Abstract

This study explores the role of community participation in local budget making, aiming to develop a model for participatory budgeting that enhances transparency, accountability, and public engagement in fiscal decision-making. Through a mixed-methods approach, the research analyzes the extent and impact of community involvement in local budget processes across various municipalities. The study draws on quantitative data from budgetary records and qualitative insights from interviews with local officials and community members. Findings indicate that increased community participation leads to more equitable and effective budget allocations, aligning public spending with community needs and priorities. The study also identifies barriers to participation, including limited public awareness and institutional resistance. Based on these findings, the study proposes a participatory budgeting model that incorporates structured community input mechanisms, capacity-building initiatives, and policy recommendations to foster greater civic engagement in local budgeting. This model aims to bridge the gap between local governments and their constituents, promoting a more democratic and responsive budgeting process.

Abstract

This study explores the impact of gender inclusion in public governance on local economic empowerment in Indonesia. The main focus of this study is to identify how women's representation in leadership positions and holistic gender inclusion policies affect economic well-being at the local level. The research methods used include quantitative analysis, namely Descriptive statistics analysis, Discriminant Validity (Farnell Larcker Criterion), Reliability Test, Path Analysis, and Research Hypothesis Testing. The results of the study indicate that gender inclusion in public governance has a significant positive impact on local economic empowerment. In addition, women's representation in leadership positions and comprehensive gender inclusion policies contribute more to economic growth than policies focusing on essential participation. Although these results support the theory of the benefits of gender inclusion, policy implementation faces obstacles such as cultural resistance and lack of resources. These findings suggest the need for a more integrated and sustainable approach to maximise the positive impact of gender inclusion policies.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the economic, social, and environmental impacts of the Sidingkat weaving business run by female artisans in Sidingkat Village, Padang Lawas Utara Regency. Additionally, this research formulates strategies that can support the sustainability of the weaving business and enhance the empowerment of women within the local community. The study employs a qualitative case study approach with data analysis following Miles et al.'s (2018) model through four stages: data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data were collected through in-depth interviews using structured questionnaires, direct field observations using observation checklists, and documentation review. The research involved 11 female weavers (100% of active weavers in the village), key stakeholders including local government officials and weaving entrepreneurs, and 30 customers of woven products. The findings show that 81.8% of weavers rely on the business as their primary income source, with 72.7% reporting increased income since joining. In terms of social impact, 100% of weavers experienced increased community recognition, and 81.8% reported greater social involvement. Regarding environmental practices, 63.6% of weavers have adopted eco-friendly materials, while 54.5% implement proper waste management. Customer satisfaction data reveals that 40% rate product quality as excellent, though only 33.3% consider the designs unique. Based on the analysis, several sustainability strategies are proposed, with 100% of weavers identifying access to capital as crucial, 81.8% emphasizing product innovation, and 63.6% highlighting the need for skills training. The study concludes that the Sidingkat weaving business has substantial growth potential if supported by appropriate policies and community backing, while contributing to women's empowerment and SME development in the traditional craft sector.

Abstract

Indonesia's national economy is experiencing stagnant growth in income inequality (Gini ratio) and the number of poor people continues to increase, even though the national GDP growth indicators have been improving for several years. Regional economic growth in South Sumatra also increased based on the GRDP indicator, but the inequality in income distribution increased slightly and the inflation rate in South Sumatra fluctuated greatly in 2007-2017. Furthermore, the farmer's exchange rate, export value, human development index, and interest rate movements in South Sumatra in 2017 decreased compared to 2007, although overall infrastructure development continues to increase every year. This study analyzes income inequality and its implications for poverty in South Sumatra Province. Factors affecting income inequality are limited to farmers' exchange rates, exports, and infrastructure. The research population is all secondary data related to the research object in South Sumatra Province for the period 2007 - 2017. Based on the Multiple Linear Regression analysis using the OLS (Ordinary Least Square) method, the results show that the exchange rate of farmers' rupiah, exports, and infrastructure simultaneously affects income inequality. Then partially the exchange rate of farmers, exports, and infrastructure have a significant effect on income inequality. The novelty of the research lies in the object of research, where there are differences in the phenomena of economic growth and poverty rates between the National and the Province of South Sumatra.

Abstract

Urban poverty continues to show new complexities along with the development of digital technology and rapid social change. Inequality in access to technology has deepened social disparities and marginalized vulnerable groups in the urban ecosystem. On the other hand, conventional social policies are considered not adaptive enough to respond to the dynamics of the needs of the urban poor. This study aims to formulate an innovative digital-based social policy model to combat urban poverty more effectively. This study uses a qualitative approach with data collection through a literature review of various relevant literature. Data are analyzed in depth to find patterns and relationships between elements that contribute to the formulation of digital social policies. The results of the study show that the use of digital technology has great potential in accelerating data collection, increasing public participation, and encouraging policy transparency. Social policy innovations that integrate technology, data, and cross-sector collaboration have proven to be able to respond to structural challenges in the urban policy system. Therefore, the formulated policy model not only offers a more adaptive approach but also becomes a strategic foundation for realizing social justice amidst digital transformation.

Abstract

This study investigates the potential impacts of President Trump’s protectionist policies on Indonesia’s export sector, with a particular focus on national economic resilience. The protectionist stance, which includes elevated tariffs and trade restrictions, has historically influenced global trade dynamics, affecting emerging markets like Indonesia. By conducting an extensive literature review, this paper aims to analyze previous instances of U.S. protectionist policies, particularly under Trump’s administration, and their repercussions on trade partners. The study examines the vulnerability of Indonesia’s key export sectors textiles, electronics, and agriculture and discusses the possible economic consequences, such as reduced GDP growth, increased trade imbalance, and employment risks. Findings from this review reveal that heightened U.S. protectionism could significantly disrupt Indonesia’s export flows, challenging the country’s economic stability. Policy implications underscore the need for Indonesia to diversify its export markets, enhance competitive capacities, and explore alternative economic strategies. This paper provides a comprehensive perspective on the indirect effects of U.S. economic policies on Indonesia, contributing valuable insights to policymakers and stakeholders preparing for future trade uncertainties.
