Abstract

Two-tier multiple-choice (2TMC) has been introduced as an instrument to analyze a conceptual understanding at tier 1 and reasoning to the answer at tier 2. Even there are many studies on using the instrument; there is still relatively little attention on scoring method. Therefore, this study aimed to compare difficulties and to see if there is a correlation between responses at the phenomenon and reasoning tier. The instrument namely representational systems and chemical reaction diagnostic instrument (RSCRDI) containing 15 items were translated into Indonesian language and validity and reliability of the instrument were established. RSCRDI was tested with 185 pre-service chemistry teachers (19 males and 166 females). Their raw data were converted into logit, and it was found that the phenomenon tier was slightly more difficult. Based on Pearson correlation test, it is found that the phenomenon tier and reasoning tier were significantly correlated, r=.362, p-value <0.001.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the absorption of water detergent waste using water spinach (ipomoea aquatica). This experimental study used a randomized block design. Water samples were planted with water plants according to the research design. Detergent concentrations were observed using the MBAS (Methylene Blue Active Substance) method. The results showed that water spinach was able to reduce the detergent concentration and improve the concentration of water quality parameters (DO, BOD, and COD). After the treatment of water kangkong, the ability to absorb detergent was seen with a decrease in detergent levels until day 28 of 54.17%. The highest detergent absorption on days 7 and 14.

Abstract

Artikel ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis tentang kemampuan self efficacy mahasiswa pada mata kuliah Biologi Sel. didasarkan atas data empiris yang dikumpulkan dari mahasiswa pendidikan Biologi di Universitas Sulawesi Barat. Analisis dari 30 kuesioner mengungkapkan berbagai perbedaan berdasarkan tingkat pengalaman. Selanjutnya data yang diperoleh diolah dengan menggunakan statistik deskriptif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara umum pada dimensi magnitudo/level (tingkat kesulitan tugas) sebagai perwujudan seberapa besar optimisme mahasiswa pada keberhasilan (65,33%), kemampuan mahasiswa dalam penyesuaian diri terhadap tugas yang sulit (66,70%), kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menghindari situasi dan perilaku yang melampaui batas kemampuan (77,35%); dimensi strength (kemantapan keyakinan dan harapan) meliputi kemampuan dalam mempertahankan (59,70%), keuletan (76,7%); dimensi generality (keragaman dan luas bidang perilaku) meliputi kemampuan kognitif (66%), kemampuan afektif (84,70%) dan kemampuan psikomotik (56,70%).

Abstract

The current study aimed to assess the validity of the engagement instrument during online learning in mathematics education. This study used a survey research design as its approach. The current research participants were 203 Generation Z students in West Nusa Tenggara Barat, Indonesia. Convenience sampling techniques were used to assess who had completed the online survey. Three procedures were used to analyze the data in this research: exploratory factor analysis (EFA), confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), and Rasch analysis. EFA revealed that the online engagement instrument had two sub-components: behavioral engagement and emotional engagement. At the same time, the CFA results showed that the model fit indices established the first- and second-order model's two-factor structure. Finally, the results showed that the online engagement instrument’s item and person reliability were good. The findings indicate a potential for enhancement even though the Rasch analysis largely supported the results of EFA and CFA. The current research’s novelty is that it provides a valid and reliable instrument to assess student`s engagement during online learning in a mathematical education context. Using the current instrument can ensure the accuracy, reliability, and credibility of research on student engagement during online learning in mathematics education.

Abstract

Scientific experiments provide numerous benefits for school students, including enhancing their understanding of scientific concepts through hands-on experiences. By engaging in experiments, students can develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and data analysis skills. This study aims to analyze the role of ChatGPT in relation to science practicum activities. The study employs a systematic literature review method using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) framework. Data sources consist of scientific journals that were identified, screened, and evaluated, resulting in only seven journals meeting the inclusion criteria. These journals were then reviewed through thematic analysis to outline the key findings from the analyzed publications. The results show that the majority of the reviewed articles (85.71%) were published in the Journal of Chemical Education, with a focus on the field of chemistry (85.71%), and 57.14% of the first authors originated from the United States. Two main research themes were identified in this field: ChatGPT as a tool to assist teachers in preparing practicum sessions and analyzing ChatGPT’s ability to generate reports. The study also highlights opportunities for further research on ChatGPT’s capability to analyze practicum reports and evaluate practicum worksheet responses. This study provides a foundation for future researchers to identify topics and research gaps in the field.

Abstract

Misconceptions can significantly hinder the learning process. To address this, various diagnostic instruments such as two-tier (2TMC), three-tier, and four-tier multiple-choice questions have been introduced. However, as the number of tiers increases, identifying misconceptions becomes more complex. Therefore, this study employs the Item Option Characteristics Curve (IOCC) to identify misconceptions by calculating the probability of each option being selected. The Representational Systems and Chemical Reactions Diagnostic Instrument (RSCRDI) was administered to 185 pre-service teachers across three universities in Indonesia. The data was analyzed using Winstep software to generate the IOCC for each item. The analysis revealed that each item in the phenomenon and reasoning tiers contains distractors that could interfere with the option selected by pre-service chemistry teachers. While the alternative answers identified using traditional methods (commonly used since the introduction of 2TMC) were mostly similar to those identified by IOCC, the IOCC provided more detailed insights. Specifically, it highlighted unexpected curves after 0 logits, identified less effective distractors, and revealed inconsistencies in the most influential distractors. These findings suggest that the IOCC provides richer, more detailed information and can be a valuable alternative framework for analyzing 2TMC items to unfold misconceptions.

Abstract

Revolusi teknologi telah membawa Artificial Intelligence (AI) khususnya ChatGPT menjadi alat potensial dalam pendidikan termasuk Fisika meski penggunaannya masih baru. ChatGPT dapat membantu menjelaskan konsep sulit, namun akurasi informasinya masih dipertanyakan. Kajian literatur diperlukan untuk mengetahui sejauh mana ChatGPT telah berkontribusi dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran Fisika. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui distribusi jurnal, asal negara penulis, dan tema penelitian terkait ChatGPT dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran Fisika. Penelitian ini menggunakan PRISMA framework yang memiliki tahapan 1) identifikasi, 2) penyaringan dengan memperhatikan kriteria inklusi dan ekslusi, dan 3) analisis data untuk menentukan tema penelitian. Distribusi jurnal menunjukkan dominasi Physical Review Physics Education Research (41,67%), dengan penulis mayoritas berasal dari Eropa (66,67%). ChatGPT memiliki banyak manfaat dalam pengajaran dan pembelajaran fisika antara lain dalam persiapan pengajaran, proses pembelajaran, asesmen pembelajaran, dan dalam praktikum. Hasil penelitian juga menunjukkan kemampuan ChatGPT dalam menyelesaikan berbagai soal fisika secara teoritis dan konseptual. Penelitian ini menyajikan informasi penting bagi penelitian pendidikan fisika dan pelaksanaan pengajaran fisika.

Abstract

Writing skills are essential for students to develop from an early age. Writing not only serves as a medium for expressing ideas, opinions, or thoughts, but also functions as a tool to train critical, systematic, and logical thinking. A lack of interest and skill in writing can have negative consequences. Students who are not accustomed to writing may struggle when asked to prepare reports, write essays, or face written exams that require structured argumentation and explanation. Training in academic writing is crucial, especially for junior high school students. This community service activity was carried out in three stages: preparation, implementation, and evaluation. Questionnaire results showed that the academic writing training received a positive response, particularly in terms of enjoyment, usefulness, and student motivation. However, challenges remain in terms of material comprehension, active participation, and self-confidence, which should be addressed through more practical and interactive learning methods in future programs.

Abstract

Desa Tubo Tengah, Kecamatan Tubo Sendana, Kabupaten Majene, merupakan wilayah dengan mayoritas penduduk sebagai peternak sapi dan kambing. Minimnya pengetahuan peternak mengenai manajemen kesehatan ternak menyebabkan tingginya risiko penyakit dan rendahnya produktivitas. Kegiatan ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman peternak terkait biosekuriti, pengendalian penyakit, sanitasi kandang, serta manajemen pakan sehat. Sosialisasi dilaksanakan pada 14 Februari 2025 di Aula Desa Tubo Tengah, melibatkan 21 peternak. Metode yang digunakan meliputi ceramah interaktif dan diskusi partisipatif. Evaluasi dilakukan dengan pre-test dan post-test. Hasil menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan: skor rata-rata naik dari 2,24 menjadi 4,71 (+41,27%) dan tingkat kelulusan meningkat dari 23,81% menjadi 95,24%. Temuan menunjukkan lemahnya penerapan biosekuriti serta kurangnya pemahaman tentang risiko zoonosis. Direkomendasikan penguatan edukasi berkelanjutan, integrasi protokol biosekuriti dalam praktik harian, peningkatan kolaborasi dengan layanan kesehatan hewan, dan replikasi program di wilayah serupa. Strategi ini diharapkan dapat memperkuat ketahanan pangan berbasis masyarakat dan keberlanjutan sektor peternakan rakyat.

Abstract

This study aims to validate the instrument to measure Gen-Z Pre-service Science Teacher Virtual Lab Acceptance and Use using Rasch model. This study is quantitative survey design with 83 participants from science education major in a new public university in Sulawesi. Instrument of the study is adopted which developed based on the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 and the Theory of Planned Behavior. Students are requested to fill up the questionnaire after experimenting basic chemistry courses using pHET virtual laboratory. The instrument has satisfactory reliability (person reliability 0.95, item reliability 0.78 and Cronbach alpha 0.98), separation (person separation 4.32 and item separation 1.68). All item are accepted based on the suitability of item fit statistics by referring to mean square, Z tolerated standard, and point measure correlation. Based on its unidimensionality, the instrument can explained 57.7% variance from item variance 22.7% and person variance 30%. Based on the findings that the instrument is valid and reliable to measure science teacher virtual lab acceptance and use. The findings suggest that validated instruments for measuring virtual lab acceptance can guide educators and policymakers in effectively integrating technology into science teacher training programs, ultimately enhancing educational practices and outcomes.
