Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the antibacterial activity of Azadirachta indica flower essential oil and its liquid soap formulation against P. acnes bacteria and to determine the quality of the liquid soap formulation. The essential oil of A. indica flower was obtained by the enfleuration method, the yield was a concentrated yellow essential oil with a yield of 2.151%, a density of 0.892 g/mL, solubility in ethanol 90%, 1:1, clear; and a refractive index of 1.435 which complies with the Indonesian National Standard (SNI). Furthermore, essential oils are formulated into liquid soap preparations and tested for physical quality and antibacterial activity. The liquid soap formulation had a distinctive odor of A. indica flowers, and homogen. The antibacterial activity against P. acnes bacteria, was the inhibitory value of A. indica flower liquid soap was higher than A. indica flower essential oil with the highest liquid soap inhibition power of 52%, while the inhibitory power of essential oil was 51% with each concentration of 2.5%, which was compared to its positive control, namely chloramphenicol. The quality testing of liquid soap is accordance with SNI 06-4085-1996, pH values ranging from 8.48 9.67 meet SNI (8-11), viscosity values ranging from 1504.4 cP 2369.7 cP meet SNI (400-4000 cPs), and foam height values ranging from 7.1 cm 8.3 cm. The results of the GC MS analysis of A. indica essential oil showed that the dominant compound was -Copaene (15.84%).

Abstract

Abstract. The aims of this study were to determine the potential for acute oral toxicity of ethanolic extract of A.squamosa leaves with LD50 and the histopathological changes in liver and kidney of mice. This research used experimental method as per fixed dose method. The number of animals used in this research were 20 female mice. The study was divided into 2 steps, there were sighting and main studies. The control group was given Na-CMC 0.5%, the treatment groups were given ethanolic extract of A.squamosa leaves with doses of 5, 50, 300, 2,000 and 5,000 mg/kg bw. The results showed that the ethanolic extract of A.squamosa leaves with doses of 2,000 and 5,000 mg/kg bw did not show any toxicity signs. At a dose of 5,000 mg/kg bw caused hydropic degeneration, necrosis hepatocyte, glomerular atrophy, and tubular dilatation. There was no mortality was observed. It was estimated that LD50 of ethanolic extract of A.squamosa leaves was higher than 5,000 mg/kg bw and the extract were practically non-toxic. Abstract

Abstract: The making of perfume from the combination Magnolia alba (M. alba) flower oil, Cananga odorata (C. odorata) and Mimusops elengi L (M. elengi) fixed with Pogostemon cablin oil (P. cablin) have been done. Essential oil of M. alba and C. odorata was distilled by water distillation and extraction essential oil of M. elengi flower using n-hexane evaporated solvent method. Composition perfume through organoleptic test obtained with a ratio of 4% v/v, 4% v/v, and 2% v/v for each essential oil M. alba, C. odorata and M. elengi. Antibacterial activity of the perfume and each of the volatile oil was performed by the disc diffusion method. Antibacterial activity test showed that perfumes were able to inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) bacteria, but less active. Antibacterial activity of the perfume was more active against E. coli with an inhibitory zone of 8.3 mm and 39.81% inhibitory power than S. aureus bacterial 7.3 mm inhibition zone with 37.55% inhibitory power. Perfumes after storage for one, and two months had better antibacterial activity than before storage with an average inhibitory zone of 11-15 mm and inhibitory power of 50- 68,18%.
