Abstract

Abstract This paper aims at synthesizing the utilization of corrective feedback second/foreign language (S/FL) teaching. I schewed on a three-main-tenet of corrective feedback seen from its forms, task instruction, timing, and mediating variables. As such, I encompassed this paper into four subsequent steps: Reviewing and synthesizing, finding the discrepancies, and recommending. First is reviewing and synthesizing. In this step, I collected some papers pertaining to two schools of corrective feedback perspective: cognitive interactionist (e.g., recasts) and socio-cultural (e.g., scaffolded feedback) perspectives. Second is unveiling the discrepancies to resolve. After getting such discrepancies, efforts in resolving are highlighted both in the two types of CF. Later, suggestion and recommendation are elucidated later.Key words: corrective feedback, cognitive-interactionist perspective, socio-cultural perspective

Abstract

The growth of UMKM in various sectors has triggered intense competition between these business actors. One of them is the craft sector. The use of social media is expected to boost turnover, but the benefits are still lacking. In the craft sector, the problem that arises on the MSME side is the cessation of production. This causes turnover to decrease and has an impact on decreasing profits. This dynamic system modeling is used to see how profit-increasing strategies can be carried out. Based on the dynamic system, there are several variables, namely the causal loop diagram (CLD) and the Stock Flow Diagram (SFD) that are built, there are 3 scenarios in increasing production profits, namely: increasing production, reducing the cost of tools and materials and the third is both taken simultaneously. From the simulation carried out, it was found that within a period of 12 months it was seen that increasing production by reducing the cost of tools and materials could increase sales so that income increased and profits increased. A process of identifying production process change variables is needed as one of the production process variables that was stopped.

Abstract

This research aims to identify and explain the signifiers, signified, denotations, connotations meanings, and myths embedded in the signs of the TV series Criminal Minds poster. In this research, the authors used the descriptive qualitative method to identify, analyze, and explain the signs in the Criminal Minds TV series poster. The authors also employ Ferdinand de Saussure and Roland Barthes' semiotic approach in the research. The primary data of this research is taken from both the verbal and nonverbal signs in Criminal Minds TV Series posters. This research shows that there are nine nonverbal and two verbal signs. Furthermore, after analyzing all of the signs (both verbal and nonverbal) in Saussure and Barthes' semiotic approach, this study found that all of the signs carry specific messages. Its purpose is to give the audience teasers or clues about the story, which tells about the journey of all main characters of Criminal Minds. Moreover, the myth commonly found across the signs in this TV series poster is to attract more potential viewers to watch the series.

Abstract

Periklanan merupakan salah satu bentuk informasi yang menyampaikan pesan suatu produk atau jasa. Informasi iniditujukanuntuk umum. Lebih jauhlagi, iklandapat mempengaruhikeinginandanpikiranorang tentang produk atau layanan yang kemudian membujuk mereka untuk menjadi konsumen. Studi penelitian ini menggunakan dua iklan yaitu IklanDolce & Gabbana diMajalahElle edisiMei 2020. Kedua iklantersebut adalahDolce & Gabbana Millenialskin On-The-Glow Tinted Moisturizer dan Dolce & Gabbana Passioneyes Intense Volume Mascara. Kedua produk ini memiliki banyak makna simbolis. Melalui analisis penelitian ini, tanda-tanda visual dan frasa verbal berpengaruh membangun representasi makna simbolik. Dalam memahami makna, peneliti menggunakan teori semiotik dari Ferdinand de Saussure dan Rolland Barthes, serta struktur iklan menurut teori Leech. Teori-teori tersebut digunakan untuk mengetahui makna simbol yang terkandung dalam iklan dan bagaimana merepresentasikan citra perempuan.

Abstract

The present study aims to investigate direct and indirect factors affecting willingness to communicate (WTC) in L2 by using Facebook. Second semester English students (n=156) from private and state universities in three cities in Indonesia; Surabaya, Bali, and Malang participated in this study. A set of questionnaire with a 5-point Likert-scale encompassing students’ perception, motivation, communicative selfconfidence (CSC), and Willingness to Communicate (L2 WTC) was used to collect the data. The data were then analyzed using a software package, AMOS 20, to gauge the magnitude of the factors affecting L2 WTC by using FB platform. The finding reveals that there are considerable effects on perception and motivation mediated by communicative self-confidence to WTC. While, communicative self-confidence shows the strongest predictor on L2 WTC.

Abstract

This study delves into the effects of the SISPEL (Sistem Pelanggaran) application on character development among students in vocational high schools. Specifically, it focuses on 23 students from the Vocational High School Khusus Angkatan Laut - 1 Surabaya, who have been identified for violating school rules. By exclusively employing the SISPEL application, the research intricately examines its role in shaping character traits within the context of vocational education. Through a meticulous questionnaire-based survey, the study endeavors to highlight the application's influence on ethical values, moral principles, and the cultivation of character-building skills. The primary goal is to unveil the multi-dimensional impact it has on fostering holistic student development. The findings of this exploration not only enrich the current comprehension of character development within this specific educational framework but also offer insights into the potential of technology-driven tools like SISPEL to cultivate well-rounded individuals. This research contributes to the broader discourse on character education and underscores the significance of innovative approaches in molding the ethical and moral foundation of students.

Abstract

Pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris para guru di Yayasan Barunawati Biru, Surabaya, melalui penerapan metode Toastmasters. Metode yang digunakan adalah pelatihan praktis yang berfokus pada pengembangan keterampilan komunikasi dalam bahasa Inggris, melibatkan 10 guru dari berbagai jenjang pendidikan (TK, SD, SMP, dan SMA). Program ini dirancang berdasarkan prinsip-prinsip dasar Toastmasters, mencakup kegiatan berbicara di depan umum, umpan balik, dan pengembangan keterampilan kepemimpinan. Metode pelatihan meliputi sesi latihan berbicara, diskusi kelompok, dan evaluasi oleh peserta dan fasilitator. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam kemampuan berbicara bahasa Inggris, termasuk penggunaan kosa kata, tata bahasa, dan kepercayaan diri saat berbicara di depan umum. Selain itu, para guru melaporkan perubahan positif dalam sikap dan motivasi mereka terhadap pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, yang menunjukkan dampak positif dari program ini terhadap pengembangan profesional mereka.

Abstract

Bahasa tabu, juga dikenal sebagai 'kebebasan berbicara', adalah salah satu cara orang mengekspresikan ketidaksetujuan mereka terhadap jenis perilaku tertentu yang diyakini tidak sesuai norma, baik untuk alasan supranatural atau pelanggaran kata-kata tabu. Ada banyak kata-kata tabu dalam penelitian ini yang akan diperiksa untuk mengetahui jenis dan fungsiapa yang terkandung dalam posting oleh artis terkenal Cardi B. Studi deskriptif ini menggunakan metodologi kualitatif dengan fakta dan fenomena yang sederhana untuk dijelaskan dan memungkinkan pengembangan hipotesis baru yang konsisten dengan model. Peneliti mencari kata-kata yang relevan dengan konteks yang berkaitan dengan masalah masyarakat dan menganalisis jenis dan fungsi kata-kata terlarang yang digunakan dalam posting Cardi B. Dengan menggunakan teori Wardaugh (1986) dan Jay (1996), peneliti menginvestigasi sekitar 20 kata Tabu yang dapat dikombinasikan dan ditafsirkan memiliki berbagai jenis dan fungsi. Jenis yang ditemukan oleh peneliti adalah kata-kata tabu yang terkait dengan seks, bagian tubuh, rasisme, dan LGBT, sedangkan untuk fungsi kategori bahasa vulgar, kecabulan, pelecehan seksual, serta makian dan penghinaan ditemukan pada unggahan Cardi B di Twitter.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the intrinsic elements of Eka Kurniawan's novel Cantik Itu Luka, The study focuses on the character Dewi Ayu, examining the emotions she experiences, including anger, love, sadness, and disgust. By utilizing intrinsic element theory, this research delves into the novel's characterization, plot development, and conflict to uncover how these elements shape Dewi Ayu's complex personality and journey throughout the narrative. This study aims to explore how theauthor portrays Dewi Ayu's struggles and the various emotions that define her character. The findings reveal that Dewi Ayu encounters numerous challenges, each contributing to the richness of her character and the overall narrative. Through a detailed analysis of the intrinsic elements, this research demonstrates how Eka Kurniawan uses these literary techniques to create a powerful and emotionally resonant story. The results offer valuable insights into the deeper layers of meaningwithin the novel, emphasizing the importance of intrinsic elements in shaping the story and its characters.
