Abstract

Abstract: Indonesia has hundreds of local languages, and Javanese and Madurese are parts of them. Jawa and Madura places where those two languages are belong to, are close. This is the reason those two languages influenced each other. These two languages have similar level of language in case of politeness. This study was aimed to answer the following question what the similarities and differences of surface structure in basic sentence between Javanese and Madurese are. This study was conducted in form of qualitative approaches, documents analysis. The data of this study is basic sentences which found in data source, and it must be comparable each other. The result of this study were Madurese and Javanese have similarities in their sentences pattern, while the differences could be found on In forming a question Javanese can be preceded by predicate but it is ended by word “a”. Whereas in Madurese, there is no any ending words to show that a sentence is an interrogative sentence. Keywords: contrastive analysis, surface structure, Javanese and Madurese

Abstract

Politeness is a way to convey expressions smoothly, nicely and politely in verbal communication. Politeness is also required to be carried out in official forums such as the learning and teaching process in the classroom. In this case, the researcher is interested and raises the title of violation from the maxim of politeness in language teaching and learning interactions in the seventh semester students. The purpose of this study is to describe objectively the politeness maxims violated by teacher or students in the class interaction. This research is a qualitative research and the source of data in this study is in the form of conversations between students and teachers that have been copied or converted into written form. Based on the data analysis, it can be concluded that the deviation of politeness maxims in teaching and learning interactions occurs in all politeness maxims, namely the maxim of wisdom, maxim of generosity, maxim of praise, maxim of humility, maxim of agreement, and maxim of sympathy. The maxim that most violated appear in wisdom maxim, generosity maxim, agreement maxim, and sympathy maxim with three violation of each. While the violation that occurs the least is the maxim of humility which only appears once. Violations from these maxims occur due to various behaviors, such as giving harm to others, having bad thoughts, criticizing and putting others down, self-effacing, and showing antipathy towards others..

Abstract

Enriching vocabulary looks easy, but it is possible that students encounter difficulties in enriching vocabulary. The purpose of this study is to find out the difficulties faced by students in enriching vocabulary, and also to investigate what strategy can be applied to overcome those difficulties. Researcher used qualitative-descriptive method as method in describing the data by applying three methods and the instruments. They are observation, interview, and documentation. The result of study showed students complained about pronunciation, unfamiliar words, and memorize as their difficulties in enriching vocabulary. While techniques to overcome that difficulties, they are word list and song that is applied by students and modification of memorize that is applied by teacher. Students are expected to manage the way of learning, and also what will they do to avoid the possibility of difficulties they can face.

Abstract

This research study aims to explore the relationship between listening proficiency and speaking improvement among university students and to identify considerations in assessing speaking and listening skills. The study employed a mixed-methods approach, including both quantitative measures and qualitative interviews, to gather comprehensive data. The findings indicate a significant positive correlation between listening proficiency and speaking improvement, suggesting that developing strong listening skills can contribute to enhanced speaking abilities. Furthermore, the study highlights several key considerations that should be taken to account when assessing speaking and listening in educational contexts. The results of this study have implications for defining the foundations of future research in English teaching methodologies and strategies, and the second language assessment process for speaking and listening skills.

Abstract

Permasalahan guru-guru di pondok pesanten darussalam yaitu belum memahami sepenuhnya model pembelajaran interaktif salah satunya yaitu project based learning yang mampu memberdayakan kemampuan berpikir- kritis dan kreatif siswa. Oleh karena itu, guru perlu memperoleh informasi (melalui pelatihan) mengenai project based learning yang mampu membuat siswa berpikir kritis dan kreatif. Project Based Learning adalah metode pembelajaran yang dapat diterapkan pada semua jenjang pendidikan. Sebelum pelaksanaan pelatihan, tim PKM akan memberitahu dan meminta izin kepada Kepala sekolah untuk mengadakan kegiatan PkM. Selanjutnya, tim bersama Kepala sekolah berkoordinasi terkait penjadwalan pelatihan. Tempat pelatihan ini akan dilaksanakan di aula pondok pesantren darussalam. Jumlah peserta pelatihan ini ditargetkan sebanyak 18 orang. Selanjutnya, pelatihan ini akan menerapkan pelatihan aktif dimana seluruh peserta pelatihan dapat belajar melalui pengalamannya sehingga tujuan yang telah direncanakan dapat diperoleh secara optimal. Metode yang digunakan dalam pelatihan ini adalah ceramah, tanya jawab, diskusi, demonstrasi, dan pemberian tugas. Berdasarkan hasil pretes dan postes diperoleh skor yang meningkat sehingga dapat dikatakan kemampuan peserta pelatihan terlihat meningkat. Dengan demikian, pelatihan ini dapat dikatakan berhasil menambah pengetahuan peserta terkait dengan model pembelajaran project based learning.

Abstract

Learning media can stimulate students to remember what they have learned. Currently, technology sophistication delivers information and knowledge quickly. This has a big impact on educational progress. However, based on observations and interviews with the Principal of  SDN Tamberu 1, information was obtained that most teachers were unable to use technology wisely even though the school had 6 laptop units,  wifi to support the learning process. Technology is only limited on telephone, WhatsApp, or other applications such as TikTok. The partner problems is the lack of teacher competence and the use of technology-based learning media. The aim of this service is to provide solutions and assistance in creating technology-based media, especially at SDN Tamberu 1 Pamekasan. Abstract

Blended learning, which is mostly used in higher education, is introduced to Elementary Schools teachers through teaching and learning English. This study aimed at exploring the teachers’ responses on their attitudes towards the implementation of blended learning as an interactional teaching and learning tool in English course. Observation, questionnaire, and interview were given to 24 elementary school teachers who are also students of English in Open University. The result showed around 45.8% of them have already had PC or laptop and only 8.2% really have problem in internet connection. Further, 50% of teachers stated that rotation blended learning is ease their teaching and learning.

Abstract

Writing is one of important skill in language learning, which needs extra attention to be mastery and desired proficiency. In fact, this skill is still minimally touched, especially for teaching writing using media.Thisstudy is aimed to find the effectiveness using card sort as media in teaching writing at SMP Maarif 10 Pamekasan. Card sort is alternative media for assist students in teaching writing. This research method is a quasi-experimental design with Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The results found that in the experimental class the proportion score was higher than in the control class. There is a significant effect of the use of card sort as media in teaching writing. It can be concluded that there is a difference in the average score of students’ writing ability scores between teacher teaches writing with card sort and teacher teaches writing without card sort. The main thing is increasing students writing skills because writing paragraph using card sort media can attract students’ enthusiasm for learning.
