Abstract

This research aims to explore the relationship between the use of the song ‘”Die with a Smile” by Bruno Mars and the improvement of pronunciation skills of first semester students in the English Education Department Universitas Islam Madura. The two variables in this research are the use of the song “Die with a Smile” as the independent variable (X) and the improvement of pronunciation skills as the dependent variable (Y). Using quantitative methods and Pearson correlation analysis, this research involved twenty-five students as samples, with data collected through tests and questionnaires. The results of the analysis showed that the correlation value was 0.588, which indicated a positive relationship with a moderate level correlation between the use of songs and students pronunciation ability. In addition, the significance value (Sig. 2-tailed) of 0.002 (p<0.05), which is smaller than 0.05, proves that the relationship is statistically significant indicating that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. Thus, the more often students use songs as a learning media, the better their pronunciation ability. However, because the correlation found was not entirely strong, this research recommends that the song learning method be combined with other approaches, such as direct phonetic exercises or the use of learning technology.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of Suno AI, an artificial intelligence-based English song learning tool, in enhancing vocabulary mastery among eighth-grade students at a junior high school in Jepara. The background of the research stems from the challenges students face in acquiring vocabulary using conventional methods. The objective of this study is to determine whether Suno AI can significantly improve students’ vocabulary acquisition. A quasi-experimental research design was employed, with an experimental class receiving instruction using Suno AI and a control class following traditional vocabulary learning methods. Pre-test and post-test data were collected and analyzed using statistical methods, including the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality, the Levene test for homogeneity, and a paired-sample T-test to assess the effectiveness of the intervention. The findings indicate a significant improvement in the vocabulary mastery of students in the experimental class compared to the control class, demonstrating that AI-powered learning tools can enhance engagement and retention. This research contributes to educational technology by highlighting the potential of AI applications in language learning, paving the way for more interactive and effective vocabulary instruction.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of sticky note media and clustering approaches in the teaching of writing recount texts at SMAN 3 Pamekasan. When producing recount texts, many students struggle with concept organization and consistency. In order to overcome these obstacles, the instructor used sticky notes in conjunction with the clustering strategy to help the students write better. One English instructor at SMAN 3 Pamekasan was the subject of this qualitative case study, and information was gathered via documentation, semi-structured interviews, and observation. An interactive model that included data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing was used to examine the data. According to the results, students’ creativity and organizational skills were greatly enhanced by the clustering technique using sticky notes. Sticky notes' adaptability and visual format made it easier for pupils to organize and link their ideas. The teachers thought well of the approach, observing a rise in student engagement and motivation. Modeling and guided practice helped to overcome the initial bewilderment of the students and the restricted availability of materials. The study comes to the conclusion that this method supports critical thinking and active involvement in addition to improving students' writing skills, which is in line with curriculum objectives.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to explore the differences in students' perceptions of grammar learning in online and offline classes at Kresna Kampung Inggris, as well as how these perceptions can potentially be utilized to optimize learning methods. 60 respondents-30 from the online class and 30 from the offline class-who had completed the Grammar 1 program participated in the descriptive-comparative quantitative methodology. A Likert scale questionnaire was adopted to collect data on six perception indicators, including course structure and organization, student interaction, instructor presence, student engagement, student satisfaction, and perceived learning. All of the indicators in the online class were classified as very positive, according to the results of the descriptive statistical analysis, whereas the offline class acquired positive categories for five indicators and very positive for the instructor presence indicator. As indicated by the results of the normality (Kolmogorov-Smirnov) and homogeneity (Levene's Test) tests, the data satisfied the requirements of parametric statistics. The Independent Sample t-test revealed a substantial distinction in students' perceptions of online and offline grammar classes, hence the alternative hypothesis (H1) was confirmed and the null hypothesis (H0) was disregarded. This result validates the unique characteristics of both methods that can be fully maximized. Instead than focusing on identifying the most appropriate method, this study aims to enhance the less successful aspects of each method while integrating its strengths. Therefore, the findings of this study argue for a more flexible grammar learning technique that is attentive to students' needs and varied learning environments.

Abstract

Taglines are widely used in environmental media campaigns and appear in various formats such as posters, flyers, and tote bags. Despite their prevalence in Indonesia, public awareness of environmental protection remains limited. This study investigates the use of English in environmental campaign taglines, focusing on how these taglines are perceived by the public and their effectiveness in influencing environmentally conscious behavior. Employing a qualitative research approach, data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 15 participants across three public locations. Thematic analysis revealed that participants’ perceptions of English-language environmental taglines are shaped by emotional connection, cultural relevance, and language accessibility. English is often appreciated for its clarity, simplicity, and global resonance, but local languages are perceived to offer stronger emotional and cultural connections. Most participants found that English taglines increased awareness, and in some cases motivated behavioral changes, such as reducing plastic use. However, linguistic barriers and cultural disconnect were also noted, particularly among individuals less familiar with English. These findings suggest that while English taglines can effectively promote environmental awareness, their success depends on balancing global appeal with cultural and linguistic sensitivity to local audiences.

Abstract

Multimodal E-Book is a learning media that can be used in learning writing descriptive text. This research aims to explores the students’ perception of using multimodal E-Book media for learning writing descriptive text. This research used narrative inquiry research design. The subjects in this research is the eight grade students of MTs Tarbiyatus Shibyan Wal Banat which consisting of 19 students with 10 students selected to interviewed. The data were collected through observation, interview and documentation. Then, analyzed used descriptive qualitative. The result showed that students generally have positive perception of multimodal E-Book, as it make learning more engaging, interesting and facilitate a better understanding of the material compared to the conventional learning method. Additionally, the advantages include improved students understanding, increased enthusiasm for learning, enhanced vocabulary, and better pronounciation skills. However, challenges were also identified, such as difficulties using media independently at school due to limited of digital access at school. Additionally, students struggled in understanding the contents of multimodal E-Book that was entirely in English without Indonesian translation. Apart form that the overall impact remains positive, indicating that multimodal E-Book are effective strategy to support learning writing descriptive text.

Abstract

This study explored students' perceptions of the effectiveness of the Tandem app in improving their English language proficiency. The results show that the use of Tandem significantly improves students' confidence, fluency and adaptability in cross-cultural communication. Direct interaction with native speakers helps students overcome their fear of making mistakes, allowing them to think and respond more naturally in English. In addition, exposure to different accents and communication styles broadens their linguistic understanding. However, challenges remain, including limited structured feedback from native speakers and technical limitations such as unstable Internet connections. Many students expressed the need for explicit grammar correction and a more structured learning environment to complement the informal learning environment of this app. Therefore, while Tandem proves to be an effective tool for language learning, its integration into formal education, especially teacher-led instruction, will optimise learning outcomes. This research highlights the potential of technology-assisted language learning, while emphasising the importance of structured feedback and pedagogical support.

Abstract

This quasi-experimental study examined the effectiveness of Project-Based Learning (PBL) in developing Grade VII students' skimming skills for descriptive text comprehension at SMPN 18 Bandung over four weeks. A total of 62 students participated in the study, divided equally into an experimental group (n=31) and a control group (n=31). Both groups were assessed using pre-test and post-test instruments. The experimental group, which received instruction through the PBL approach, showed a statistically significant improvement in their reading comprehension scores—from a pre-test average of 27.387 to a post-test average of 40.354 (gain = 12.967). In contrast, the control group, which received conventional instruction, improved from 25.354 to 36.387 (gain = 11.032). The results indicate that the PBL approach is more effective than traditional methods in enhancing students’ skimming skills and comprehension of descriptive texts. It is suggested that English teachers consider implementing Project-Based Learning as an alternative instructional strategy to improve reading comprehension and overall academic achievement.

Abstract

This study addressed the persistent challenge in English language teaching where students have theoretical knowledge of grammar but struggle to apply it in practical communication. The research aimed to analyse the effectiveness of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) in improving the grammar skills of first-year English Education students at IAIN Parepare. Using a quantitative pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach, the study involved 16 first-year students selected through purposive sampling. The intervention consisted of five TBLT sessions structured around a three-phase framework (pre-task, task cycle, language focus) targeting five grammatical tenses (Simple Present, Present Continuous, Simple Past, Simple Future and Present Perfect). Data were collected via structured oral interviews before and after the intervention, with responses scored using a five-point grammatical accuracy rubric. Results showed a statistically significant improvement in students' grammatical accuracy, with mean scores increasing from 46.50 (Average category) to 66.75 (Good category), representing a 43.5% improvement (p < 0.05). Analysis of individual tenses showed that tenses commonly used in everyday communication (Simple Present, Present Continuous) showed greater improvement (44.1% and 43.4% respectively) than more complex tenses such as Present Perfect (39.7%). The results suggest that TBLT effectively bridges the gap between declarative and procedural grammar knowledge by providing authentic communicative contexts for grammar practice, although complex grammatical structures may require extended practice and additional form-focused instruction for mastery.

Abstract

This study intends to examine how junior high school students see the use of the Lola Speak application to enhance their English speaking abilities. Students' subjective experiences were investigated using a qualitative approach and a case study methodology. Semi-structured interviews and questionnaires were used to gather information from 24 first-graders at a Medan junior high school. Ten closed-ended statements that assessed the application's usefulness, simplicity of use, and effect on students' confidence in their ability to speak English made up the questionnaire. The majority of pupils gave the application positive feedback, according to the data. Up to 66.7% of students concurred that the application's speaking practice feature enhanced their ability to communicate, and 58.3% said that using it increased their confidence when speaking English. The application was also thought to be engaging, user-friendly, and capable of boosting motivation for learning. Some students, however, claimed that in order to better accommodate different learning styles, more features were required and that there were technical limitations. The study's findings emphasize how critical it is to create application-based learning tools that are more flexible and sensitive to user requirements.
