Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the suitability of the quality and safety of feed for layer with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) as an effort to maintain the quality of feed circulating in Tasikmalaya Regency. This study focuses on the SNI criteria for feed for leyer SNI 8290.5:2016. Sampling of layer was carried out at the center of layer farms in Tasikmalaya Regency, namely Padakembang District, Sukaratu District, Cibalong District, Karangnunggal District, Pagerageung District, Rajapolah District and Kadipaten District. The parameters tested were water, ash, crude protein, crude fat, crude fiber, calcium, phosphorus and aflatoxin. The average analysis results for these parameters are still in accordance with SNI based on the test uncertainty figures, the results of the ash analysis were 14.17% with a test uncertainty figure for ash of ±0.23% and aflatoxin 51.32 µg kg-1 with a test uncertainty figure for aflatoxin of ±3.07µg kg-1. The overall test results in Tasikmalaya Regency, for the test parameters of ash, crude protein, crude fat, calcium and aflatoxin were equally high for non compliance with the applicable SNI with the highest proportion above 25% of the total samples. The test parameters of factory feed that did not comply with SNI were ash, calcium and aflatoxin, for Poultry Shop (PS) test parameters that did not comply with SNI were ash, protein, calcium and aflatoxin while for farmer test parameters that did not comply with SNI were ash, protein, crude fat, calcium and aflatoxin. The high non-compliance of SNI in these test parameters shows how important it is to monitor and control the quality and safety of feed strictly to ensure that the feed given to livestock meets the established nutritional standards. Abstract

ABSTRACT. Jack bean (Canavalia ensiformis L.) is a potential alternative protein source to replace soybean meal in local feed formulations. While jack beans are high in protein, their high levels of anti-nutritional factors limit their use. Identifying effective processing techniques to improve the quality of jack beans is therefore essential. This study examines the effects of incorporating soaked and peeled jack bean meal into broiler diets on internal organs, digestive organs, and intestinal villi morphology. The jack beans were processed by soaking for 3 hours, peeling, oven drying, and grinding into meal form. A completely randomized design was used, with three levels of processed jack bean inclusion (0% JBM0, 5% JBM5, and 10% JBM10), each replicated six times. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by a post hoc Tukey test for significant findings. The results indicated that soaking for 3 hours and peeling effectively lowered the hydrogen cyanide (HCN) content from 207.61 ppm to 51.21 ppm. The inclusion of processed jack bean meal had no significant impact (P>0.05) on internal organs, digestive tract organs, or intestinal villi morphology. These findings suggest that processed jackbean meal can replace soybean meal in poultry feed at levels up to 10% without adverse effects on internal organs.

Abstract

Abstract

This study evaluated the effects of cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) leaves extract (CLE) in drinking water on the performance and health profile of IPB-D1 chickens. Cassava leaves are known to contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and saponins which have antioxidant and antibacterial properties. These compounds can provide positive effects such as feed efficiency, improving growth performance and health status of chickens by improving the immune system and reducing oxidative stress. Cassava leaves extract acts as a phytogenic additive that can be given in livestock drinking water. This study used 180 IPB-D1 chickens aged 2–8 weeks were randomly assigned to three treatments: CLE0 (control), CLE1 (17 ml/l CLE), and CLE2 (50 ml/l CLE). Parameters observed included growth performance, organ morphometry, hematological profiles, and ileal histology. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc test (p<0.05). cassava leaves extract supplementation did not adversely affect growth or feed intake. Final body weight and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were not significantly different among the groups. A reduction in leukocyte counts was observed, particularly in the CLE2 group, with a relative increase in heterophils, though values remained within physiological limits. Histological analysis revealed a significant increase in villus surface area in the CLE2 group, followed by CLE1, compared to the control (CLE0), suggesting enhanced intestinal morphology and nutrient absorption potential. Cassava leaves extract can be given in the drinking water of IPB-D1 chickens without disrupting their performance and health profile. These findings indicate that cassava leaves extract can improve gut structure without compromising performance, supporting its application as a safe and beneficial phytogenic additive in poultry diets.

Abstract

This study evaluated the effects of feeding bawang dayak (Eleutherine palmifolia) meal ina diet containing Lemuru fish oil on performance and on egg quality in quails. This study used a layerof 160 quail with a Coturnix-Coturnix japonica strain aged 8 weeks. A completely randomized design (CRD) with four treatments, four replications and ten quail per replication was used in this experiment. The treatments consisted of R1 = basal diet without bawang dayak meal (control diet), R2 = basal diet containing 0.1% bawang dayak meal, R3 = basal diet containing 0.2% bawang dayak meal, and R4 = basal diet containing 0.3% bawang dayak meal. The variables observed were quail performance, egg physical quality, and cholesterol egg yolk level. The data were analysed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the post hoc Tukey test. The results showed that the use of bawangdayak meal had no significant effect (p>0.05) on quail performance or egg physical quality but had a significant effect (p<0.05) on cholesterol in the egg yolk. In conclusion, feeding bawang dayak meal up to 0.3% in a diet containing lemuru fish oil did not negatively impact quail productivity and can increase feed efficiency. Feeding 0.3% bawang dayak meal can reduce cholesterol in egg yolks.
