Abstract

Copepods is a zooplankton which is common to be found in the seas and one of the primary food of fish larvae. Copepods believed to be one of the key of aquaculture development because it has higher nutritional value. One of the most researched copepods species is Acartia sp. because having shorter life cycle and the most easily found compared to other copepods species. However information about copepods growth still limited. The research of copepods species Acartia sp. growth was aimed to collect information about Acartia sp. body length and width so that it can known whether fish larvae mouth opening match with copepods body size. This research was done in March 2017 at Gondol Reseach Institute of Mariculture, Gondol, Bali. Acartia sp. sample was collected from mass culture pond’s outlet pipe as much as 250 mL with three repetitions so the total sample was 750 mL then around 1 mL was taken to be observed in the microscope dissecting set which equipped with micrometer at 64 times magnification for measurement process. Variable to be observed was Acartia sp. body length and width. From the research it was known Acartia sp. has four phase of life cycle which is egg, nauplii, copepodit, and adult. Acartia sp. eggs have a measurement around 0,04 mm to 0,05 mm, then nauplii sized around 0,069 mm to 0,182 mm, while copepodit sized around 0,363 mm to 0,584 mm, and the adults sized around 0,865 mm. Acartia sp. has a rapid population growth because one adult Acartia sp. can produce 16 eggs.

Abstract

Lily (Lilium longiflorum Thunb.) was known as ornamental plants, especially as cut flower. Lily varieties in Indonesia are still lacking and the price is quite expensive but demand of lily is increased steadily. The first step for successful plant breeding is understanding phenophysiology of the plants, in particular flowering phenology. The aim of this research is to provide information on flowering lily phenology, to be a basic knowledge in improving for planning plant breeding programs. In this research, plants were observed from bud initiation until fruit production (phase F0-F4). Additional morphologies observed such as: high plant, leaf shape and color, shape and type of root or bulb. Result shows that period of phase F0-F3 of sampled lily is 52 days. The plant height of lily is about 50-150 cm, has elongated single lancet leaf shape, green leaf, bulbs, and has fiberous root.

Abstract

The main objective of this research was to investigate the potential of Lactic Acid Bacterial isolates and their supernatants, isolated from yoghurt and kefir, to control the growth of A. flavus FNCC6109 in chicken feed concentrate. The experiments were conducted both In vitro and directly applied to chicken feed concentrate. The results showed that two Lactic Acid Bacterial were successfully isolated, identified and both showed initial potential to be developed as biocontrol of A. flavus FNCC6109. Only one best isolate (isolate I) was used in the further investigation. Percentage of growth reduction of A. flavus FNCC6109 in the chicken feed concentrate treated with 30%(v/v) of Lactobacillus sp. supernatant was 72% lower than control (chicken feed concentrate without addition of Lactobacillus sp. Abstract

Enam dari tujuh spesies penyu laut ditemukan di Indonesia dan tiga diantaranya melakukan proses peneluran di beberapa pantai di Bali, salah satunya adalah Penyu Lekang (Lepidochelys olivacea) yang masuk kedalam kategori terancam punah oleh IUCN. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari pengaruh perbedaan karaktertistik pasir pantai terhadap persentase penetasan telur Penyu Lekang pada media sarang semi alami. Keberhasilan penetasan pada sampel telur dilihat melalui variabel suhu pasir, suhu udara, kelembaban pasir, kelembaban udara, besar ukuran pasir, dan warna pasir. Persentase tertinggi dari keberhasilan penetasan sampel telur terjadi pada media penetasan pasir Pantai Pulau Serangan sebesar 97% dengan masa inkubasi 49 hari dan rentang suhu pasir berkisar antara 27,50o C, sampai 30,40o C. Sedangkan media pasir Pantai Saba dan Pantai Perancak memiliki persentase keberhasilan penetasan 87% dan 67% dengan masa inkubasi 46 hari. Perbedaan masa inkubasi tersebut dipengaruhi oleh variabel suhu pasir. Sementara perbedaan persentase keberhasilan penetasan dipengaruhi oleh perbedaan karakteristik pasir pada media penetasan. Dengan meningkatkan persentase keberhasilan penetasan yang tinggi, maka akan diperoleh tukik hidup yang lebih banyak untuk pemulihan populasi penyu dalam upaya untuk mendukung kegiatan konservasi penyu.

Abstract

This experiment was carried out to study the effect of offered fermented rice hull in ration supplemented with purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) leaf on lipid profile of duck meat. Seven treatment rations were used in a completely randomized design (CRD) consisted of control ration A (ration without containing rice hull and purple sweet potato leaf), ration B (ration containing 5% rice hull), ration C (ration containing 5% fermented rice hull and purple sweet potato leaf ), ration D (ration containing 10% rice hull), ration E (ration containing 10% fermented rice hull and purple sweet potato leaf), ration F (ration containing 15% rice hull),and ration G (ration containing 15% fermented rice hull and purple sweet potato leaf). Each treatment consisted of three replicates and each replicate consisted of five ducks. Variable observed in this study were feed consumption, protein, crude fiber and antioxidant consumption and lipid profile consisted cholesterol total, HDL, LDL and TGA. The results showed that feed, protein, crude fiber and antioxidant consumption on treatment A were 6414.10., 1027.70., 520.82 and 59,51g/head. Giving treatment B, C, D, E, F and G decrease feed consumption (P, < 0.05), but protein consumption was increase significantly (P <0.05) except for treatment B was not significant compared with treatment A. Giving treatments C, E and G were decrease crude fiber consumption (P<0.05). Crude fiber consumption in treatment B increase significantly (P < 0.05), but crude fiber consumption in treatment D and F were not significantly different (P>0.05) with control (A). Antioxidant consumption for treatments B, C, D, E, F and G were increase significantly (P<0,05) compared with A. Lipid profile of duck meat consisted of cholesterol total, HDL, LDL and TGA in treatment A were 75,84., 26,81., 30,04 and 100,87 mg/100g. Offered treatment B, C, E, F and G significantly decrease cholesterol total (P<0.05), but treatment D was not significantly different (P>0.05) with treatment A . While on HDL and TGA for all treatment were not significantly different (P>0.05) except TGA for treatment C was increase significantly (P<0.05), compared treatment A. Offered treatment C, E and G were significantly decease LDL of duck meat, but treatment B, D and F were not significantly different (P<0.05) with treatment A. Its can be concluded that offered fermented rice hull in ration supplemented with purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas L.) leaf improve lipid profile of duck meat.

Abstract

Banana plants have been used as parts of ritualism by Hindu’S people in Bali nevertheles these plants are often infected by fungal pathogens. Fusarium sp is one of the most common fungal pathogen infecting these plants. Commonly to release this pathogen the usage synthetic fungicides. To reduce the use of these synthetic fungicides, alternative method such as using natural compound of fungicides has been researched. The main objective of this research was to investigate the compounds of tembelekan leaf extract to control the growth of F. solani (Mart.) Sacc, the causative agent of stem wilt and root rot in kapok banana by using GC-MS. The result of identification using GC-MS identified that there are four compounds is 2,2,4-Trimethyl-1,3-pentanediol diisobutyrate, Hexadecanoic acid, Terephthali acid, and Squalene.

Abstract

Recently, climate change is the one of most important environmental issue. Climate variability can be recorded by tree growing through the growth ring. Growth ring formed by cambial activity were examined in wood anatomy. In Sumatra, there are three ecotypes Pinus merkusii, namely ecotypes Kerinci, Tapanuli, and Aceh which can be distinguished morphologically. This study aims to knowing the wood anatomical characteristics of the three ecotypes and determine the potential as climate indicator. This study was conducted in October 2014 until June 2015. Sample of Kerinci ecotype was collected in Kerinci Seblat National Park, Tapanuli ecotype in Dolok Sibualbuali Natural Reserve and Aceh ecotype in Gunung Leuser National Park on a height of 130 cm using increment borer and cut on the main stem 5×5 cm for anatomical sample. Results from this study indicate that ecotype Kerinci and Tapanuli showed earlywood and latewood boundary exposing the clear growth ring, whereas in Aceh ecotype unclear. Tapanuli ecotype have the thickest tracheid diameter than ecotype Kerinci and Aceh. Ecotypes of Kerinci, Tapanuli, and Aceh has homoceluler and uniseriate ray where Aceh ecotype have the longest ray. Furthermore, Kerinci and Tapanuli ecotype have potential as climate indicator eventhough showed negative correlation, that Tapanuli ecotype show the best result and recommended in dendrochronology study.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the temperature and storage time of the exact vitamin C content of red and white dragon fruit and the difference of vitamin C. The samples were taken from the plantation land in Ubud Andong Highway, Petulu, Gianyar Regency. Treated for 10 and 30 days with 2, 10, 20 and 300C temperature treatment with five repetitions using Completely Randomized Design Factorial pattern. Data obtained statistically using ANOVA (Analysis of Variance). The highest vitamin C content in red dragon fruit is 29.61 mg/ 100g temperature 100C for 10 days and the lowest is in 30 days storage with temperature 300C that is equal to 22,09 mg/ 100g. While the white dragon fruit content of vitamin C highest contained in storage with a temperature of 20C is 22.69 mg/ 100g with maximum storage of 10 days and the lowest at a temperature of 300C is 17.37 mg/ 100g.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to look at the effect of sugar dose, black tea extract dose, interaction of sugar and black tea exstract dose on the fermentation and production of nata de coco. Completely Randomized Design (CRD) in Factorial was used in this experiment with sixteen treatments and two replications. The first factor was the doses of sugar and the second factor was doses of black tea extract. The results of this study showed that the doses of sugar and addition of black tea extract was able to increase the production of nata de coco. The best dose of sugar in 50 g/ l, the best dose of black tea extract in 8 g/ l. The interaction of sugar dose and black tea extract dose contained in the treatment a1b2 the dose of sugar 50 g/l and black tea extract 8 g/l with an average weight of 23,43 g nata de coco. The benefits of this research is to increase production and quality of nata for the nata de coco’s industry.

Abstract

Pineapple peel in animal feed might contain bromelain enzyme which could distrupt pregnancy in animal laboratory. This experiment used a complete randomized design with 16 pregnant rats which were divided into four treatment groups. The treatments are feed containing 0 (K); 4,35 (P1); 8,70 (P2); and 13,05 (P3) g/rat/day of pineapple peel that were given during pregnancy. Parameters of morphological fetus observed were alive fetuses, weight, length, and fetal abnormalities and skeleton development i.e. axial skeleton (costal, sternebral, and vertebral bones) and appendicular skeleton (vertebra caudal, metacarpal and metatarsal bones). Data were analyzed by SPSS version 22, using One Way Anova or Kruskal Wallis. The result showed that fetuses from pregnant rats which administered with feed containing pineapple peel showed teratogenic effect. Fetal morphological abnormalities of the fetus is subcutaneous hemorrhage in were found at dose of 8,70 (P2) and dose of 13,05 (P3) g/rat/day. Feed containing pineapple peel could inhibit ossification of apendicular skeleton in vertebra caudal, metacarpal, and metatarsal.
