Abstract

Cocoa is one of the commodities as a foreign exchange earner in addition to oil and gas. However, Indonesian cocoa imports have increased from year to year due to low cocoa productivity. Whereas in terms of region, Indonesia has the potential to become a new cocoa power country in the world of cocoa production. This study examines the effect of rainfall, the number of rainy days, and air temperature on cocoa production in the Gunungkidul district. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method. The data used in this study is secondary data in the form of time series data on rainfall, rainy days, air temperature, and cocoa production in 2016-2020 in Gunungkidul Regency. The regression analysis results showed that all observed climatic factors such as rainfall, rainy days, and temperature did not have a significant effect on cocoa production in Gunungkidul Regency. However, the time-series data shows that the highest cocoa production was in October 2017 and November 2018 to January 2019, when rainfall and intensity (rainy days) began to increase. Meanwhile, the air temperature in Gunungkidul Regency for five years is around 24-26°C, which is the optimum temperature for cocoa growth. This study concludes that rainfall, rain intensity (rainy days), and temperature affect fluctuations in cocoa production.

Abstract

Oil palm is a plant that produces vegetable oil and is cultivated in various terrain, including undulating flats and mountainous hills. The aim of this study was to identify the factors causing losses in these areas and to investigate ways to reduce the production and income effects of these losses. The research was conducted at the Palm Oil Plantation of PT. Supra Matra Abadi in North Sumatra Province, using a quantitative research method. Samples were taken from blocks A, B (planted in 1988) and C, D (planted in 2016). The parameters observed included the number of losses in the circle, path, and collection point of FFB, areas, plant age, and the suitability and completeness of equipment. Treatments included spraying on circles, paths, and collection points of FFB, as well as the placement of employees based on their experience level and the provision of tools. Data analysis was conducted using the t-test to compare results before and after treatment. The study found that the highest losses occurred in mountainous hill areas, with an average of 2.394 kg.ha-1, while the lowest losses occurred in undulating flat areas, with an average of 1.420 kg.ha-1. The results also showed that losses decreased by 28.17% or 0.678 kg.ha-1 in mountainous hill areas and by 36.93% or 0.522 kg.ha-1 in undulating flat areas after treatment. The economic value of losses was IDR 2,271.30 per ha in mountainous hill areas and IDR 1,748.70 per ha in undulating flat areas. Therefore, this study concludes that the spray treatment of circles, paths, collection point of FFB, placement of employees based on their experience level, and provision of equipment significantly reduced losses in undulating flat areas and mountainous hills.

Abstract

Several factors, including the less-than-optimal altitude of Arabica coffee planting influence the low productivity of Arabica coffee in Temanggung Regency. The lack of rejuvenation of production plants means that old coffee plants have low productivity; apart from these two factors, farmers do not have good plant management skills. This research further examines the influence of altitude on Arabica coffee production. This research was carried out in Temanggung Regency, with the sub-districts that were the sample for this research being Ngadirejo District, with an altitude range of 900-1150 m asl, Parakan District, with an altitude range of 1150-1400 m asl, and Kledung District with an altitude range of more than 1400 m asl. The sampling method employed in this study is a purposive sampling technique; the researcher directly determines the location and source of research information. A total of 28 participants responded to this study, with an assessment sample taken of 5% of the population of Arabica coffee plantations that bear fruit. The analysis used the linear regression method of a fixed variable, namely height, and independent variables, namely production, productivity, and evaluation, with a significance level of 5%. The research results show that altitude does influence productivity. If altitude increases, productivity will also increase.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the interaction between PGPR roots of Imperata cylindrica and cow manure on the growth and yield of Solanum melongena L., and to determine the optimal dose of both treatments. The study used a factorial Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors: the dose of PGPR roots of Imperata cylindrica (0, 10, 30, 50 ml) and cow manure (0, 1, 2 kg), with five replications, the data were analyzed by ANOVA at a 5% level and further tested with DMRT at a 5% level. The results showed a significant interaction between PGPR roots of Imperata cylindrica and cow manure on plant height and number of leaves, with the best results being PGPR 30 ml and cow manure 2 kg. The dose of PGPR Imperata cylindrica roots of 30 ml can increase plant height, number of leaves, fruit weight, fresh root weight, and root length. However, the dose of PGPR Imperata cylindrica roots of 50 ml can reduce the percentage of fruit wilting. The dose of 2 kg of cow manure can increase plant height, number of leaves, number of fruits, fruit weight, fresh root weight, dry root weight, and root length of plants. This study concluded that PGPR Imperata cylindrica roots and cow manure or their combination affect the growth and production of Solanum melongena L. plants.

Abstract

This research was conducted at PT. Sawit Sejahtera, South Sumatra Province, from February to April 2024. This study aimed to assess and test the effectiveness of castration tools by comparing 8 cm dodos with modified bamboo tools for castration on immature oil palm plants. This study used a survey method to describe the research location and collect primary data. The research was conducted in Block E-01, which has a hilly area. Each tool was tested on 150 sample trees located on 10 different terraces. The data observed included worker output, work quality, and safety risks. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test. The results showed that the use of the modified bamboo tool for castration was generally more effective as it produced 15.71% higher worker output compared to the dodos tool. Work quality was also better with the bamboo tool, as no fronds were damaged in the sample trees, while 126 trees or 84% of the sample trees were damaged due to the dodos tool. However, in terms of safety, no accidents were reported from using either tool. Nonetheless, the tool's effectiveness comes with the note that castration must be performed monthly.
