This research aims to investigate junior high school students’ sustainability literacy in science learning at environmentally based schools and non-environmentally based schools. This research is quantitative and uses a survey method. The participants are 902 students from three non-environmentally oriented school-based junior high schools and three environmentally oriented school-based junior high schools in West Java. Research data were gathered via a survey questionnaire comprising 25 closed-ended statements and 2 open-ended questions, both of which were valid and reliable. Data analysis of closed statements using the RASCH model by categorizing sustainability literacy using a logit value person (LVP) design. The data analysis of open-ended questions uses Voyant Tools, a website that can digitally read and analyze text. The results showed that students' sustainability literacy in both types of schools was moderate, with averages of 77.2 and 76.9. The highest scoring aspect is awareness of environmentally friendly practices. In contrast, the lowest aspect is waste management habits, and the aspect that students in environmentally school-based settings have, with lower levels than in non-environmentally school-based settings, is environmental action and advocacy for sustainable practices. This research highlighted that junior high school students’ sustainability literacy profiles are still in the moderate category across both school categories and need improvement. Abstract

The low level of students' mathematical ability requires a transformation of learning that emphasizes contextual understanding and application, one of which is through the integration of local wisdom into culturally responsive teaching.Assessment The research aim is to investigate how culturally responsive teaching (CRT) approach could enhance students’ creative thinking skills in elementary school. The method that is used is quantitative, quasi-experimental design with 52 fifth-grader students as subject, 26 students in each class. The classes are devided into experimental class (with CRT approach) and control class (without CRT approach). The creative thinking of students is tested by the 10 essays wit four aspects, namely fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. Data were analyze by RASCH model approach to described person ability and differential item functioning to describe is there any influence between creative thinking and students’ ethnicity. The results show that students’ creative thinking in experimental class is improve rather than in control class. However, the fluency and flexibility aspect of students is well improved rather than originality and elaboration aspect which needs improvement. The students’ ethnicity has influence to their creative thinking, which other ethnicity outside Sundanese has high fluctuation in positive way. It could be concluded that culturally responsive teaching (CRT) can enhance students’ creative thinking skills and students’ ethnicity or cultural background influence their creative thinking skills.

Abstract

The development of e-books related to low-carbon education (LCE) has been used to enhance sustainability literacy and global character diversity (GCD) among elementary students. The research was conducted to identify the three themes of e-books available to students in phases A, B, and C. The three e-books have developed into a supplementary, ongoing curriculum. The e-books with flip mode and a high validity index have already been implemented and researched using a pre-experimental design in each phase. The e-books were designed as picture stories, equipped with various features to train students’ sustainability literacy and GCD through invitations to think critically, to complete projects, and to express their thinking related to the context and environmental problems. The validity of the e-books was ensured through validation by 5 experts and 20 users, and the data were analyzed using simple statistics and CVI/CVR indexes. The sustainability literacy instrument used was developed and implemented together in the context of learning in Indonesia and Japan (Kitakyushu), with some modifications tailored to each phase. Students' GCD was monitored using a standard questionnaire based on GCD indicators. The research shows that all the e-books have high usability, as indicated by the CVI/CVR scores. The implementation results show, on average, an increase in students’ sustainability literacy from moderate to high. The improvement in students’ GCD was from the moderate to the high category. In addition, the books, attractively packaged with cartoon images, were easy to use with an Android app and very handy, which made the learning experience enjoyable for students.
