Abstract

Physical activity level and cardiovascular risk factors among university employees AbstractNoncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) are one of the leading deaths in the world. Insufficiency of physical activity (PA) escalate the risk of NCDs. Although the reports of the studies investigating the relationship between PA and cardiovascular risk factors are abundance, only a few studies in Indonesia examined the role of PA in the development of cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this study was to describe the level of PA and investigate the relationships between PA and cardiovascular risk factors among UNS employees. This was a cross sectional study with a sample of 44 university employees. PA level was assessed using IPAQ. Meanwhile cardiovascular risk factors such as plasma glucose, cholesterol, blood pressure, waist circumference, and BMI were measured using an appropriate tool for each measure. The results revealed that participants with low level of PA (6.82%), moderate category (72.73%), and high category (20.45%). Pearson Correlation analysis showed blood pressure both systolic and diastolic had a significant association with PA level. There was no a significant association between PA level and others cardiovascular risk factors in this research. Generally, this study exhibited the level of PA among UNS employees in the moderate category, and blood pressure had a significant association with PA.

Abstract

Technology's darting advancement made digital literacy a key component in pre-service teacher professional development. Their digital literacy ability is reflected in their teaching, including designing learning media such as digital story-telling. Hence, this study is designed to understand how EFL pre-service teachers access information as a part of digital literacy to create digital storytelling learning media. The data were gathered from 28 students of the English Education Department in the Cross-Cultural Understanding course by having them write diaries to reflect on their experiences in designing digital storytelling learning media. Using a narrative inquiry method, the data were analyzed through three steps: repeatedly reading, coding, and categorizing it into thematic headings. The findings from data analysis indicate the mastery of various dimensions of digital literacy, namely photo-visual, reproductive, branching, informational, and social-emotional literacy, by EFL pre-service teachers, substantially contributed to the quality of teaching and student engagement in digital-based learning. This research underscores the need to integrate digital literacy training into teacher education programs to better prepare future educators for the demands of modern, technology-driven classrooms.

Abstract

Walking is a public health recommendation to increase physical activity. Although walking for transport is associated with health benefits, it is frequently avoided when a mechanized alternative is available and when the weather or individuals’ available resources are unfavorable. The present quasi-experimental study used chosen walking speed to estimate the use of resources by pedestrians and investigated 730 pedestrians’ behavior when approaching a choice point between a short stair and a ramp at an exit from a university campus toward the local train station on six separate days. Results revealed that individuals who climbed the stairs walked faster than those who chose the ramp. In addition, females and those who were overweight walked slower than their comparator groups. Temperature was associated with walking behavior; as temperature increased, the walking speed of pedestrians decreased. Moreover, the purpose of walking is an important determinant of walking speed. Minimization of time to arrive at the train station as quickly as possible is a plausible alternative explanation for the effects of resource allocation on walking speed.

Abstract

A strong coach–athlete relationship is essential for achieving optimal performance, particularly in Paralympic sports where athletes face physical limitations and social barriers. Coaches play roles that extend beyond technical instruction by providing emotional support, motivation, and adaptive strategies tailored to individual disability needs. This study aims to understand how Indonesian Paralympic athletes interpret their relationships with their coaches based on their lived experiences. A qualitative phenomenological approach was used with three Indonesian Paralympic athletes actively training for the 2024 Paris Paralympics: one athlete with a visual disability, one with a physical disability, and one with an intellectual disability. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and analysis of coaching documentation, which were processed using a phenomenological analysis procedure. The results show that the coach–athlete relationship is characterized by emotional closeness, mutual commitment, reciprocal role support, and alignment of goals. Athletes perceive their coaches as figures who listen, understand their conditions, and provide both psychological and practical assistance during training. Coaches adjust communication styles and coaching strategies to meet athletes' sensory and cognitive needs, enabling athletes to stay motivated and confident. Shared goal-setting further enhances cooperation and strengthens athletes' readiness for competition. This study concludes that the coach–athlete relationship in the Indonesian Paralympic context involves emotional, adaptive, and goal-oriented interactions that serve as a foundation for inclusive and high-performance coaching. These findings offer practical insights for enhancing coaching development programs that prioritize interpersonal sensitivity and support athletes' overall well-being.
