Abstract

AbstractCareer guidance and counseling play a central role in assisting senior high school students in determining their educational and professional futures that align with their potential and interests. This study aims to analyze the participation of senior high school students in accessing AI chatbot-based career counseling services in two leading schools. The research method employed is Participatory Action Research (PAR) using a descriptive quantitative approach. The research sample consisted of grade X, XI, and XII students from SMAN Unggul Tunas Bangsa and SMAN Unggul Harapan Persada, totaling 220 respondents categorized by class, gender, and service access time. Data were collected based on the total number of users accessing career services through both face-to-face and AI chatbot modes. The findings revealed a significant increase in the number of accesses to AI chatbot-based career counseling services compared to face-to-face counseling across all grade levels. In terms of gender, female students tended to be more active and open in utilizing digital services, while male students preferred technology-based solutions offering greater privacy and flexibility. Moreover, most students preferred to access the services outside school hours, emphasizing the need for flexible, anytime-anywhere, accessible, and user-friendly platforms. The study concludes that AI chatbot-based career counseling effectively enhances participation, broadens access, and accommodates students’ diverse needs across grade levels, genders, and service times. The developed AI chatbot is expected to be adopted more extensively and adaptively by schools as a technology-based counseling service to better prepare students for the challenges of the digital-era workforce.

Abstract

This study examines community perceptions and levels of interest in the establishment of a state polytechnic in the West-South Aceh region, particularly following the collaborative initiative of D4 programs by Akademi Komunitas Negeri Aceh Barat (AKN Aceh Barat) and Politeknik Negeri Lhokseumawe (PNL). Using a quantitative cross-sectional design, data were collected through an online survey completed by 242 respondents. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, and one-way ANOVA were applied to assess perceptions across three key indicators: the urgency of establishing a polytechnic, personal interest in attending, and family interest in polytechnic education. Results indicate overwhelming support across demographic groups, with over 93% consider the establishment urgent, and more than 84% expressed personal or familial interest. Although men showed significantly higher personal interest than women, no significant differences were observed by region or education level. Community preferences for mining, maritime, and informatics programs demonstrate a clear connection to the region’s workforce demands and industrial profile. These findings provide strong empirical support for upgrading AKN Aceh Barat into a state polytechnic, addressing both educational and regional workforce development needs.

Abstract

English has become a significant medium of communication in Indonesian pesantren, yet limited research has examined how students in this setting produce spoken English. Previous studies have largely focused on curriculum, teacher identity, and learner motivation, while little attention has been given to the morphosyntactic and lexical features of pesantren students’ actual speech. This study addresses the gap by analyzing the spoken English of 19 students (10 male, 9 female) from a pesantren in Banda Aceh through recorded interviews that were transcribed and coded for grammatical, lexical, and discourse errors. Error types were classified using an SLA-oriented framework, including inflectional and derivational morphology, syntax, lexical choice, pragmatic/discourse, and interlingual errors. The findings reveal that female students were more vulnerable to inflectional morphology errors (50.72%), particularly with verb tense, copula omission, articles, and plural –s. Male students showed higher proportions of syntax errors (33.88%) and pragmatic/discourse errors (7.10%), including misordering, fragments, redundancy, and repetition. Both groups shared difficulties with derivational morphology and lexical choice, while interlingual interference was minimal. The results suggest that while pesantren students share developmental L2 difficulties, gender-based differences emerge in their grammatical and discourse patterns, offering implications for pedagogy and curriculum design.
