Abstract

Infectious disorders known as sexually transmitted infections (STIs) are spread through sexual contact. Female sex workers (FSWs) are particularly vulnerable to STIs. As of right now, FSWs' STI prevention practices are still insufficient. This is brought on by ignorance of STIs and failure to use condoms during sexual activity. This study's goal is to use the ADDIE Model to create a board game that educates female sex workers about sexually transmitted infections; Methods:  This research employed a research and development (R&D) approach utilizing the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. In the analysis stage, needs assessment was conducted to determine gaps in existing STI health promotion efforts. In the design stage, a board game concept was created tailored to FSW characteristics. During development, the board game was produced and subjected to feasibility testing for both media and content. The implementation stage involved a media trial with selected participants, and the evaluation stage focused on assessing the practicality and effectiveness of the game; Results: The analysis showed that FSWs had limited knowledge of STIs, and existing health promotion methods were not sufficiently interactive or engaging. The developed board game achieved a media feasibility score of 92% and a content feasibility score of 85%, indicating high practicality without the need for major revisions. During the implementation phase, 15 FSWs participated in a trial, with 93% reporting the game was practical and engaging; Conclusions: The conclusion of this study is that using board games as a health promotion medium is very feasible for FSW to increase their knowledge about STIs because they are more interactive, enjoyable, new, and the information is relevant to what FSWs need to know.

Abstract

Drug abuse remains a serious public health issue, particularly in the rehabilitation process which demands high commitment from residents. This community service aimed to enhance the motivation and engagement of residents at the Banyuwangi Rehabilitation and Prevention Center (LRPPN) through an edutainment-based approach. Activities included educational games, arts, music, and the signing of an Integrity Pact. This method was tailored to the characteristics of residents who often exhibit low motivation, poor self-esteem, and limited social communication skills. The results indicated that edutainment was effective in creating a positive atmosphere, encouraging active participation, and fostering personal reflection and commitment to a drug-free life. Furthermore, this activity served as a valuable experiential learning opportunity for health promotion students to apply their skills directly in the field. This program is recommended as an alternative, humanistic, and participatory strategy to support successful rehabilitation outcomes.

Abstract

The implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (PHBS) is essential for establishing positive habits across a university campus. However, PHBS within the campus environment is often neglected. A significant portion of the academic community has not yet fully adopted these behaviors, as evidenced by practices such as smoking on campus, consuming unhealthy food and beverages, and indiscriminate spitting. This situation is likely due to various factors, including a lack of knowledge about PHBS, insufficient outreach, and inadequate facilities. Poor adherence to PHBS can lead to infectious diseases like eye infections, diarrhea, anemia, and helminthiasis. One effective method to enhance the knowledge and awareness of PHBS among the academic community is through various information media, such as online magazines or e-magazines. Hema-Magz (Healthy Motion Magazine) is an e-magazine development containing information about PHBS on campus. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Hema-Magz media on respondents' knowledge before and after the intervention. This research employed a quantitative design with a pretest-posttest approach, involving 15 respondents from the Tefa House of Health Promotion academic community. The research instrument consisted of 10 questions related to PHBS. The collected data were analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The results indicated an increase in the average knowledge score from 76.6% to 88.4%. Furthermore, the paired sample t-test yielded a p-value of 0.024, signifying a statistically significant difference in knowledge before and after using Hema-Magz. This media is effective in improving knowledge by offering engaging and interactive content. Further development into a mobile application is recommended to achieve a broader reach.

Abstract

Modern dietary patterns have increased children’s consumption of processed foods containing food additives, namely preservatives, flavor enhancers, sweeteners, and colorants (4Ps), which may increase the risk of degenerative diseases in the future. Although many studies discuss unhealthy food consumption among children, limited educational media specifically address food additives in a form that is engaging and suitable for elementary school students. This study aimed to fill this gap by developing an animated educational video on 4P foods as an innovative medium for school-based health promotion. This study used a Research and Development (R&D) approach with the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) and applied a pre-test–post-test design to evaluate its effectiveness. The developed animation was validated by media and material experts and then tested on 23 elementary school students to assess feasibility, acceptance, and knowledge improvement. The results showed that the animation was highly feasible and well accepted by students. Students reported that the video was interesting, easy to understand, and helpful in learning about healthy food choices. After watching the video, students’ knowledge about food additives increased compared to before the intervention, indicating that the animation effectively supported learning. This study demonstrates that animated educational media can be an effective and practical tool for school health promotion, helping teachers deliver health messages in an engaging way and supporting early prevention of unhealthy eating habits among children.

Abstract

Complete Basic Immunization (CBI) coverage refers to the percentage of children who have received all scheduled basic immunizations according to the national program, usually before 12 months of age. Cumulative CBI coverage in Jember Regency as of July 2025 remains low, reaching only 39.76% of the target. This study aimed to analyze the low CBI coverage and the high proportion of Zero Dose (ZD) children as key determinants of Extraordinary Events (Outbreaks) of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (VPDs) in Jember Regency, and to evaluate the effectiveness of catch-up immunization interventions. A descriptive-analytical approach was employed using secondary immunization program data from Jember Regency between January 2024 and July/August 2025, obtained from the local Health Office.  Epidemiological analysis revealed suspected and confirmed cases of diphtheria and measles-rubella (MR), including the declaration of a measles outbreak in seven community health centers (Puskesmas) in 2025. Low coverage was influenced by a complex set of risk factors, including vaccine hesitancy among families and structural challenges. Catch-up immunization was a critical strategy to close immunity gaps, with 1,129 children immunized with DPT-HB Hib as of August 2024, from a target population of 3,464. These findings highlight the need for integrated interventions targeting the root causes of vaccine hesitancy, improving tracking of migrant children, and optimizing cross-sectoral collaboration to achieve herd immunity and the elimination of VPDs.

Abstract

Drug abuse among adolescents remains a critical public health concern, especially in coastal areas with socioeconomic challenges and limited parental supervision. This study aimed to explore the predisposing factors influencing adolescents’ behavior against drug abuse, focusing on knowledge, beliefs, and cultural perceptions. This study used predisposing factors as the main variable based on the PRECEDE–PROCEED theory. A qualitative phenomenological approach was conducted involving five junior high school students (Grades VII–IX) from a coastal school in Jember, with inclusion criteria ever used drugs, willingness to participate as respondents, and the ability to communicate effectively. The participants were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document reviews, and analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). Results showed that adolescents possessed limited and often inaccurate knowledge, mostly obtained from peers. Although they recognized religious prohibitions, moral beliefs were weakly internalized and failed to prevent substance use. Cultural normalization of smoking, alcohol, and drug availability reinforced permissive attitudes. This study concludes that knowledge, beliefs, and cultural perceptions influence drug abuse behavior among coastal adolescents in Jember. Although these adolescents are aware of the dangers of drugs, their limited understanding, weak internalization of religious and moral values, and permissive cultural norms make them more vulnerable. Furthermore, a peer-dominated environment and the easy accessibility of drugs further exacerbate the problem.

Abstract

Anemia is a condition where the level of HB or hemoglobin in the blood is less than the normal standard. Based on the 2018 Riskesdas data, the prevalence of anemia in women aged ≥15 years (adolescent girls) was 41.6% while the prevalence of anemia in pregnant women was 48.9%. This figure has increased from 31% in 2013. Adolescent girls who suffer from anemia are at risk of anemia during pregnancy which will potentially increase stunting rates. The impact of anemia on adolescent girls is stunted growth, easily infected, decreased academic achievement, becoming a high-risk prospective mother for pregnancy and childbirth. Anemia that occurs in women of childbearing age is a challenge in the field of reproductive health nutrition. With the development of technology in this day and age, it is certainly unfortunate if it is not used to provide positive values to the community. Therefore, the development of the AnemiaGo application for early detection of anemia is very important. This is done to increase public awareness about anemia and reduce the incidence of anemia early. The method used in this community service is planning and implementing activities consisting of introductions, counseling by providing education and training, giving Blood Additive Tablets (TTD) and assessing by giving pretest and posttest questionnaires. The results obtained from this activity are an increase in knowledge and attitudes in adolescents and WUS.

Abstract

Background: School snacks remain a public health concern because some products do not meet food safety standards and may contain unsafe food additives. Limited student knowledge regarding preservatives, colorants, sweeteners, and flavor enhancers increases the risk of unhealthy snack consumption. Purpose: This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of animated health education videos in improving elementary school students’ knowledge of food additives. Methods: A pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-test and post-test approach was conducted among 23 fifth-grade students selected through purposive sampling at SDN Karangrejo 6 in 2025. A structured knowledge questionnaire was administered before and after the animated video intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test with a significance level of 0.05. Results: The proportion of students with good knowledge increased from 43% to 61%, while the proportion in the poor knowledge category decreased from 35% to 13%. Statistical analysis showed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores (p = 0.004). Conclusion: Animated video media is effective in improving students’ knowledge of food additives and is recommended as an innovative school-based health education strategy to strengthen food safety literacy from an early age.
