Background and purpose: Disaster preparedness is crucial for health workers in order to provide relief to communities affected by disasters quickly and precisely. However currently there are only few health workers who are prepared to face disasters. This study aims to determine the association between knowledge in disaster management, perception of disaster preparedness, participation in training and experience in disaster management with disaster preparedness in health workers. Methods: A cross sectional survey was conducted among health workers at Petang and Abiansemal public health centres (PHCs). Of the six PHCs in Petang and Abiansemal Sub-districts, four were randomly selected consisting of one PHC in Petang Sub-district and three PHCs in Abiansemal Sub-district. All health workers (271 people) in the four PHCs were selected as respondents. Individual face-to-face interviews were conducted by the first author during April 2018 in the workplaces of each respondent using a pre-tested questionnaire. Data collected consisted of socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge in disaster management, perceptions of disaster preparedness, participation in training, experiences in disaster management and disaster preparedness. Questions consisted of three components namely knowledge in disaster management (12 items), perception of disaster preparedness (32 items) and disaster preparedness (25 items). Bivariate analysis was conducted with chi square test and multivariate analysis with binary logistic regression to determine the association between knowledge, perception, participation in training and experience in disaster management with disaster preparedness. Results: The results showed that 70.9% of respondents had attended disaster training, 40.6% had good knowledge, 24.7% had participated in disaster management and 49.1% had a high level of disaster preparedness. The variables significantly associated with disaster preparedness were perceptions of disaster preparedness (AOR=6.40; 95%CI: 3.71-10.99) and participation in disaster training (AOR=2.68; 95%CI: 1.44-4.97). Conclusion: Disaster preparedness among PHC health workers remains low. Perception of disaster preparedness and participation in training are significantly associated with disaster preparedness. Continuous training is needed to increase disaster preparedness among health workers.

Nurse preparedness is a factor that needs to be considered in order to suppress work safety in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Early nursing intervention plays an important role in the prevention, preparedness, and response to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and other emerging infectious diseases. A nurse preparedness questionnaire about emerging infectious diseases needs to be compiled as an instrument that can measure preparedness related to unpredictable emerging infectious diseases. The aim of this study was to analyze the validity and reliability of the nurse preparedness questionnaire in dealing with emerging infectious diseases in Bali. This research method is a cross-sectional study involving all nurses in the emergency department at Klungkung Hospital as many as 30 people. Conducting a literature review and adopting the WHO COVID-19 preparedness questionnaire developed the instrument. The questionnaire consists of 4 dimensions with a total of 28 statement items covering the dimensions of knowledge on preparedness for emerging infectious diseases, dimensions of facility preparedness and response readiness in triage, dimensions of the effective response of nurses, and dimensions of preparedness and readiness of nurses for personal protective equipment. The stratified scale in this questionnaire uses a modified Likert scale with 4 answer choices of answers choices (4) strongly agree (3) agree (2) disagree and (1) strongly disagree. In instrumental testing, all 28 items of the instrument were confirmed through content validity (Pearson Product Moment). Using internal consistency reliability, the study found reasonable inter-item reliability for all items (Cronbach’s α: > 0.90)

The emergence of COVID-19 is placing unforeseen pressure on the country's health care system and presenting various challenges for healthcare workers. Health care workers are at high risk of infection, while they have a large burden on clinical care and prevention of Covid-19 virus infection, including emergency room nurses. The emergency room nurse is one of the medical personnel who plays an important role in providing health services to patients. Several previous studies revealed that there were psychological problems experienced by emergency room nurses such as anxiety, work stress, fear, and depression. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct a study to find out what are the predictors of psychological problems for emergency room nurses in dealing with emergencies situation during the COVID-19 pandemic. This research is a correlational analytic study using a cross-sectional design involving 85 emergency room nurses who are members of the Indonesian Emergency and Disaster Nurses Association (HIPGABI Bali). The data collection process is carried out online to the respondents. The data were analyzed by Spearman-Rank test with a significance level of (0.05). The results of the study were that the majority of emergency room nurses had normal anxiety responses and moderate stress. The factors related to anxiety are the completeness of hospital facilities (p-value = 0.000) and the presence of comorbidities (p-value = 0.007), while the only factor related to stress was the completeness of hospital facilities (p-value = 0.050). This can be a consideration for hospital management and professional organizations to take strategic steps to prevent nurses' psychological problems.
