The economic potential of ornamental plant farming in Kendari City is significant, given the rapid urban development and increasing market demand. However, the sector faces challenges related to production costs, business management, technology, and capital. The objective of this study is to analyze the practices and economic implications of ornamental plant farming in Kendari City. The research method employed is a survey method with a case study approach. The research population consists of all ornamental plant cultivation businesses in Kendari City, with a sample size of 25 people. The data was analyzed using a quantitative descriptive approach. The results indicate that the commercial cultivation of ornamental plants in Kendari City is economically viable and lucrative. In the context of horticultural enterprises, production costs are predominantly influenced by labor expenditures, particularly in the context of fertilization activities. This observation is indicative of the inherently labor-intensive nature of horticultural business operations. The age of the crop has been demonstrated to exert a substantial influence on revenue generation. Specifically, 4-month-old plants have been observed to yield higher revenue compared to 2-month-old plants, despite the extended production time associated with the former. The mean net income from ornamental plant farming is IDR 48,703,974 per cycle, or IDR 12,175,993 per month, indicating a high level of profitability. Ornamental plant farming possesses the potential to become a sustainable urban agribusiness in Kendari City.

The development of organic agriculture in Indonesia progresses slowly. The role of agricultural extension workers as farmer facilitators requires support from community opinion leaders. Opinion leaders have followers and influence within their communities, making their role crucial in accelerating the diffusion of innovation. This study aims to identify the characteristics and roles of opinion leaders by analyzing communication channels and the factors influencing the development of organic rice farming. The research employs a survey method with a questionnaire as the primary data collection tool. Data were gathered through interviews with 150 rice farmers and relevant stakeholders. In-depth interviews and observations were used to supplement the survey data. The research was conducted in East Kolaka Regency. Data were analyzed descriptively and using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM-PLS). Using diffusion theory, we identified 11 opinion leaders in the research area, characterized by their success in farming, experience, access to information, and openness. Opinion leaders maintain interpersonal relationships and are closely connected with other farmers. They serve as learning sources and consultation points for farmers in agricultural activities. Several factors influence the role of opinion leaders in the development of organic rice farming, including institutional characteristics, availability of demonstration plots, supporting factors, innovation characteristics, and the use of communication media. Therefore, agricultural extension workers should involve opinion leaders to accelerate the development of organic rice farming.

Food security remains a critical development challenge, particularly in regions facing complex environmental, socio-economic, and geographical constraints. This study aims to analyze the development of food security and examine the determinants influencing the Food Security Index (IKP) in Southeast Sulawesi Province, Indonesia, during the 2018–2023 period. The analysis uses balanced panel data from 17 districts/cities, sourced from official publications of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The dependent variable is the Food Security Index (IKP). In contrast, the explanatory variables include the Environmental Quality Index (IKLH), economic growth, population growth, poverty rate, rice productivity, and the proportion of coastal villages/subdistricts. Descriptive analysis and panel data regression were employed, with the Random Effect Model (REM) selected as the best estimation approach based on the Lagrange Multiplier test. The results indicate that the average IKP in Southeast Sulawesi increased over the study period, reflecting overall improvement in food security, although substantial disparities across districts persist. Regression results indicate that population growth, poverty, and coastal geographic characteristics have adverse, significant effects on food security, while rice productivity has a positive, significant impact. In contrast, environmental quality and economic growth do not exhibit statistically significant effects on the IKP during the study period. The model explains 27.57% of the variation in regional food security, highlighting the importance of demographic, socio-economic, productivity, and geographical factors. These findings suggest that improving food security in Southeast Sulawesi requires integrated policies that prioritize poverty reduction, population pressure management, enhancement of staple food productivity, and context-specific strategies for coastal areas, supported by inclusive and sustainable development approaches. This study contributes to the multidimensional interaction of factors shaping food security at the regional level.

The purpose of this activity is to empower the community through training in cassava chip production and the application of modern packaging technology to increase the added value of local food products. The potential of cassava commodities in Palangga Village, Duruka District is very high, but its utilization is still limited to the sale of raw materials with low economic value. This condition is caused by the community's limited knowledge of hygienic processing, proper frying techniques, and packaging systems that can maintain product quality and shelf life. The community service activity was carried out using a participatory approach that involved farmer groups and housewives as key partners. All stages of the training were carried out through demonstrations and hands-on practice so that participants could understand and apply the skills they had acquired independently in their own households. The results of the activity showed a significant increase in the community's knowledge and skills in food processing and packaging technology. The products resulting from the training had a longer shelf life, stable crispness, and a more professional packaging appearance. Participants are able to operate simple packaging tools and develop creativity in product label design. The impact of the activity is immediately felt through the growth of entrepreneurial motivation among housewives and increased public interest in developing small businesses based on local agricultural products.

Classic problems that often culminate in conflicts in the utilization of common-pool resources, including irrigation systems, have led to declining farmer participation in contributing to irrigation infrastructure maintenance. As a consequence, irrigation functionality deteriorates due to damage, which in turn affects water availability for lowland rice production. This study aims to analyze the behavior of water-user farmers in the utilization of irrigation water and to formulate an institutional design for irrigation water management. The research was conducted in Jati Bali Village, West Ranomeeto Sub-District, South Konawe Regency, in October 2025. Data were collected using game experiment and choice experiment approaches, namely social experiments designed to simulate real-world situations faced by the subjects, in this case farmers who are members of Water User Farmer Associations (P3A). The data were analyzed using hierarchical linear regression. The results show that education level, landholding size, proportion of water rights, social trust, the presence of monitoring, and penalty tariffs have a positive and significant effect on the magnitude of individual players’ investment. Meanwhile, age does not have a significant effect. This indicates that the effectiveness of lowland rice irrigation management, both in experimental settings and under real field conditions, is highly dependent on a combination of secure water rights, monitoring and sanction mechanisms, and the level of social trust among farmers.

The issue of sustainability is currently a very important issue in agricultural development. Organic farming is an application of a sustainable agricultural system. The back to nature lifestyle has become a trend for some people. However, the phenomenon encountered in the field is that there are still many organic farmers who have not fully implemented organic farming cultivation techniques in accordance with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) issued by the Indonesian National Standardization Agency (BSN) and the adoption of innovations also seems slow. This study was conducted to describe the tendency of communication network patterns in farmer women's groups so as to accelerate the process of diffusion of innovations related to the development of organic farming in Kambu District, Kendari City. The specific objectives were: (1) analyzing the role of each key informant; (2) knowing the pattern of communication networks formed in organic farming development activities. This research is a survey research using quantitative analysis. The research location is in Kambu Sub-district, Kendari City, Southeast Sulawesi Province. Data collection was conducted through surveys, in-depth interviews, focused discussions and observations. Sample determination in this study is by census. Data analysis was descriptive. The results obtained in this study are that in the KWT Manggarai communication network there are three cliques in the form of fingers centered on one individual and spread to members. The specific functions found in the KWT Manggarai communication network are star, opinion leader, liaison officer, bridge, and no isolate. The average degree of connectedness in the KWT Manggarai communication network system is 21.33 and is classified as very good.
