Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

While many known risk factors and mechanisms for psychosis exist, the time it takes for these risk factors and mechanisms to influence psychosis remains unclear. Furthermore, the average duration of a psychotic symptom has not been estimated. The aim of the study is to discover the average duration of an episode of psychotic symptoms and other mental disorders, as well as the average duration by which psychological mechanisms of risk factors and psychotic symptoms or other mental disorders operate. This study is an online longitudinal survey with various time-interval assessments (baseline, 7 daily, 4 weekly, 4 fortnightly, and 6 monthly assessments). A community sample of Indonesians were recruited via internet and a sample of help-seekers were recruited from clinical practices. From November 2018 to March 2019, we recruited 464 participants who completed the baseline survey from the community. Of the 464 participants, 73% of them are female with ages ranging from 18 - 57 years and 33.2% reported having been diagnosed with at least one mental disorder. The expected results of the surveys provide us with estimates regarding appropriate time-intervals of risk factors and mechanisms of psychosis.

Abstract

Parental divorce will influence how a child develops their self-esteem. After divorce, the relationship between parents and their children also tends to get disturbed and become inconsistent. With regard to the developmental task during early adulthood to build intimacy with others, the aim of this study was to determine the relationship between self-esteem, perceived parenting style, and fear of intimacy. This quantitative study conducted a survey. The results revealed that self-esteem and perceived democratic parenting style were correlated with fear of intimacy among early adults with divorced parents. These correlations, however, were only weak to moderate, suggesting that future studies on fear of intimacy should consider the role of other factors.

Abstract

Emotional disorders can affect the overall health of adolescents. One frequent emotional disorder among adolescents is anxiety disorders. The fact that many factors play roles in the development of anxiety disorders in adolescents signifies the importance to investigate these factors among adolescents aged 14–17 years in Denpasar City. This study used a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design and an analytical survey method. The results showed that out of 370 adolescents, 133 (35.9%) suffered from severe to extreme anxiety and other 125 (33.8%) experienced mild to moderate anxiety. History of any chronic disease, sleep quality, authoritarian parenting style, permissive parenting style, and family harmony were found to be associated with anxiety. Of these, sleep quality was the most predictive. Hence, it is necessary for the Health Department in Denpasar City, schools and parents to come together and raise awareness about the importance of sleep quality for adolescents.

Abstract

This intervention used art and supportive therapy to relieve depressive symptoms in a woman victim of sexual violence. The art therapy utilized a creative process to help the participant explore herself through drawing as a medium emphasizing freedom in communication, so it was expected that it would help her cope with problems. The supportive therapy aimed to provide encouragement and efficacy for the participant so she could develop insight. The participant in this report was one female victim of sexual violence who had symptoms of depression. The measuring instrument used to determine the participant’s level of depression was the Beck Depression Invetory-II (BDI-II). Then, the effectiveness of the intervention was evaluated using a qualitative descriptive analysis highlighting some changes from before to after the intervention. The results showed that the participant’s depressive symptoms decreased from the pre-intervention measurement.

Abstract

The tendency toward cognitive rumination among females in their late adolescence was increasing during the COVID-19 pandemic, which in turn may lead to the development of anxiety and depression disorders. Lyrics Analysis Intervention in group aiming to redirect thoughts and introduce more effective coping mechanisms is one of the methods in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to overcome cognitive rumination. In this report, the characteristic shared by the intervention group members as a fan of the South Korean boy band, BTS (Bangtansonyeondan), was used as a basis of the song selection. Discussing the song "Permission to Dance" with its optimistic lyrics has provided insight into positive and effective coping strategies as a way to conduct cognitive rumination. The results of this research suggest that combining Lyrics Analysis Intervention with psychoeducation and self-monitoring task can reduce the participants' symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress.

Abstract

English has become the lingua franca in scientific communication. Non-native researchers were even found to submit 60% of their manuscripts in English (Stockemer & Wigginton, 2019). A belief that English publications can increase the reputation of the authors was known as the primary motivation behind this publication preference. Indeed, English articles tend to obtain a higher number of citations (Di Bitetti & Ferreras, 2017). This might be because English renders publications accessible to more readers. Many institutional bodies (including universities) eventually encourage their researchers to publish their works exclusively in English (Márquez & Porras, 2020).
