Abstract

The food management facilities in Padang had not yet reached the target achievement of an 87% food hygiene and sanitation rate; they had only reached 72%. The food management facilities in the Pauh Primary Health Care working area were the lowest in food hygiene and sanitation standards in Padang. Contamination in food and beverages could become a means of disease transmission, one of which was through food handlers. The aim of this study was to determine the factors associated with the implementation of food hygiene and sanitation in restaurants within the Pauh Primary Health Care working area in Padang. This research was of a quantitative study with an analytical approach and a cross-sectional study design. The study was conducted from March to July 2023. The research population consisted of all 230 food handlers. A sample of 87 food handlers was taken using the accidental sampling technique, utilizing questionnaires and observation sheets. Data analysis was carried out using univariate and bivariate analysis. The research findings showed that 48.3% of food handlers had a poor implementation of food hygiene and sanitation, 49.4% had low levels of knowledge, 49.4% had inadequate sanitation facilities, and 70.1% were poorly supervised by sanitation personnel. Based on bivariate analysis, there was a significant relationship between the availability of sanitation facilities (p=0.001) and the supervision of sanitation personnel (p=0.000) with the implementation of food hygiene and sanitation. Additionally, there was no relationship between the level of knowledge and the implementation of food hygiene and sanitation (p=0.589). The implementation of food hygiene and sanitation was influenced by several factors, namely the availability of sanitation facilities and the supervision of sanitation personnel. It was recommended for food handlers to practice personal hygiene, for restaurant owners to provide adequate sanitation facilities, and for the Pauh Primary Health Care to enhance supervision and increase awareness about food hygiene and sanitation.

Abstract

ARI cases dominate globally morbidity and mortality rates. ARI prevalence is increasing annually in the Padang city. This study aims to determine the determinants of the incidence of ARI in the Pauh Public Health Center. A quantitative study using a cross-sectional design was used. From October to December 2022, 141 mothers having children under five years took part in this study. Purposive sampling was used to collect the sample. Data was gathered using a structured questionnaire and analyzed univariately and bivariate using the chi-square test. The results showed that 64.5% of mothers were at risk, and more than half were at low educational and economic levels (71,6%) and (51,1%). There is a significant relationship between smoking habits (p=0.00; PR=1.53), immunization status (p=0.00; PR=1.80), and level of mother’s knowledge (p=0 .00; PR=1.68) with the incidence of ARI in children under five years. ARI in children under five years was significantly associated with smoking habits, immunization status and mother’s knowledges. It is hoped that family members, especially parents, will be more involved in their children's health and development, and that health workers can regularly educate the public about maternal and child health, especially ARI prevention, through various media and activate health cadres.

Abstract

Baby blues syndrome, while often considered mild and self-limiting, may increase the risk of postpartum depression if left unrecognized. This study aimed to examine the association between baby blues and the incidence of depression in postpartum women. This cross- sectional study was conducted at Mutiara Bunda Hospital, Padang City, from June to November 2024. A total of 178 postpartum women were selected using simple random sampling. The inclusion criteria were women 4–6 weeks postpartum. Women with a history of psychiatric illness, current use of psychotropic medication, major obstetric complications, or neonatal death were excluded. Baby blues syndrome and postpartum depression were assessed using the Kennerley–Gath Maternity Blues Questionnaire (KBQ) and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS). Data were analyzed using the chi-square test. Of 178 participants, 95 (53.4%) experienced baby blues and 49 (27.5%) were identified as having postpartum depression. Among those with baby blues, 38.9% developed postpartum depression, compared to 14.5% among those without baby blues. Chi-square analysis revealed a significant association between baby blues and postpartum depression (p < .001). The findings indicate that baby blues syndrome is significantly associated with an increased risk of postpartum depression. Early identification and monitoring of baby blues are critical in preventing the progression to more severe maternal mental health disorders. Integrating baby blues screening into routine postpartum care may improve mental health outcomes in maternal health services.

Abstract

This research explores how Islamic philanthropy, through instruments such as zakat, waqf, and sadaqah, holds great potential for improving access to healthcare services in developing countries, including those in South Asia. This study focuses on the application of Islamic philanthropy in the healthcare sector in Sri Lanka and Nepal, two countries with significant challenges in providing adequate healthcare services to the poor and marginalized communities. Although the majority of the populations in both countries are not Muslim, Islamic philanthropic institutions have made significant contributions to supporting the local healthcare systems. This research adopts a literature review approach to analyze various sources discussing the role of Islamic philanthropy in healthcare, as well as the challenges faced in its implementation in predominantly non-Muslim countries. The study identifies how zakat, waqf, and sadaqah can be utilized to fund healthcare facilities, community health programs, and more affordable medical services. Additionally, the research examines the importance of technology, particularly social media, in raising awareness and increasing public participation in healthcare philanthropy activities. Digital campaigns can extend reach and stir public interest in contributing. Transparency and accountability in the management of philanthropic funds are critical elements to ensure the sustainability and long-term impact of these health initiatives. By developing collaborations between philanthropic institutions, the government, and the private sector, Islamic philanthropy can become a more inclusive and effective solution for improving healthcare systems in Sri Lanka, Nepal, and other South Asian countries.

Abstract

R is a programming language, open-source, developed by various of the world's most active statisticians with powerful function and visualization for data analysis from simple to complex data such as machine learning and artificial intelligence. Data visualization technologies have the ability to assist public health professionals with decision-making. Visualization appears to help decision making by increasing the quantity of information communicated and reducing the cognitive and intellectual strain of processing information. There are numerous commercially available statistical software packages that are widely utilized by epidemiologists worldwide. For industrialized nations, the price of software is not a significant issue. However, for underdeveloped nations, the true expenses are frequently excessive. Some academics in developing nations rely on software that has been illegally copied a copy of the software program. There are several benefits to using R, including the possibility of using software packages for free (open source) and the volume and availability of software packages. It is simple to retain and repeat commands on the same data analysis with multiple data frames, facilitating the work of health monitoring officers who frequently analyze data with similar variables but at different times.
