kyai to contextualize the values of Islamic teachings with the real context of life in the learning process. Through this ability, the students will know and understand that Islamic teachings are truly relevant to life and are able to bring benefits to all mankind. In this case, the teacher or Kyai can do in several ways: First, selecting materials or books that have moderate views based on ahlussunnah school, and reinterpreting the materials or books that are not in accordance with the Indonesian context. Second, instilling the values of monotheism and human values in the students in a balanced manner. Third, providing examples oftolerant behavior in society. Fourth, accustoming the students to be tolerant through direct practice to live in the community.

Abstract

The current development of society demonstrates openness in evaluating various aspects of life, including understanding towards religious matter. In another side, this fact turns into a challenge because some people, especially some Muslims, are still exclusive. Responding to the challenge, Islam as a set of universal principle should operate in providing solutions through its views upon the essence of multiculturalism. This paper examines theoretically the factual reality of multiculturalism in Indonesia, how Islam positions multiculturalism, and views for educational institutions in developing multiculturalism perspectives to grow inclusive attitudes in society. The results of the study show that the multiculturalism facts in Indonesia cannot be neglegted and must be maintained and developed by promoting tolerance and justice. In Islamic perspectives, multiculturalism is a fact that is often found in the al-Qur’an and Hadith as well as in the historical records of the Prophet’s life. Through educational channels, the perspective of multiculturalism can be disseminated to develop a society that respects the value and practice of the multiculturalism itself.
