Abstract

This study aimed to analyse the antioxidant activity, total phenols, and flavonoids of kersen leaves (Muntingia calabura L.) extract (KLE) and determine the hepatoprotective activity of KLE in soft drink induced mice. Soft drinks induction causes liver injuries which increases the serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT) and serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase (SGPT) levels. Mice were divided into five treatment groups (n=5) and were given Tween 80 (1%) (normal control), Tween 80 (1%) and 7 ml soft drinks (negative control), KLE (1000, 1500, and 2000 mg/kg), and 7 ml soft drinks per oral once daily for 4 weeks. Antioxidant activity was measured by 2.2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method. Total phenols and flavonoids were analyzed by Folin-ciocalteu colorimetric and aluminium chloride (AlCl3) method. The blood samples were collected for biochemical analysis. The result showed that the KLE antioxidant activity were 11.11+0.50 ppm. Total phenols and flavonoids detected in the KLE samples were 2.19+0.12 mgGAE/g and 2.43+0.24 mgQE/g respectively. Mice treated with KLE had a significantly lower (p<0.05) serum SGOT and SGPT levels than negative control group. In conclusion, KLE has a potential hepatoprotective activity that works in synergy with its antioxidant activity.

Abstract

Suplemen as imunomodulator used to increase immune response, to prevent disease. Herb and Zinc (Zn) can function as imunostimulan. The aim of this experiment was (1) to studythe effect of Zn mineral and herb combination influence the healthy condition, performance and immunity responses, 2) to have blood biochemistry and organ function in broiler who given zinc mineral and herb combination, 3) to know the effectivity of herb and Zn to be treated by Colibacillosis condition One hundred broiler were used in this research, divided by 5 groups: RO (control), R1 (RO + 2.5% garlic powder+ 1.5% turmeric powder), R2 (R0+2.5% garlic powder+ZnO 120ppm), R3 (R0+1.5% turmeric powder+ZnO 120ppm), R4 (R0+2.5% garlic powder +1,5% turmeric powder and ZnO 120ppm). The parameters in this research are the erythrocyte count, hemoglobin, and pack cell volume and total leucocyte. Blood biochemistry are investigate protein total, albumin, alanine aminotransferase (AL T), aspartat aminotransferase (AST), creatinin and ureum. The research showed that the erythrocyte count, hemoglobin, and pack cell and blood biochemistry in normal value, that explain safety for organ function and health group showing health status and performance is good, tested in ability to attack Colibasilosis. The result of research show and hematologi in normal, The age of chicken was 3 weeks, all of groups were treated by innoculum of Eschericia coli (E. col!) bacteria with 108 CFU.mr1 doses per-ons. The parameter was based on performance, health condition, and immunity responses. The activity and the capacity of phagositosis for assessments immunity respons, the result showed to decerease the performance and healthy condition at the first week infection, then converse to improve at the second week. The amount of leucocyt cell, especially heterophyl cell was increased at 1 week after infection as being indicated by the appearance of innoculum E. coli bacteria. The amount of leaucocyt cell was decreased directly after 2 weeks post infection at the group that was fed by turmeric-Zn (P1) and gave antibiotic (K+) drug. This condition showed that the body defence fastly to eliminate the infected agent which was supported by increasing phagocyitosis capacity (327±111 bacteria) and phagocyitosis activity 97%±10%, was compared with the control group (without drug) activity value 85±15% and phagocytosis capacity (176±118 bacteria). Feeding by turmeric-Zn combination showed better result which was compared to Garlic-Zn combination and the ability to increase healthy condition, performance and immunuity responses.

Abstract

Enam puluh ekor itik yang berumur lima minggu dipergunakan dalam penelitian ini. ltik dibagi secara acak menjadi dua kelompok yaitu kelompok infeksi dan kontrol.Kelompok pertama diinfeksi dengan Pasteurelhz multocida (Isolat lapangan) secara intramuskular. Itik diambil darahnya dan dinekropsi 1, 2, 4 dan 8 jam setelah infeksi untuk pemeriksaan diferensial lekosit dan perubahan makroskopik.Itik yang diinfeksi mulai menunjukkan lesio empat jam setelah infeksi. Itik yang diinfeksi dan mati menunjukkan gejala septikemi dengan hiperemi umum. Pemeriksaan gambaran lekosit menunjukkan peningkatan jumlah heterofil dan penurunan jumlah limfosit dan monosit 2,4 dan 8 jam setelah infeksi.

Abstract

Telah ditemukan kasus kolera pada itik yang diperiksa di Laboratorium Patologi Unggas, Fakultas Kedokteran Hewan, lnstitut Pertanian Bogor antara tahun 1992 hingga 1994.Kebanyakan itik terserang kolera yang akut, tanpa gejala klinis dan kematian mendadak. Beberapa itik terserang secara kronis dengan gejala klinis sesak nafas dan kebengkakan pada gejala kepala.Gambaran patologi anatonli yang tampak berupa titik perdarahan pada epikardium enteritis kartarhalis, hepatitis nekrotikan rqilier, linlpa membengkak, peradangan pada kantung udara, pecah kuning telur, serta peradangan pada ovariurn dan sinus. Dari darah jantung dan sumsum tulang itik dapat diisolasi bakteri Pasteureulla multocrda. Kelinci yang disuntik dengan suspensi bakteri mati dengan gejala septikemia yang ditandai dengan perdarahan padaepikardium dan selaput serosa. hiperemi dan pembengkakan umum serta enteritis.

Abstract

Seratus ekor itik Alabio yang berumur lima rninggu dibagi menjadi empat kelompok berdasarkan rute infeksi yaitu intravena (i.v.), intramuskular (i.m.) intratrakhea (i.t.) dan kontrol (K). Kelompok perlakuan diinfeksi dengan bakteri P. multocida yang diisolasi dari itik dengan dosis 2x 105   cfu mL. Semua itik dinekropsi setelah satu, tiga, enam, 12 dan 24 jam infeksi. Itik-itik dari Kelompok i.v. menunjukkan septikemia hemorhagika, sedang itik dari Kelompok i.m. dan i.t. menunjukkan kerusakan yang sama tiga jam p.i. Semakin lama waktu pengamatan, semakin parah proses kerusakannya. Pada Kelompok Kontrol tidak ditemukan kerusakan

Abstract

This study was conducted to analyze the high cholesterol diet effect of egg yolk powder toward the increase of blood cholesterol and body weight in male New Zealand White rabbit and learned their liver histophatology figure. The experimental studies with Completely Randomized Design (CRD) used 13 male New Zealand White rabbit aged 6 – 7 months and weight 2,9 – 4,0 kg. Rabbit were divided into 3 groups: group 0 (n=4) given the standard feed, group 1 (n=4) given high cholesterol diet from egg yolk powder, and group 2 (n=5) given high cholesterol diet from egg yolk powder and red palm oil mix. The intervention was implemented for 8 weeks after 4 weeks adaptation period. The results showed that intervention of high cholesterol diet from egg yolk powder significantly increased levels of serum cholesterol and fatty liver, but did not significantly affect body weight of male New Zealand White rabbit.

Abstract

Infectious bursal disease (IBD) affects economical impact for breeders due to it can cause damage lymphoid organ, especially bursa of Fabricius and causing failure the vaccination program. Infectious bursal disease virus receptors on lymphoid organs suspected contribute to subclinical and clinical IBD incidence in the chickens. The aim of this study was to determine and compare the distribution of IBDvirus receptors on lymphoid organ of the chicken which obtained different IBD vaccination program. The presence of virus receptors in bursa of Fabricius, spleen, and thymus were observed microscopically using immunohistochemical method and evaluated with Image J® software. Monoclonal anti LSCC-BK3 (Gifu University, Japan) antibodies as primary antibody was used in this study. The result showed that IBDvirus receptors found abudantly in the bursa of Fabricius, afterwards in the spleen and thymus. No significant differences of IBD virus receptor distribution within lymphoid organs between chicken which obtained once and twice IBD vaccination. Infectious bursal disease virus receptor distribution in bursa Fabricius chickens aged 23 days received twice IBD vaccination more than once IBD vaccination program.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate dietary inclusion of silica+® on mineral metabolism, health status and excreta quality of broilers. This study used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 treatments and 6 replications (40 birds of each). The treatments were high nutrient diet (T1), T1 + silica+® 200 ppm (T2), low nutrient diet (T3), T3 + silica+® 200 ppm (T4), feed contain local feedstuff (rice bran) (T5), T5 + silica+® 200 ppm (T6). Parameters measured were minerals consumption, minerals retention, mineral content of the tibia, blood profile (erythrocytes, hemoglobin, hematocrit, leukocytes, differentiation of leukocytes and ratio H/L) and excreta quality (pH, water content and ammonia). The results showed that using silika+® 200 ppm increased (P <0.05) mineral consumption and excretion in low nutrient diet (T4), lowered (P <0.05) retention of Ca and Zn in high nutrient diet (T2), lowered (P<0.05) retention of Zn in low nutrient diet (T2), increased (P<0.05) Ca content in tibia bone in high nutrient diet (T2), increased Ca and Zn content in the tibia (P <0.05) in feed contain ricebran (T6), decreased the amount of fecal NH3 (P <0.05) in feed contain ricebran (T6), lowered E. coli in high nutriet diet (T2) and feed contain ricebran (T6). The conclusion of this study that silica+® could be used as feed additive to increase Ca and Zn deposition in tibia bone, lowering fecal NH3, lowering E. coli in ileum withouth any effect to the health status of broilers.

Abstract

Eimeria tenella is one of the nine of Eimeria species, a pathogenic intraseluler protozoa causing aviancoccidiosis. Infection was initiated by the ingestion of sporulated oocysts. The aim of this study was toinvestigate the effect of E. tenella oocyst incubation in methanol extract of Andrographis paniculata beforeinfection in broiler performance. This research used 115 broiler DOC (CP 707) devided into five groups,each group consisted of 23 broilers. The infection with 1x105 oocyst were done at the 14th day old of chicken.The 1st group was placebo (KN), while the 2nd group was infected with unincubated oocyst (KP), and theother three groups i.e. : 3rd, 4th, 5th were infected with incubated oocyst in A. paniculata extract for 2, 4, and6 hours, respectively. The number of oocysts in feces were counted on day 5th to 14th post-infection, theheterophile and macrophages were counted from caecum histology preparation, by slaughtered threechickens of each of groups on the day 0,3,6.9, and 14 post infection, and accretion body weight wasmeasured by weighing chickens per week to five-week old chickens. The results of this study indicated thatthe incubation period the sporulated oocyst in the extract of A.paniculata for six hours before infection,reduced the number of oocysts production in the feces, the number of inflammatory cells (macrophages andheterophile) in the cecum, and increases body weight (gain). In conclusion A.paniculata extract decreasedthe pathogenisity of E.tenella oocyst, so the extract of A.paniculata has good potential as anticoccidia. Itis high likely that A. paniculata extract has a potential to be anticoccidia.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of ethanol turmeric extract ointment in woundhealing process of streptozotocin-induced diabetic mice. Ethyl acetate and hexane fractions of ethanolturmeric extract were studied for their wound-healing properties in the formulation of ointment. Sixty micewere divided into 4 groups : group I was control (normal control, without treatment); group II was diabeticgroup (diabetic, without treatment); group III was diabetic and treated with ethyl acetate fraction ointment,group IV was diabetic and treated with hexane fraction ointment. The diabetic groups were i.p injectedwith 40mg/kg of streptozotocin and all groups were received incision 2 cm on their back skin. The ointmentsof ethyl acetate and hexane fraction were given topically twice a day. Three mice from each groups werenecropsied at 2nd, 4th, 7th, 14th and 21st days post incision (pi) for gross pathological and histopathologicalevaluation of the injured skin. Gross examination revealed that the ethyl acetate and hexane fractionointment groups showed better result on wound-healing process compared to the diabetic group.Microscopically, the ethyl acetate and hexane fraction ointment groups showed faster neovascularizationand reepithelialization compared to the diabetic group. In comparison with the diabetic group, the ethylacetate and hexane fraction ointment groups showed fewer neutrophils infiltration which indicated antiinflammatory activities of ethyl acetate and hexane fractions. Based on the macroscopic and microscopicobservation, the ointments of ethyl acetate and hexane fraction have properties to promote wound healingin diabetic mice.
