Abstract

This study explores the relationship between reading interest and critical reading skills among eighth-grade students at SMP Negeri 5 Padangsidimpuan. Utilizing a quantitative research approach, a twenty-item Reading Interest questionnaire and a critical reading skills test were administered to a sample of 30 students. The data collected were analyzed using statistical methods to determine the correlation between the two variables. The findings reveal a significant relationship between reading interest and critical reading skills, indicating that students with higher reading interest tend to exhibit better critical reading abilities. This suggests that fostering a strong interest in reading can enhance students' critical reading skills, making them more adept at analyzing, interpreting, and evaluating texts. The study highlights the importance of engaging teaching methods and diverse reading materials to boost students' interest in reading. Recommendations include the implementation of interactive learning strategies and the promotion of varied literary genres to support the development of students' critical reading skills. Future research should consider a larger sample and more comprehensive assessment tools to further explore these findings.

Abstract

This research investigates the effectiveness of the Cooperative Script Model in improving students' reading comprehension of descriptive texts at SMA Negeri 6 Padangsidimpuan. The study employs a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group, involving 60 tenth-grade students divided equally between experimental and control groups. Data collection utilized pre-tests and post-tests consisting of 25 multiple-choice questions measuring various reading comprehension skills. The experimental group received instruction through the Cooperative Script Model, while the control group was taught using conventional methods. Statistical analysis revealed that students taught using the Cooperative Script Model achieved significantly higher scores (mean=77.50) compared to those taught conventionally (mean=69.50). The t-test results (t=8.782, p<0.05) confirmed a significant difference in reading comprehension between the two groups. These findings demonstrate that the Cooperative Script Model effectively enhances students' descriptive text comprehension by fostering collaborative learning, active engagement, and mutual teaching opportunities. The study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting cooperative learning approaches in English language education.

Abstract

This study examines the critical reading skills of seventh-grade students at SMP N 5 Padangsidimpuan. Using a quantitative descriptive approach, the research assessed 30 students through a critical reading test based on Nurhadi's six aspects of critical reading: remembering explicit facts, interpreting implied meanings, applying concepts, analyzing content, synthesizing content, and evaluating reading material. Results indicate that students demonstrate very good abilities in five aspects, with scores ranging from 80 to 100, particularly excelling in remembering explicit facts (scores of 97-100) and evaluating content (scores of 90-97). However, synthesizing reading content emerged as an area needing improvement, with scores of 70 and 57. The overall average score of 85 places students' critical reading abilities in the "Very Good" category according to Arikunto's rating scale. These findings suggest that while students have developed strong foundations in most aspects of critical reading, targeted instruction in synthesizing information would benefit their comprehensive critical reading development. The study recommends implementing diverse reading materials, collaborative learning activities, and cross-curricular integration of critical reading skills to enhance students' abilities, particularly in synthesizing textual information.

Abstract

This integrative literature review examines the potential synergy between Problem-Based Learning (PBL) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in improving university students’ reading comprehension within language education. Based on 276 selected articles, the analysis highlights three key themes: PBL's role in fostering critical reading, AI's function in personalizing language learning, and the importance of instructional design in linking both approaches. Findings show that while PBL and AI each contribute meaningfully, their integration in language education is rare and lacks systematic application. Major gaps include the absence of tested instructional models, limited evaluation tools, and a shortage of empirical studies in Southeast Asia. The study recommends developing theory-based integrative instructional models and conducting localized research to support effective implementation.

Abstract

Program Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat (PKM) ini dilaksanakan dengan dengan tujuan untuk meningkatkan produksi kerajinan tenun Sidingkat sebagai produk unggulan di Desa Sidingkat, Kecamatan Padang Bolak, Kabupaten Padang Lawas Utara. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan dan pendampingan kepada para pengrajin tenun dalam mengatasi kendala-kendala yang dihadapi, khususnya dalam hal pemasaran dan promosi produk. Metode pelaksanaan PKM dilakukan melalui tahapan persiapan, analisis data, desain materi pelatihan, pelaksanaan, dan evaluasi. Data yang dikumpulkan dianalisis secara deskriptif untuk merancang strategi pelatihan yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan mitra. Selanjutnya, pelatihan Pemasaran dan Promosi dilaksanakan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan pengrajin dalam mengelola pemasaran produk tenun Sidingkat. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan adanya peningkatan produksi kerajinan tenun Sidingkat dan permintaan produk setelah mengikuti pelatihan. Para mitra melaporkan adanya peningkatan popularitas produk mereka di pasaran setelah menerapkan strategi pemasaran dan promosi yang baru. Kesimpulannya, Program PKM ini berhasil memberikan manfaat bagi para mitra dalam mengembangkan industri kerajinan tenun Sidingkat. Keberhasilan ini menegaskan pentingnya peran PKM dalam pemberdayaan masyarakat dan pengembangan potensi lokal. Dukungan dan kerjasama antara akademisi, pemerintah, dan masyarakat menjadi kunci dalam mewujudkan perubahan positif bagi sektor kerajinan dan perekonomian lokal.

Abstract

Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk melaksanakan pelatihan dan sosialisasi mengenai implementasi Sapta Pesona dalam pengembangan destinasi pariwisata di Kota Padangsidimpuan, Sumatera Utara. Melalui program ini, masyarakat lokal diberikan pengetahuan dan keterampilan yang diperlukan untuk mengelola destinasi pariwisata dengan lebih efektif dan berkelanjutan. Selain itu, terjadi sosialisasi yang mendalam mengenai pentingnya melestarikan budaya dan lingkungan dalam konteks pariwisata. Hasil dari pelaksanaan program ini menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan kesadaran masyarakat lokal dalam mengelola dan mempromosikan destinasi pariwisata mereka. Terbentuknya kerjasama yang erat antara masyarakat lokal, pemerintah daerah, dan pihak terkait lainnya juga menjadi salah satu hasil yang penting dari program ini. Dengan demikian, program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini berhasil menciptakan dampak positif dalam pengembangan pariwisata lokal yang berkelanjutan dan berkualitas.

Abstract

This paper describes the effectiveness of the ARCS model approach in improving the critical reading skills of elementary students at the basic process skills level. The research used a pre-experimental design method of one group pretest-posttest type with the research subjects of sixth-grade students at SD Negeri 107397 Cinta Damai in Deli Serdang. Data on students' critical reading skills were collected using a previously validated critical reading test instrument. The research results indicate that applying the ARCS model approach in learning critical reading can improve elementary students’ critical reading skills at the basic process skills level. There is a significant improvement in students' skills to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize the information they read and it provides a basis for developing more effective learning approaches. The implications include the integration of the ARCS model in curriculum design and teacher training as well as further research with larger sample populations and broader contexts. It is expected that the application of the ARCS model can enrich teaching at the primary level and advance students' critical thinking skills.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and evaluate IdentifiKu, a web-based diagnostic assessment platform designed to support differentiated learning within the Kurikulum Merdeka framework in Indonesia. Specifically, the research seeks to bridge the gap in existing assessment platforms that predominantly focus on cognitive dimensions by integrating cognitive and non-cognitive domains—learning styles, personality traits, and multiple intelligences—into a unified scoring model. The platform was developed using a Design and Development Research (DDR) approach combined with the Waterfall Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), encompassing requirements analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and deployment. The architecture adopts a three-tier client–server model, with a Laravel-based application layer and a MySQL database optimized to the third normal form. Performance evaluation involved functional testing and user feedback from twelve teachers across diverse subject areas. Quantitative results indicated that the system met or exceeded all operational benchmarks, including an average page load time of 2.4 seconds, 99.8% uptime, 100% scoring accuracy, and a System Usability Scale (SUS) score of 85.3. Teachers reported that the platform’s comprehensive learner profiles facilitated targeted instructional strategies, improved student engagement, and streamlined assessment processes. This research contributes a scalable, pedagogically aligned model for integrating multidimensional diagnostics into differentiated learning practices, which may be adapted to other educational contexts to enhance data-driven instruction.

Abstract

Abstrak: Perkembangan Kurikulum Merdeka menuntut guru memiliki kompetensi dalam merancang pembelajaran berdiferensiasi berbasis data asesmen diagnostik. Namun, banyak guru masih menghadapi kendala dalam pelaksanaannya. Program Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan meningkatkan kompetensi guru melalui pemanfaatan aplikasi IdentifiKu. Kegiatan dilaksanakan di MTs YPKS Padangsidimpuan dengan peserta 29 guru dan 2 tenaga kependidikan, meliputi sosialisasi, workshop, implementasi kelas pilot, dan evaluasi. Evaluasi dilakukan dengan pre-test dan post-test, observasi, serta angket respon guru, dengan indikator keberhasilan berupa peningkatan pemahaman guru, efisiensi asesmen, akurasi identifikasi kebutuhan belajar, dan respon peserta. Hasil menunjukkan pemahaman guru meningkat dari 37,8% menjadi 68,9%, efisiensi asesmen naik hingga 80% dengan waktu pelaksanaan berkurang dari 3,5 jam menjadi 45 menit per kelas, dan akurasi identifikasi kebutuhan belajar siswa mencapai 92%. Respon guru juga positif, 72,4% menyatakan aplikasi memudahkan pembelajaran berdiferensiasi dan 86% menilai pelatihan bermanfaat. Program ini membuktikan IdentifiKu efektif mendukung implementasi Kurikulum Merdeka.Abstract: The implementation of the Merdeka Curriculum requires teachers to master differentiated learning design based on diagnostic assessments. However, many teachers still face challenges in carrying out such assessments effectively. This Community Service Program aimed to improve teachers’ competence through the use of the IdentifiKu application. The program was conducted at MTs YPKS Padangsidimpuan with 29 teachers and 2 education staff, involving socialization, workshops, pilot class implementation, and evaluation. The evaluation system applied pre-test and post-test, observation, and teacher response questionnaires. Success indicators included teachers’ understanding, efficiency of assessment, accuracy in identifying students’ learning needs, and positive responses. Results showed an increase in teachers’ understanding from 37.8% to 68.9%, assessment efficiency improved by 80% with implementation time reduced from 3.5 hours to 45 minutes per class, and accuracy of identifying students’ learning needs reached 92%. Teacher responses were also positive, with 72.4% acknowledging the application’s support for differentiated learning and 86% rating the training as highly beneficial.
