Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research aimed at finding out how far the use of cooperative learning type think-pair-share could help the students of VIII B SMPK 1 Harapan Denpasar on grade VIII B to improve their writing ability especially in using simple past tense. Some theoretical frameworks are used in this research, such as the theory of cooperative learning by Johnson & Smith (1993) and theory of think-pair-share by Pimm (1987). The result of quantitative data on cycle II showed that the use of cooperative learning type think-pair-share could improve students writing ability especially at writing dialogs using simple past tense. It can be seen from the result of the students mean score on cycle II which was 83.0 and categorized into good level. The improvement was supported by the qualitative data. From the qualitative data, it was showed that the students could write good dialogs using simple past tense with proper structure. Besides, the students could use the mechanics appropriately in their dialogs and they have better ideas.ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui berapa persen penggunaan model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe think-pair-share dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis peserta didik khususnya pada tulisan karangan dialog dengan menggunakan simple past tense pada kelas VIII B SMPK 1 Harapan Denpasar. Landasan teori digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu teori tentang pembelajaran kooperatif oleh Johnson & Smith (1993) dan teori tentang think-pair-share oleh Pimm (1987). Hasil data kuantitatif pada siklus II menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan teknik model pembelajaran kooperatif tipe think-pair-share dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis peserta didik khususnya pada karangan dialog dengan menggunakan simple past tense. Hal ini dapat dilihat dari hasil nilai rerata yang diperoleh oleh peserta didik pada siklus II yaitu 83.0 dan tetap berada dalam kategori baik. Peningkatan ini juga didukung oleh data kualitatif. Dari hasil data kualitatif, terbukti bahwa peserta2didik mampu menulis karangan dialog menggunakan simple past tense dengan penyusunan kalimat yang benar sesuai dengan tata bahasa. Selain itu, peserta didik juga mampu menggunakan ejaan (tanda baca) yang benar dalam karangan yang mereka susun dengan ide yang lebih baik.

Abstract

Bahasa Inggris adalah salah satu kemampuan komunikatif yang harus ditingkatkan pada era globalisasi karena bahasa Inggris sangat penting. Bagi mereka yang bekerja di sektor kesehatan, memahami Bahasa Inggris juga merupakan suatu kewajiban, terlebih lagi dengan diberlakukannya MEA (Masyarakat Ekonomi Asean) yang salah satunya meminta para perawat untuk dapat bersaing di era globalisasi ini. Menulis merupakan fokus pembahasan dalam penelitian ini karena beberapa perawat masih mengalami kesulitan dalam menulis deskripsi keluarga akibat kurangnya pembendaharaan kata dan mereka juga merasa kesulitan dalam menggabungkan kata menjadi suatu kalimat yang padu. Guided writing dapat digunakan untuk memecahkan masalah dalam menulis dan dapat meningkatkan kemampuan menulis mereka. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain pre eksperimen atau single group pre-test and posttest. Dalam penelitian ini, data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan tes untuk menentukan keberhasilan dalam proses pembelajaran. Terdapat dua jenis tes yang digunakan yaitu pretest dan post test. Berdasarkan data yang telah didapatkan, kebanyakan dari mereka mengalami kesulitan dalam menulis. Hal ini disebabkan karena kurangnya kesiapan dan terlalu banyaknya beban yang dirasakan oleh mereka.

Abstract

Writing is one of the skills that must be improved. Writing requires complex skills such as developing creative ideas, vocabulary variations and also using good and correct grammar. This is because most students lack vocabulary, find it difficult to generate ideas in writing and are less able to string words together in writing. One of the efforts to improve writing skills is through the presentation of Silent Cartoon Animation in Narrative Text writing. The purpose of this study is to improve the ability to write narrative texts by using silent cartoon animation in an effort to provide a stimulus to students so that they can come up with ideas that can be put into written form. This research uses the classroom action research (CAR) method which examines quantitative and qualitative data from the applied linguistic aspect. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the use of Silent Cartoon Animation media was able to improve students' abilities in writing narrative text.

Abstract

Discourse markers are essential for effective communication, serving to structure and manage interactions in both native and non-native language contexts. Despite their significance, there is a noticeable gap in the literature regarding their specific functions within English as a Foreign Language (EFL) settings and how these functions align with theoretical frameworks versus practical classroom applications. This study aims to address this gap by exploring the use of discourse markers in an EFL classroom setting and assessing their impact on communication. The study’s primary objective is to analyze the utilization of discourse markers in EFL classroom interactions, identify patterns of their usage, and evaluate their effectiveness in facilitating communication between students and teachers. Employing a qualitative research design, the study involved detailed observations of one randomly selected class at Bali International Language Center (BILCEN). Data were collected through audio recordings of classroom interactions, which were transcribed and analyzed thematically. Instruments used for data collection included observation protocols and transcription software. The findings indicate that discourse markers were frequently used to manage conversational flow, signal transitions, and link ideas, playing a crucial role in maintaining coherence and promoting smoother communication. However, instances of overuse or incorrect usage occasionally led to misunderstandings among students. In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of discourse markers in enhancing EFL classroom interactions and suggests that focused instruction on these markers can significantly improve students' communicative competence. By bridging the gap between theoretical understanding and practical implementation, the research offers valuable insights for educators aiming to enhance oral communication skills in EFL contexts

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of employee commitment, organizational culture and the spirit on employee performance at Maxi Hotel Restaurant and Spa Legian. Questionnaires are distributed to 94 respondents who are all members of the population. This study uses regression analysis techniques with hypothesis testing using T test and F test. The results of the T test shows that employee commitment has a positive and significant effect on employee performance at Maxi Hotel Restaurant and Spa Legian. This is proof by the results of the analysis showing the value of the regression coefficient X1(b1) tcount = 4.694 > ttable (0.05:89) = 1.66 and sig t = 0.002 (p < 0.05). Organizational culture has a positive and significant effect on employee performance at Maxi Hotel Restaurant and Spa Legian. This is proof by the results of the analysis showing the value of the regression coefficient X2(b2) tcount = 9.984 > ttable (0.05:89) = 1.66 and sig t = 0.000 (p <0.05). Morale has a positive and significant effect on the performance of Maxi Hotel Restaurant and Spa Legian employees. This is proof by the results of the analysis showing the value of the regression coefficient X3(b3) tcount = 11.987 > ttable (0.05:89) = 1.66 and sig t = 0.000 (p <0.05). Employee commitment, organizational culture and their morale have a positive and significant impact on the performance of Maxi Hotel Restaurant and Spa Legian employees. This is proof by the results of the analysis showing the regression coefficient value Fcount = 180,487 > Ftable (0.05:2:89) = 3.10 and sig F = 0.000 (p <0.05). The work spirit has variable on greatly influences the performance of Maxi Hotel Restaurant and Spa Legian employees with the largest Beta regression coefficient among other independent variables, namely 0.540, organizational culture variable with a value of 0.477 and employee commitment variable with a value of 0.320. Abstract

This research aims to analyse the ability of speaking performance English in Extrovert and Introvert students after participating in online learning. The personality of extrovert students is that they show the courage to speak in front of the class and give opinions or opinions. Meanwhile, introverted students are people who prefer to be silent and speak as needed, and prefer to have few friends. The purpose of this study is to analyse the impact of online learning in the Covid-19 era on the ability to speak English in extroverted and introverted students. The research method used is a qualitative method with descriptive research. There were 10 subjects in this study, the students were 5 extrovert students and 5 introvert students. The instruments used in this study were observation and interviews. This research technique uses triangulation which consists of; Questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. This research applies 6 steps to analyse data; grouping, preparing data, reading the result data, viewing the result data, giving a code or mark, making a research description. The results show that the impact of the covid-19 pandemic online learning on students' speaking performance in English in the Akademi Komunitas MAPINDO accommodation study program differs between extrovert and introvert students. Changes in the learning system from online learning to offline learning show positive and negative impacts on students' speaking performance in English. The results of this study indicate that introvert students feel a more positive impact from online learning on their English speaking ability in English, on the other hand, extrovert students do not feel any positive impact from online learning on English. There is an increase in the speaking ability in English of introverted students when participating in online learning. Abstract

This study aims to examine and analyze the effect of training, learning environment and learning motivation on the competence of students at PPLP Mapindo, Tabanan. The sample in this study were all students for the 2021/2022 Academic Year, a total of 50 students. Respondents' answers or responses will be processed by scoring/weighting using a Likert scale. Further analysis was carried out using multiple linear regression analysis techniques. Data collection methods using observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation. The results of the research using the t statistical test (partial significant test) show that training, learning environment and learning motivation partially have a positive and significant effect on the competence of students in PPLP Mapindo - Tabanan. The training variable has a more dominant influence on the competence of students at PPLP Mapindo - Tabanan. The implication of this research is one of the considerations in efforts to maintain and improve the competence of students at PPLP Mapindo - Tabanan which can be done by maintaining the quality of training, learning motivation and improving the campus environment. Abstract

This study aimed to determine the types of semantic roles and its phenomenon related to the utilizations of types of semantic roles on 3 chosen hotel websites. The phenomenon related was the language of hospitality namely English for Tourism Purposes (ETP) which is a necessity in hospitality field. The study conducted the qualitative method for content analysis to analyse 10 web pages of each three hotels through observation and comprehensive structural analysis (Roller, 2019: 2). The end result of the study were its correlation with the ETP and concluded in a statistics and showed based on the three hotels combined as follows: agent (465) times, patient (1,101) times, theme (564) times, experiencer (16) times, beneficiary (221) times, instrument (289) times, location (397) times, goal (93) times, source (116) times, and stimulus (89) times. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh kepemimpinan, kepuasan kerja, disiplin kerja dan kinerja pegawai pada Dinas Pariwisata dan Kebudayaan Kabupaten Jembrana. Kuesioner yang disebarkan kepada 38 responden merupakan perwakilan dari seluruh anggota populasi. Penelitian ini, mempergunakan teknik analisis regresi dengan pengujian hipotesis menggunakan Uji t dan Uji F. Hasil Uji t menunjukan bahwa kepemimpinan berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kinerja Pegawai Negeri Sipil pada Dinas Pariwisata dan Kebudayaan Kabupaten Jembrana. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai thitung sebesar 6,012 lebih besar dari ttabel sebesar 1,6909 dengan taraf signifikan 0,000 < 0,05. Kepuasan kerja berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kinerja Pegawai Negeri Sipil pada Dinas Pariwisata dan Kebudayaan Kabupaten Jembrana. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai thitung sebesar 4,263 > ttabel sebesar 1,6909 dengan taraf signifikan 0,000 < 0,05. Disiplin kerja berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kinerja Pegawai Negeri Sipil pada Dinas Pariwisata dan Kebudayaan Kabupaten Jembrana. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai thitung sebesar 4,912 > ttabel sebesar 1,6909 dengan taraf signifikan 0,000 < 0,05. Kepemimpinan, kepuasan kerja dan disiplin kerja secara bersama-sama berpengaruh positif dan signifikan terhadap kinerja Pegawai Negeri Sipil pada Dinas Pariwisata dan Kebudayaan Kabupaten Jembrana. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan nilai fhitung sebesar 33,591 > ftabel sebesar 3,28 dengan taraf signifikan 0,000 < 0,05. Variabel kepemimpinan sangat berpengaruh terhadap kinerja Pegawai Negeri Sipil pada Dinas Pariwisata dan Kebudayaan Kabupaten Jembrana dengan nilai koefisien regresi Beta paling besar diantara variabel bebas yaitu sebesar 0,580 dan nilai sig. sebesar 0,000. Abstract

Giving the right stimulus in early stage of age gives a very great impact to the next human development process. There are many methods that we can apply for balancing the right brain and the left brain capability. One of them is using a flash card as a media which uses a card game. Flash card is an effective media to teach children in reading a text and knowing their surrounding in an early age. Trough flash card we can introduce colours,animals, letters, numbers, and other things. In principle, introducing the learning materials trough flash card can be delivered in a simple way and the most important is a pleasure atmosphere both for the children (the learner) and the teacher. Therefore, we can conclude that eventhough the learning process only takes a few minutes but it gives a big benefit for our children. Key words: Effectiveness, Vocabulary, Flash Card
