Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the principal's academic supervision in increasing teacher professionalism. This research uses a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this study were principals, vice principals, and teachers. The results showed that the implementation of academic supervision by the principal was based on the need to overcome the problems of learning devices, lesson plans, learning materials, classroom management, assessment of learning outcomes, teacher discipline, and implementation of character education. In order for supervision to be carried out effectively, the principal seeks to build good relationships with teachers by fostering a sense of kinship, communicating with each other and providing information, providing motivation, and being an example for teachers. The supervision activities carried out are: 1) the supervisor and the teacher enter the classroom; 2) the teacher explains to the students the purpose of the supervisor's arrival; 3) the supervisor observes the teacher's appearance by using the observation assessment format that has been made and agreed upon; 4) during the observation the supervisor focuses on the contract agreement with the teacher. Abstract

This study critically examines the professionalization of Catholic Religious Education (CRE) teachers in Indonesia, revealing an epistemological tension between pedagogical rationality and faith formation. Using a narrative literature review combined with discourse analysis of the 2025 Self-Study Module: Professional Content for CRE, the findings show the dominance of secular-pedagogical discourse that prioritizes learning design, materials, and assessment, while the dimension of faith-based pedagogy and spiritual vocation remains marginal. The study introduces Faith-Based Pedagogical Content Knowledge (FBPCK) as a holistic framework integrating pedagogical competence, spiritual depth, and pastoral identity. It recommends reforming certification modules to include reflective, spiritual, and pastoral formation through guided reflection, spiritual accompaniment, and practice-based portfolios grounded in faith-based professionalism.

Abstract

This study specifically aims to investigate how Catholic families in Long Bagun, Mahakam Hulu Regency, East Kalimantan Province, interpret, adapt, and apply the principles of Christian moral sexuality education prescribed by Familiaris Consortio (FC) within the framework of Dayak local wisdom, in order to identify culturally grounded pedagogical strategies that support family-based catechesis and moral formation. This study employed a qualitative case study with an ethnographic approach, collecting data through in-depth semi-structured interviews, document analysis, and informal observations from December 2024 to April 2025, and analyzing them using thematic analysis to identify patterns of how Catholic families integrate Christian moral sexuality education with Dayak local wisdom. Findings reveal that the Church’s core principles of open, gradual, and integral formation are conveyed less through formal texts and more through culturally resonant pedagogies such as storytelling, exemplary living (teladan), communal practices of gotong royong, respect for elders, and the social moral grammar of malu. The Dayak sacred understanding of the body and nature serves as a bridge to Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the Body, reframing chastity as stewardship of a God-given “field” (ladang) entrusted to each person for the good of family and community. Parents creatively address cultural taboos and the challenges of digital media by embedding moral conversations in daily routines and community rituals, positioning the village as co-educator and the family as a vibrant “domestic church.” The study contributes to faith education by offering culturally grounded strategies for family catechesis based on local narratives, inculturated modules in marriage preparation, and peer learning groups for parents to strengthen policy and program design in multicultural Catholic education.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the form, process, and impact of collaboration between Catholic Religious Education teachers and parents in implementing the Seven Habits of Great Indonesian Children in Catholic elementary schools in Samarinda. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach through a case study design involving eight informants consisting of Catholic Religious Education teachers, the principal, and parents. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, limited participatory observation, and the review of school and church documents. The findings show that collaboration emerges through intensive and directed communication between teachers and parents that supports the alignment of children’s faith formation. Three significant outcomes are highlighted. First, regular communication enables effective coordination in prayer routines and liturgical activities. Second, family involvement in spiritual guidance at home strengthens the consistency of the seven habits. Third, the synergy between school and church yields concrete improvements in students’ spiritual discipline, faith responsibility, and religious character. The study affirms that sustained collaboration between teachers and parents is a strategic foundation for strengthening faith education in Catholic elementary schools.

Abstract

This article aims to examine teacher professionalism as a key factor influencing the quality of learning in Indonesian schools through a targeted literature review spanning 2018 to 2025. The study synthesizes evidence from national and international publications to map trends in policy reforms, training initiatives, certification systems, and learning outcomes. The review highlights four important dimensions of professionalism: pedagogical competence, professional growth, social competence, and personal integrity. These dimensions shape teachers' teaching effectiveness and contribute to student engagement and academic achievement. Findings indicate that policy reforms serve as the most dominant driver for professional improvement, while digital literacy training and development programs strengthen teachers' capacity to respond to contemporary learning demands. Structural barriers such as unequal access to professional development opportunities and limited digital infrastructure remain persistent issues in some regions. This study proposes strategic directions for policies, including mentoring systems, professional learning communities, and technology-enabled development, to foster continuous professional growth and improve the quality of learning across educational contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates the implementation of pedagogical competence among Catholic Religious Education (CRE) teachers at SD Negeri 004 Tering, East Kalimantan. Pedagogical competence serves as a foundation for effective instruction, particularly when integrated with the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach that connects faith-based content to students’ real-life experiences. Using a descriptive qualitative design, data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and document analysis involving one CRE teacher and nine students. The findings indicate that the teacher demonstrates comprehensive pedagogical competence across lesson planning, instructional delivery, and authentic evaluation aligned with the CTL framework. The integrated learning cycle consisting of planning, implementation, and reflection, illustrates how faith values are contextualized through discovery, questioning, and reflective activities. This process cultivates moral awareness, critical thinking, and spiritual sensitivity among students. The study concludes that the pedagogical competence of CRE teachers functions as a transformative medium linking faith teachings with everyday life, embodying the essence of learning by believing within the spirit of the Merdeka Curriculum.
