Abstract

Studies of shame and guilt have focused more on normal populations and cultural and religious contexts. The study of this topic for a group of subjects who commit crimes is still limited, especially sexual crimes as actions that are considered socially embarrassing. This study focused on examining the relationship of shame with guilt on inmates of sexual crimes (N = 143) who are carrying out sentences in correctional institutions. Shame and guilt are measured using the Guilt and Shame Proneness (GASP) Scale developed by Cohen et al. This study found a significant positive association so that shame can be a predictor of guilt. This study has implications for the importance of correctional institutions providing treatment to increase shame for prisoners of sexual crimes, thereby preventing the re-offense of their crimes.

There have been several violent incidents in the Correctional Unit. One of them in West Sumatra, where the Legal Aid Institute in Padang recorded three cases during the current year in 2019, occurred in Pariaman Class II-B of Correctional Institution. Similar incidents occurred in 2018 in which children in correctional institutions were recorded as experiencing physical, psychic, and sexual violence. Abstract

Life in an overcrowded correctional facility / detention center causes various problems such as behavioral deviations, prison breaks, riots, fires, drug smuggling, and human rights violations. This surely causes inmates to experience psychological pressure. On the other hand, inmates are required to refine themselves so that they can be socially reintegrated and accepted by society again. Therefore, this study will discuss how the readiness for self-improvement of inmates is influenced by their psychological well-being. This study aims to determine the effect of Psychological Well Being on the inmates' Readiness for Self-Improvement. The method used in this research is a quantitative method. A random sampling technique was used which involved 190 inmates at Surakarta Correctional Facility. The instrument used to measure Psychological Well Being variable was adapted from the scale of Psychological well-being introduced by Ryff, while the scale for Readiness for Self-Improvement variable adapted the Scale of Readiness for Self Improvement (SRSI). The results of the analysis by performing a simple regression test prove that Psychological Well Being is a predictor of The Readiness for Self Improvement with a significance of 21.7%. This reveals that Psychological Well Being contributes to The Readiness for Self-Improvement which causes a need to improve Psychological Well Being to affect The Readiness for Self-Improvement among inmates. This research also aims to contribute to the academic world and add insights in the field of Correctional Sciences regarding inmates in correctional facility. In addition, understanding and knowing the impact of Psychological Well Being on The Readiness for Self-Improvement among inmates could help assist on implementing interventions in correctional facility. Thus the program held for inmates can be more effective and efficient to help them in the reintegration process.

Abstract

Inmates are individuals serving their sentences and undergoing rehabilitation in correctional institutions (Lapas). One important aspect of the inmate's social reintegration process is the ability to exercise self-control, particularly for perpetrators of child sexual abuse, who require a more in-depth personality development approach. This study aims to determine the extent to which religiosity influences self-control among inmates involved in child sexual abuse cases at the Class IIA Yogyakarta Prison. Religiosity is understood as an inner attitude and spiritual behavior that reflects an individual's closeness to religious teachings, which are believed to strengthen self-control and suppress negative impulses. A quantitative approach was applied by distributing questionnaires to inmates involved in child sexual abuse cases who served as the study sample. The variables used were religiosity and self-control, which have been tested for validity and reliability. The results showed a significant influence of religiosity on self-control. This finding underscores the importance of religious guidance as part of a rehabilitation strategy that can help inmates develop self-control and reduce the risk of relapse into deviant behavior.

Abstract

This community service aims to prevent body-shaming behavior among students at SMA Plus Pagelaran, Cisalak Village, Subang, through a community development approach. Body shaming, the act of criticizing a person's physical appearance, hurts students' psychology and self-confidence. This program is implemented by providing education to students, teachers, and parents about the negative consequences of body shaming and the importance of respecting physical diversity.  The activities carried out include socialization, group discussions, and the formation of supportive communities that strengthen students' confidence. The method is a participatory approach that involves all stakeholders in the school environment to create social norms that reject body shaming. Data collected through observation and interviews indicated increased awareness and a shift toward more positive attitudes toward physical differences among students. The results of community service activities prove that community development-based interventions are effective in reducing body shaming and building an inclusive and supportive school environment. This program is expected to serve as a model for preventing body shaming in other rural schools by empowering the community and supporting students' mental well-being. Further implementation can strengthen the role of schools and communities in fostering a positive culture that respects diversity and promotes solidarity among students in Cisalak Village, Subang.
