Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan kemaritiman pada anak-anak dan keluarga nelayan di Keputih Timur Gang Pompa Air melalui pengembangan dan distribusi media edukasi maritim berbasis gambar, video, dan permainan interaktif. Metode pelaksanaan menggunakan pendekatan partisipatif melalui penyuluhan, pelatihan, dan evaluasi pemahaman. Media edukasi yang dikembangkan mencakup 15 lembar infografis, 3 video pendek animasi, dan 2 jenis permainan kartu edukatif yang disesuaikan dengan konteks lokal. Sebanyak 45 anak usia 7–15 tahun dan 30 orang tua nelayan menjadi partisipan aktif. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa 88,9% anak mengalami peningkatan pemahaman tentang fungsi pelabuhan, jenis kapal, dan profesi maritim setelah intervensi. Sebelum kegiatan, hanya 24,4% anak yang dapat menjawab minimal 5 dari 10 pertanyaan kuis edukasi; setelah kegiatan, angka tersebut meningkat menjadi 86,7%. Sebanyak 90% orang tua menyatakan bahwa media edukasi membantu mereka menjelaskan pekerjaan maritim kepada anak. Respons positif masyarakat tercermin dari tingkat partisipasi harian yang mencapai 96% selama 5 hari kegiatan berlangsung. Kegiatan ini menunjukkan bahwa media edukasi maritim yang komunikatif dan kontekstual efektif dalam meningkatkan literasi maritim anak-anak nelayan. Penguatan literasi maritim sejak usia dini berpotensi membentuk kesadaran kolektif masyarakat pesisir terhadap pentingnya sektor kemaritiman sebagai bagian dari jati diri bangsa maritim.

Abstract

The shipping industry faces significant challenges in reducing emissions and improving ship operational efficiency. This study aims to analyze the impact of environmentally friendly technology and renewable energy utilization on the operational efficiency of merchant vessels. The study was conducted at TUKS PT. Petrokimia Gresik using a quantitative approach by distributing questionnaires to 96 respondents, who were ship operators and technicians. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression to test the partial and simultaneous effects of both independent variables on operational efficiency. The results of the study indicate that both environmentally friendly technology and renewable energy significantly influence ship operational efficiency, both partially and simultaneously. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.674 indicates that 67.4% of the variation in operational efficiency is explained by these two variables. This finding reinforces the urgency of implementing a green shipping strategy in the Indonesian maritime sector. This study suggests the need for continued investment in low-emission technologies and the use of alternative energy sources in industrial ports.

Abstract

The implementation of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code is a crucial effort to ensure ship security, particularly when vessels are berthed or anchored in high-risk areas. However, in practice, not all ships apply these standards optimally. This study aims to evaluate the application of the ISPS Code in watchkeeping operations aboard MV Oriental Jade, particularly after a theft incident that occurred while the vessel was anchored at Belawan Port. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study method. Data were collected through observation, interviews with ship officers, and supporting documentation. The results indicate that although the ship's watchkeeping procedures formally adhere to the ISPS Code and the STCW 1978 Amendment 2010, practical implementation remains suboptimal. Several challenges were identified, including limited personnel, crew fatigue, lack of security training, and insufficient supporting facilities such as CCTV and communication devices. Security improvement efforts onboard remain reactive and lack systematic structure. This study recommends regular training, proper supervision, and the provision of adequate supporting equipment to ensure the effective and sustainable implementation of the ISPS Code onboard.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian masyarakat ini memiliki tujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman serta kesadaran bagi anak-anak nelayan di Kelurahan Keputih, Surabaya, terkait pengetahuan kemaritiman. Program penyuluhan ini diselenggarakan dengan pendekatan edukatif dan interaktif, melibatkan anak-anak sebagai peserta aktif. Melalui berbagai metode, seperti ceramah, permainan edukatif, dan demonstrasi, kami menyampaikan informasi mengenai keberlanjutan sumber daya laut, keseimbangan ekosistem maritim, dan pentingnya menjaga lingkungan laut. Selain itu, kami juga memberikan pemahaman tentang keamanan pelayaran, teknologi nelayan yang ramah lingkungan, dan peluang-peluang dalam sektor kemaritiman. Kegiatan ini tidak hanya bertujuan memberikan pengetahuan, tetapi juga menciptakan kesadaran akan peran anak-anak dalam menjadi agen perubahan untuk menjaga keberlanjutan lingkungan maritim. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pengetahuan anak-anak nelayan mengenai aspek-aspek kemaritiman. Dengan demikian, upaya penyuluhan ini diharapkan dapat memberikan dampak positif pada perkembangan berkelanjutan komunitas nelayan di Kelurahan Keputih, Surabaya, serta mendorong generasi muda untuk lebih peduli terhadap lingkungan laut dan memanfaatkannya secara bijak

Abstract

Trigonometry and spherical triangles are branches of mathematics that are very relevant to ship navigation. Application of the concept and formula of trigonometry and spherical triangles to the positioning of ships by observing celestial bodies. Determining the true position of the ship in the sea is very important to be done so that the ship is always on the right course and avoids navigation hazards. This research aims to explore the important role of trigonometry and spherical triangles in ship navigation, as well as how learning approaches in STEM contexts can improve students' understanding and skills in determining the position of ships at sea. This research is qualitative and uses a case study approach. This study involves a real-case analysis of the application of trigonometry and spherical triangles in ship navigation to see their impact on the accuracy of ship positioning. The data collection techniques used in this research are interviews, observations, and documentation. The instruments used were validated by mathematics lecturers and astronomy navigation science lecturers. The results of the study show that trigonometry and spherical triangles have an important role in determining the position of ships at sea; STEM learning with a PBL approach has proven to be effective in improving students' understanding and skills in the application of trigonometry and spherical triangles in ship navigation. STEM learning in the context of trigonometry and spherical triangles contributes significantly to students' understanding of ship navigation and develops students' critical thinking skills.         Keywords: STEM, trigonometry, spherical triangle, problem base learning, ship navigation. DOI: http://dx.doi.org/10.23960/jpmipa/v25i2.pp1012-1021

Abstract

This research aims to improve students' critical thinking skills through a contextual teaching-learning model in a ship stability course. This qualitative study employs a case study approach to deeply understand the application of contextual teaching in ship stability courses. The data collection method uses written tests and interviews. The subjects are all 38 third-semester Ship Operation Engineering Technology Study Program students in the 2023/2024 academic year. Tests were conducted twice: pre-test and post-test. The average pre-test score for critical thinking was 52.38, and the post-test average was 82.45, categorized as very good. The analysis concluded that students' scores were shallow before contextual learning but improved significantly to an excellent category after the application

Abstract

This study examines the association between Bridge Simulator training, seafarers’ self-awareness, and emergency decision-making performance. A quantitative correlational design was employed involving 105 active seafarers who had participated in certified bridge simulator training. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire measuring perceived training quality, self-awareness, and emergency decision-making performance. Spearman’s rho correlation analysis revealed a strong positive association between Bridge Simulator training and self-awareness (ρ = 0.764), as well as between Bridge Simulator training and emergency decision-making performance (ρ = 0.744). These findings indicate that higher perceived quality of simulator training is associated with higher levels of self-awareness and decision-making performance in emergency contexts. The study contributes empirical evidence on the psychological and cognitive dimensions associated with simulator-based maritime training and highlights implications for maritime education and safety training.

Abstract

Kompas merupakan alat navigasi yang sangat penting saat kapal sedang berlayar karena berguna untuk menunjukkan arah kapal untuk sampai di suatu tujuan. Kompas pada kapal tidak selalu menunjukkan arah yang akurat sehingga kapal berlayar tidak sesuai dengan haluan sejati yang telah dibuat. Supaya kapal berlayar sesuai dengan haluan sejati, diperlukan koreksi pada kompas gyro dan magnet. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui penyebab terjadi kesalahan pada kompas, cara menentukan koreksi pada kompas gyro dan magnet, serta alasan para mualim jarang melakukan pengambilan koreksi. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah kualitatif dengan pengumpulan data melalui observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Dari hasil data observasi, wawancara dan dokumentasi penulis mendapatkan hasil penelitian bahwa kesalahan kompas disebabkan karena variasi dan deviasi. Kesalahan pada kompas gyro dan magnet dapat dikoreksi dengan menggunakan baringan matahari saat kapal sedang berlayar, pengambilan koreksi pada kompas memerlukan beberapa alat yaitu azimuth circle, gyro repeater, stopwatch, buku almanak nautika, dan kalkulator scientific. Alasan para mualim jarang melakukan pengambilan koreksi kompas dikarenakan mualim kurang paham dalam perhitungan koreksi kompas dan karena faktor dari cuaca yang tidak mendukung untuk pengambilan koreksi kompas. Oleh karena itu perwira kapal agar mempelajari cara perhitungan koreksi kompas gyro dan magnet dan lebih sering melakukan pengambilan koreksi agar tidak lupa cara perhitungannya
