Abstract

Political leadership in Sundanese civilisation has existed since the 15th century. Although the mechanics of power transition have evolved ideologically, Tri Tangtu Di Bumi, a philosophical ideal of leadership, is still embedded in Sundanese society's social structure. This knowledge has evolved from the ancient (Sunda Wiwitan) Hindu age to Islam. This study investigates Tri Tangtu di Bumi as a manifestation of Sundanese political philosophy. The method used in this study is a philosophical examination of Sundanese society's triumvirate notions. According to the research findings, Tri Tangtu di Bumi is identical to Trias Politica. This leadership style delegates political power and legitimacy to three individuals: Prabu, Rama, and Resi. Prabu symbolises the government and Rama represents people's voices. Meanwhile, Resi mostly serves as a mediator and judge. Tri Tangtu's spirit can still be found in the lives of the Baduy, Banten, Kampung Naga, Tasikmalaya, and Ciptagelar tribes of Sukabumi today.

Abstract

Al-Ghazali stated that Kalam is the foundation (mabadi) of Islamic sciences. Does it mean the mother of Islamic sciences? It must be clarified because it is the basis for the development of Islamic sciences. Therefore, the researcher formulated questions about the meaning and the nature of philosophy as the mother of Islamic sciences from al-Ghazali's perspectivei. This study uses philosophy as the method, and its character is rational, critical, reflective, and argumentative. Al-Ghazali's books on philosophy and logic are the data sources analyzed through the discourse analysis method. It shows that al-Ghazali criticized philosophy—as a product of thought—by using philosophy—in the sense of process—as the tool. This study found the essence of philosophy is a process that plays a role in criticizing beliefs (naqd al-i'tiqad). Philosophers do physical reflection (tabi'iyyah), mathematical reflection (riyadah), and metaphysical reflection (ilahiyyah) that produce three-level abstraction. At the highest level, the result of Kalam is an abstraction toward a pure metaphysical realm. Philosophy is just an abstraction of natural and social reality, which is not purely metaphysical. Al-Ghazali did not reduce philosophy to Kalam but placed it as the mother of the rational sciences, besides kalam that has its realm, namely pure metaphysical reality. Finally, Kalam led to the discovery of the basic assumptions of sciences, theoretical frameworks, and paradigms that are the foundation of Islamic sciences. This research concludes that the meaning of Kalam as a foundation (mabadi) is the mother of Islamic sciences, because Kalam played a role in forming basic assumptions, paradigms, and theoretical frameworks of Islamic sciences.

Abstract

The concept of Islamization of knowledge according to Ismail Raji al-Faruqi using the perspective of Immanuel Kant's criticism. Al-Faruqi is a figure who plays an important role in introducing the idea of Islamization of knowledge, an effort to reconstruct and reinterpret scientific disciplines based on Islamic principles. This article is a library research with a qualitative approach, descriptive critical analysis related to al-Faruqi concept of the Islamization of knowledge analyzed through Immanuel Kant's critical approach, especially related to rationality, ethics, and intellectual freedom. This analysis aims to see how these two thoughts can complement each other or even clash in an effort to combine religion and science. Kant's critical analysis of the concept of the Islamization of knowledge initiated by al-Faruqi contains problematic elements, especially in the metaphysical aspect, namely the concept of tawhid which is al-Faruqi theological idea when applied in the realm of science which should be empirical. On the other hand, there are important similarities between al-Faruqi and Immanuel Kant that science cannot be separated from morality which plays a role in directing science to contribute to the good of humanity.

Abstract

The phenomenon of post-truth has significantly affected religious life in the digital age, where emotional narratives and personal beliefs often overshadow objective truth. This paper explores how post-truth undermines the authority of sacred texts, shifting religious understanding towards subjective interpretations driven by personal and group affiliations. Using Gadamer's hermeneutics, particularly the concept of “fusion of horizons,” this study offers a critical framework for reinterpreting religious texts in a dynamic and context-sensitive manner. The research employs a qualitative literature review method, analyzing works on hermeneutics, post-truth, and theological interpretation. The findings reveal that personal authority and emotional attachment to religious figures have become dominant in shaping religious understanding, often at the expense of rational and text-based theological discourse. Furthermore, the relativization of truth in post-truth societies challenges the absolute nature of divine revelation, leading to fragmented interpretations of sacred texts. However, rather than viewing post-truth solely as a threat, this paper argues that it presents an opportunity for theological renewal. By integrating critical hermeneutics with a contextual approach, sacred texts can remain relevant as sources of absolute truth while being responsive to contemporary social and moral challenges. Thus, hermeneutics serves as a bridge between the immutable essence of revelation and the evolving human understanding.

Abstract

This article compares Plato’s rational view with al-Ghazali’s transcendental approach to self-control, advancing an integrative model that harmonizes rational and spiritual dimensions. Addressing the lack of systematic integration in existing literature, this study employs comparative-conceptual and hermeneutic methods to analyze the philosophical foundations of both thinkers. The results reveal that their divergence lies primarily in accentuation: Plato emphasizes rationality, whereas al-Ghazali prioritizes transcendence, a difference stemming from their distinct ethical orientations. However, significant similarities exist, providing a basis for synthesis. Consequently, this study proposes a "rational-cum-transcendental" model of self-control. In this framework, rationality evaluates the motivations and consequences of behavior, while the transcendental dimension imbues actions with higher purpose and meaning. This synthesis offers a holistic approach, contributing to Islamic philosophy and interdisciplinary discourses on self-regulation across psychology, ethics, and education

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of toxic femininity and unhealthy competition among professional Muslim women in the workplace, focusing on its manifestations, underlying factors, psychological impacts, and coping strategies. Using a phenomenological approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with four Muslim female informants and analyzed with NVivo software. The findings reveal that toxic femininity manifests in symbolic sabotage, gossip, social exclusion, hierarchical dominance, and the misuse of religious symbols. Contributing factors include professional insecurity, patriarchal culture, and the absence of fair and inclusive organizational policies. The impacts experienced by the informants include chronic stress, psychosomatic symptoms, declining motivation, and social isolation. Coping strategies tend to be personal and spiritual, such as prayer, dhikr, and informal support from family or alumni networks, while collective approaches often fail due to a lack of structural support. This study proposes an integrative 3P model—Psychology, Communication, and Islamic Ethics—as an intervention framework, encompassing the development of psychological safety, ethical communication training, and Islamic leadership grounded in maqashid al-shariah. This model offers a transformative strategy to foster a workplace culture that is just, collaborative, and aligned with Islamic values. Keywords: toxic femininity, queen bee syndrome, organizational psychology, Islamic ethics, gender communication

Abstract

This article seeks to clarify the meaning of wujūd (existence) through a focused comparison of key terminological pairs in the thought of Ibn ‘Arabī and Mullā Ṣadrā, with the aim of elucidating how unity and multiplicity can be understood without lapsing into pantheism. The study employs a qualitative, library-based approach that draws upon both primary and secondary sources. It is conducted through conceptual analysis, comparative examination of terminology, and the mapping of functional correspondences between ideas. The main findings indicate that wujūd constitutes the most concrete reality, while multiplicity appears as a gradation of intensity. At the level of functional correspondence, a‘yān ṯābitah operate as archetypal patterns that determine tajallī (divine manifestation), whereas in Ṣadrā’s framework, wujūd rābiṭ explains existential dependency as non-autonomous existence. Tajaddud al-khalq (the continual renewal of creation) is shown to align with al-ḥarakah al-jawhariyyah (substantial motion), and the ‘ālam al-mithāl (imaginal world) functions as a barzakh mediating knowledge and stitching together the spiritual and material realms. The implications of this study the purification of terminology from pantheistic reduction, the provision of a working matrix for hermeneutics, ethics, and spiritual cultivation, and the establishment of a conceptual foundation for employing imaginal epistemology. The novelty of this research lies in its limitation of scope to two pairs of terms and in the formulation of a functional correspondence between a‘yān ṯābitah and wujūd rābiṭ without conceptual identification, thereby providing an explicit and applicable map of correspondence for the dialogue between philosophy and ‘irfān

Abstract

This article discusses the ideological contest between Islamism and Secularism in the thinking of two important figures of the 20th century: Hasan al-Banna and Ali Abd al-Raziq. The main issues in this study are: first, how the political thought of Hasan al-Banna and Ali Abd al-Raziq shaped the vision of an Islamic state or a civil state; and second, to what extent the concepts of Hakimiyah and secularism are contradictory or, in fact, open up opportunities for compromise and dialogue in the context of modernity. This study uses a library research approach with a critical-comparative analysis method of the texts and ideas of the two figures. The results of the analysis show that al-Banna (and Qutb) emphasize the integration of religion and politics based on Sharia, while Abd al-Raziq proposes the desacralization of power and opens space for modern political ijtihad. However, this study does not stop at the dichotomous opposition between Islamism and secularism, but rather attempts to explore opportunities for conceptual dialogue between the two in constructing an ethical, rational, and contextual Islamic political paradigm. The findings of this study confirm that the debate between the two ideologies reflects an epistemological conflict between the theology of power and the universal ethics of Islam, while also offering space for synthesis in the effort to formulate a new relationship between religion, the state, and modernity. Thus, the discourse of Islamism and secularism is no longer understood as a binary opposition, but as a creative dialectic that enriches the dynamics of contemporary Islamic politics.

Abstract

The general understanding of Islamic philanthropy, especially zakat, is often limited to its function of material redistribution, thereby neglecting its potential as a means of more fundamental educational transformation. This study aims to analyze the BEBEZA (Berdaya Bersama Zakat) Program in Sukabumi, one of Regencies in West Java, as an ontological manifestation of Islamic Religious Education in the process of strengthening mustahiq. This study attempts to connect philosophical discourse with empirical practice through an in-depth study of the transformation mechanisms that occur in mustahiq, which are understood not merely as economic empowerment, but as a process of enhancing self-quality existence. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design, and the analysis is conducted through the lens of Mulla Sadra's Ḥikmah Muta’āliyah, specifically the concepts of the principal of existence (Aṣālat al-Wujūd), the gradation of existence (Tashkīk al-Wujūd), and substantial movement (Al-Ḥarakah al-Jawhariyyah). Data was collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document study, then analyzed thematically and interpretively, accompanied by source triangulation to increase validity. The results show that the BEBEZA Program effectively triggers substantial movement in the mustahiq. The intervention not only has an impact on increasing economic capacity, but also improves the quality of their existence, which is reflected in the growth of self-confidence, initiative, social involvement, and spiritual deepening. This study concludes that a holistically designed Islamic philanthropy model can serve as a transformative educational instrument for shaping empowered and independent individuals (Insān al-Kāmil), as well as offering an alternative philosophical framework for the design of religious-based empowerment programs.

Abstract

Indonesia’s State Defence (Bela Negara) program stands at a strategic crossroads, caught between the legacy of Total People’s Defence and the exigencies of modern hybrid warfare. This article problematizes the prevailing military epistemic monopoly within policy formulation, which systematically marginalizes civilian expertise in favor of anachronistic, territorial-physical paradigms. Utilizing a qualitative methodology grounded in the framework of Epistemic Pluralism, this study argues that contemporary national resilience requires a structured negotiation between Militerwissen (hierarchical-tactical knowledge) and Bürgerwissen (networked-civilian knowledge). The research proposes a fundamental transition toward a cognitive-technocratic defence model that prioritizes data sovereignty and intellectual capital over mere physical mobilization. Findings indicate that the functional integration of civilian expertise specifically in cyber security, epidemiology, and data science is an absolute prerequisite for defence effectiveness in the era of Gray Zone Operations. Ultimately, this shift necessitates "epistemic humility" within military institutions to foster an equitable civil-military partnership, transforming Bela Negara from a relic of civilian militarization into a dynamic instrument of modern national resilience.
