Abstract

The economic growth in the agriculture sector contributes to the income of the Bangka Belitung Island Province. In the few decades, pepper production in Indonesia retains its position as one of the biggest producers in the world. However, pepper production in the province goes down. Consequently, the income of pepper farmers reduces. Understanding the farmers' demographic and their perception of the technology acceptance model will help policymakers provide the best empowerment program and agricultural support program to uplift their welfare. The study aims to understand the socio-economic profile and the perception of pepper farmers towards the technology acceptance model using information technology in pepper farming activity. The data collection process was conducted from August to November 2019. Structured questionnaires and face-to-face data collection methods were applied to earn the primary data from 100 pepper smallholders in Bangka Tengah and Bangka Selatan, Bangka Belitung Island Province. Descriptive analysis was used to identify the respondents' profiles and explain their skills and awareness to adopt information technology in their farming activity. The study revealed that most of the pepper farmers were in the average age of 45 years old, held elementary school level, received income of about 5.7 million, was experienced farmers with 20 years of pepper farming activity, and had about 2.1 – 5 ha of land area. The majority of the pepper smallholders offered low scores to the proportion of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. The results benefit the policymaker and farmer in providing a better farming activity and offering the best program to empower pepper farmers.

Abstract

The presence of parasites has a negative effect on catfish (Clarias sp.) in the form of disease in its host. Parasites based on their environment or habitat can be divided into two, namely ectoparasites (parasites that live on the outer body surface of the host) and endoparasites (parasites that live inside the host’s body). This study aims to identify the type and analyze the prevalence level of parasites infecting catfish in the Fish Farms in Balunijuk Village and Petaling Banjar Village, Bangka Regency. This research was conducted in October-November 2020. The method used was a descriptive survey in the form of a purposive sampling method. Fish samples were taken from two stations, with each station taking two samples. Twenty fish samples were taken at each station. The results showed that there were 4 identified parasitic phyla, i.e. phylum Ciliophora consisted of Vorticella sp. and Stylonychia sp., Phylum Protozoa consisting of Blastodiniidae. Phylum Platyhelminthes consisting of Dactylogyrus sp., Gyrodactylus sp., and Ligula intestinalis., Phylum Nemathelminthes consisting of Camallanidae. The results showed that the highest prevalence level was found in Dactylogyrus sp., while the highest level of intensity and dominance was found in Blastodiniidae.

Abstract

Bali cattle is one of the typical Indonesian livestock that is widely cultivated because of its high reproductive and adaptation capabilities to the environment. However, behind these advantages, bali cattle have a weakness, namely they are susceptible to the jembrana virus which can cause jembrana disease. This disease will cause a decrease in the immune system of bali cattle so that they are susceptible to other diseases that will lead to the death of the cattle. The method used in the identification of the Jembrana disease virus is the Polymerase Chain Reaction-Reverse Transcription (PCR-RT) technique. Identification do 10 Bali cows in Panca Tunggal Village, South Bangka Regency and 11 Bali cattle in Temberan Village, Pangkalpinang City. The bali cattle serum used for virus identification was centrifuged to obtain buffycoat. The PCR-RT technique is carried out in several stages, namely sampling, buffycoat making, extraction, master mix making, amplification, agar manufacture, electrophoresis and visualization. Based on the test, it was found that A1 and A2 bali cattle from Panca Tunggal Village, South Bangka Regency indicated the presence of the Jembrana virus. So that this Polymerase Chain Reaction Technique can help detect the presence of the Jembrana virus in bali cattles.

Abstract

Catfish is a freshwater fish commodity that is currently being sought after by many people for consumption. The demand for catfish is increasing day by day. Catfish farming is one business that can develop rapidly. In the fish culture system, there are several factors such as fish growth. Factors that greatly affect the growth and development of fish are feed. The research objective was to determine the effect of different feeding on the growth and development of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) and to determine the nutritional content of types of feed for African catfish (Clarias gariepinus). This research was conducted in Desa Tugang, Kelapa District, West Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands Province. The research was conducted by observing the growth of catfish seeds which included total length, total weight, height, head length, tail length and dorsal fin length. The development of catfish seeds observed was the activity of moving and eating feed for 3 weeks of maintenance. The results of the study were calculated using the absolute weight growth formula and the absolute length growth formula. The study design used a completely randomized design (CRD) using 2 variations of feed with 5 times of repetition. The data obtained were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), to determine whether or not the feed given was significant or not on the growth of catfish. The results showed that catfish seeds fed natural earthworms had a faster growth and better development rate compared to pellet-fed catfish seeds. The ANOVA test results different feeding showed a significant effect on total length growth weight, total weight, head length, and dorsal fin length (F count?F table). Meanwhile, height and tail length did not have a significant effect (F count < F table). Keywords: Growth, Development, Catfish, Feed.
