Abstract

AbstractIntroduction : Menarche is the first occurrence of menstruation in the female. The more developing times, the age of menarche is getting earlier. Currently, the average teenage girls have menarche at 11 years old. With psychologically and emotionally unstable and insufficient knowledge of elementary school students, teenage girls are required to be ready for having menarche. Therefore, the readiness in facing menarche is essential to be studied to measure self-readiness if menarche suddenly comes to elementary school students. Furthermore, the knowledge factor, especially about menarche, is important to be conducted a measurement to find out whether there is a relation with readiness in facing menarche in students. Method: This study used an observational analytics method with a cross-sectional design. The number of samples was 53 students, and the sampling technique used the total sampling. The independent variable is knowledge, and the dependent variable is the readiness in facing menarche. This study was conducted on 4th-grade and 5th-grade students in SDN (State Elementary School) Kalurip Purworejo. The data collection technique of the study was conducted online using questionnaires, which were distributed in personal chat to the students and the students' guardians through the Google Form link. The data analysis used the chi-square test. Results: The results of the study show that students' knowledge is in the lack category (52.8%), and students are in the not ready category (62.3%) in facing menarche. The results of the chi-square test show the p-value of 0.000001 (p < 0.05). Conclusion: There is a relationship between knowledge and readiness in facing menarche. The less knowledge the more unprepared it is in facing menarche.

Abstract

AbstractBackground and Purpose : The prevalence of Bacterial Vaginosis (BV) among Asian women in India and Indonesia is 32% while in the case of BV in 2018 the obstetric clinic of Dr. Soetomo Regional Hospital is 181 BV sufferers. The impact of BV on Pelvic Organ Prolapse (POP) patients, namely the delay in POP treatment such as BV pessaries can be influenced by age, menopausal status, and BMI. This study aims to analyze the relationship of age, menopausal status, and BMI with the incidence of BV in POP patients. Methods: This study used observational analytics with a retrospective and cross sectional approach. The number of samples used was 86 patients. Samoel taking technique with total sampling. The independent variable is the incidence of BV, while the dependent variable is age, menopause status, BMI. Bivariate data analysis using chi square, fisher's exact test and multivariate test using multiple logistic regression tests. Results: The results showed a positive BV prevalence of 76.7% with the majority of patients aged over 60 years at 44.2%, having menopause at 81.4%, and having a BMI of 18.5-24.5 at 47.7%. Fisher's exact test analysis test showed p value of maternal age = 0.003 (RR = 6.398) and p value of BMI = 0.767 (p> 0.005). Chi square analysis test showed p value of menopause status = 0.009 (RR = 4.833). The multiple logistic regression analysis test showed that maternal age was the most dominant factor with a value of p = 0.006 (OR = 6.398 (1,711-23,929)). Conclusion: There is a relationship between age and menopausal status with the incidence of BV. Age is the most dominant independent factor in the incidence of BV.

Abstract

AbstractBackground: The menstrual cycle can be said to be normal if the interval is between 21-35 days. The prevalence rates associated with menstrual cycle disorders were found in the range of 15.8-89.5. Nutritional status is one of the factors that cause menstrual cycle disorders, where nutritional status can be determined using body mass index and measuring the percentage of fat in the body. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between nutritional status and the menstrual cycle using the literature review method. The formulation of the problem in this research is determined by PICO, namely: "is there a relationship between nutritional status and menstrual cycle disorders?". A total of 749 literary works obtained from the Google Scholar, Science Direct, PubMed and ProQuest databases were used as a literature review source, where in screening the literature the inclusion and exclusion criteria were seen, which had previously been determined so that finally six literatures were reviewed. Results: The cause of menstrual cycle disorders has been found in adolescents with an average value of 18.4-37.8 and the percentage of body fat between 12.80-34.80. Conclusion: Based on all literature that has been reviewed, it can be concluded that menstrual cycle disorders have a significant relationship with body mass index and body fat percentage.

Abstract

Physical exercise can cause a change in hormonal system resulting an irregularities of menstrual cycle. Menstrual irregularities is one of the ovulation disruption symptoms. The most important cause of ovulation disruption is a decrease of Gonadothropin Releasing Hormone (GnRH) which is regulated by hipothalamus-pitutary-ovarium axis (HPO axis) mechanism resulting in decreased of Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) secretion. HPO axis mechanism disruption can be caused by severe physical activity. Methods: This research took place in phaculty of veterinary of Airlangga University. The methods of this research was experimental laboratory study with Randomized Post-test Only Control Group Design. The number of sample were 28 female mice divided into four groups with a sampling technique using probability sampling with the type of simple random sampling. The independent variable of this research were moderate and severe physical exercise. The dependent variable were serum Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) levels. The data were analyzed using SPSS 25 software with one way- ANOVA test. This research was conducted to analyze the difference effect of low to severe physical exercise on serum Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) levels in female mice. The result is there were no significant difference in levels of Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) mice with low, moderate and severe physical activity. The conclusion that can be taken in this research is there is no difference in the effect of low, moderate to severe physical exercise on serum Follicle Stimulating Hormone levels in female mice.

Abstract

Background: Cervical cancer is one of the deadliest diseases for women’s lives. It is estimated that almost every hour, one died because of cervical cancer and 70% of new cases are found in an advanced stage. Many factors could cause cervical cancer, one of the risk factors is the age of the early coitarche. This study aims to determine the association between the age of coitarche and cervical cancer. Methods: This study was an analysis of observational study with a case-control design. There were two groups in this study; the case group of outpatients who were diagnosed with cervical cancer and the control group of outpatients who had normal cervical cytology by Papanicolaou screening. The 39 respondents of both the control and case groups, calculated using the Lemeshow’s formula for consecutive sampling, were interviewed for their details concerning reproductive and sexual histories, socio-economic status, hygiene, and education. The independent variable in this study was the age of coitarche; the dependent variable was cervical cancer. The data were analyzed descriptively and using the bivariate analysis (Chi-square) with α=0.05.Results: It is identified that 39 respondents for each group (case and control) have almost the same percentage of the age of coitarche in One-Stop Oncology Polyclinic (POSA’s outpatient); early coitarche of 43.6% and late coitarche of 56.4%. The age of early coitarche in Obstetrics and Gynecology’s outpatients, as a control group, is rare (4 of 39 respondents; 10.3%) and most of them did their sexual debut at the age of >18 years (89.7%). The chi-square test showed there was a correlation between the age of coitarche and cervical cancer (P=.002; OR=6.76; 95% CI 2.01–22.75).Conclusions: Early coitarche has a potential effect on cervical cancer.

Abstract

HIGHLIGHTS 1. Hormonal changes during pregnancy lead to the presence of vulvovaginal candidiasis.2. Increased incidence of vulvovaginal candidiasis in different pregnancy trimesters were analyzed.3. Frequency of vulvovaginal candidiasis tends to increase along with the gestational age.   ABSTRACT Objectives: This study aimed to analyze whether there was an increase in the incidence risk of vulvovaginal candidiasis at various gestational ages. Materials and Methods: A study examined vaginal smears of pregnant women at a private midwifery practice Farida Hadjri, Surabaya, Indonesia. A total sample of 96 patients was taken by the consecutive sampling method, consisting of 32 patients each from the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimester of pregnancy.y The smear was examined using Gram stain at Balai Besar Laboratorium Kesehatan Daerah Jawa Timur to detect the presence of fungi elements. Data were analyzed using Chi-square test with 95% confidence interval to investigate whether there was an increased risk of vulvovaginal candidiasis and gestational age. Results: There was an increased risk of vulvovaginal candidiasis and increased gestational age (p < 0.05). This result was related to the hormonal status of pregnant women. An increase in estrogen level during pregnancy leads to an increase in glycogen production by vaginal epithelial cells, which cause the vaginal environment to become more susceptible to fungal growth. Conclusion: There was increased vulvovaginal candidiasis incidence risk along with gestational age. Pregnancy is one of the predisposing factors for candida infection.

Abstract

Background: Adolescents are a group that is prone to anemia. Anemia is defined as a lower than normal haemoglobin level. The prevalence of anemia in adolescents in Indonesia is the highest at the age group of 15-24 years, 32%. The most common cause of anemia is lack of nutrients needed for erythrocyte synthesis. Substances that play a role in haemolysis are protein, vitamins (folic acid, vitamin B12, vitamin C and vitamin E), and minerals (Fe and Cu). Objective: To analyse the intake of protein and iron expected incidence of anemia in adolescent girls. Methods: This study used a systematic review method. The databases used to conduct this research are Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, Portal Garuda and Google Scholar. The keywords used in Indonesian are "Anemia", "Remaja", "Asupan Gizi" or "Nutrisi", "Protein", "Fe" or "Zat besi" and in English are "Anemia", "Adolescent", “Nutritional Intake”, “Ferrous Sulfate” OR “Protein” Results: From several articles that have been reviewed, it is shown that protein intake and Fe (iron) intake of adolescents related to anemia are associated with the incidence of anemia experienced by adolescents. A good protein intake will affect haemoglobin levels in adolescent girls. In addition, intake of Fe (iron) will also affect haemoglobin levels in adolescents. Conclusion: intake of protein and iron will affect haemoglobin levels in adolescents.
