Abstract

Civic education plays an important role in developing students’ character, particularly disciplinary character in academic and social life. Disciplinary character is not only related to compliance with school regulations, but also includes responsibility, awareness of obligations, and consistency in following rules. This study aims to analyze the role of civic education in developing students’ disciplinary character. This study uses a qualitative approach with a literature review method by examining relevant scientific articles published between 2021 and 2024. The data were analyzed descriptively by identifying and comparing previous research findings related to civic education and disciplinary character. The results show that civic education plays a role in instilling responsibility, compliance with norms, awareness of obligations, and disciplined behavior. The role of teachers, habituation, exemplary behavior, and a supportive school environment also contributes to the development of students’ disciplinary character. Therefore, civic education not only improves students’ understanding of civic and national life but also contributes to developing disciplinary character that can be applied in everyday life.

Abstract

This research explores the relevance of psychology in civic education for the development of students' character through a literature review analysis. The findings reveal that psychological aspects such as emotional management, intrinsic motivation, and psychological understanding of social learning play a crucial role in shaping students' character. These findings are reinforced by a focus on the use of technology, parental involvement, and understanding the challenges of implementation as supporting factors. However, ongoing challenges such as resource availability and contextual adaptation need serious consideration. Sustainability and further development in teaching strategies, coupled with in-depth research to unearth the potential of psychology in civic education, are identified as essential steps for successful implementation. This study affirms that understanding and integrating psychology into civic education can positively contribute to the formation of students' characters, creating an empowered younger generation with a heightened sense of civic awareness.

Abstract

Learning about Pancasila is an educational effort in creating a generation that can actively develop the potential to the character of students, especially as social beings who need to foster responsibility, sensitivity, and empathy for others through the implementation of the second precept value, namely Fair and Civilised Humanity. Students who interpret the value of Fair and Civilised Humanity will certainly be reflected in their attitudes that humanise people, are fair and moral. This is a form of empathy that is instilled in their daily lives and becomes a habit that is constantly improving. This research was conducted on 2022 students who were in the course of learning civic education about Pancasila. This research also uses qualitative methods by interviewing seven students in the city of Bandung, as well as using literature review by analysing information from previous sources. The results showed that most students felt an increase in empathy after interpreting and applying the value of the second principle, namely fair and civilised humanity. Pancasila, especially the second principle, is considered as a lesson that trains students to continue to respect each other, help others, be honest, fair, and responsible so that these various positive attitudes are very important and can result in moral improvement and personality of the generation that will advance the Indonesian nation later.
