Abstract

This study aims to analyze the management of databases at State Islamic Higher Education Institutions (PTKIN) in supporting the accreditation of study programs. The research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, employing data collection methods such as interviews, observations, and documentation. Data were obtained from several PTKIN institutions in the Java region, including UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin, and IAIN Pekalongan. The findings reveal that database management plays a crucial role in enhancing the accreditation scores of study programs by providing valid and relevant data. Strategic policies, such as strengthening human resources, implementing independent academic information systems, and conducting accreditation simulations by Quality Assurance Institutions, have proven effective in preparing study programs for assessment by the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education (BAN-PT). The study also highlights challenges, such as limited human resources and inconsistencies in reporting data, which can be addressed through technological innovations and continuous training. This research underscores the importance of integrated database management in supporting the quality of higher education at PTKIN.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Baitul Maal wa Tamwil (BMT) as an Islamic microfinance institution in eliminating loan shark practices in communities, particularly in Java and Sumatra. Loan shark practices persist due to the ease and speed of loan disbursement, despite the high interest rates that entrap small communities in difficult-to-escape debt cycles. BMT offers a fair and interest-free Islamic financing solution based on profit-sharing principles and a more inclusive approach. This study discusses BMT’s financing strategies, such as lenient requirements, fast processing, and financial education programs designed to compete with loan sharks. The main findings indicate that BMT plays a significant role in providing fairer financing access to small communities and helping reduce their dependence on loan sharks. However, this study also reveals several challenges BMT faces, such as limited capital, strict regulations, and low financial literacy among the public. These challenges hinder BMT's ability to effectively compete with loan sharks in terms of speed and accessibility. The results of this study emphasize the importance of strengthening BMT’s capital, developing human resources, and innovating Islamic financing products so that BMT can play a more prominent role in eradicating loan shark practices in the community. With the right strategy and support from various stakeholders, BMT has great potential to continue growing as a more equitable and empowering financing solution.

Abstract

The contemporary escalation of global Islamophobia poses significant challenges not only to social cohesion but also to the legitimacy of Islamic law within modern constitutional frameworks, where it is often perceived as incompatible with universal human rights norms. Despite the expanding discourse on religious moderation, limited attention has been given to evaluating the effectiveness of Indonesia’s Islam Wasathiyah legal framework from a comparative Islamic legal perspective. This study aims to examine the institutionalization of wasathiyah principles within Indonesian Islamic governance and to assess their potential in addressing Islamophobic narratives. Employing a normative juridical approach with a comparative legal framework, this research draws on primary sources including fatwas, state regulations, and policy documents, supported by relevant scholarly literature, and analyzes them through a maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah-based approach combined with doctrinal legal analysis. The findings indicate that the institutionalization of Islam Wasathiyah—through authoritative fatwa mechanisms and state-supported policies—has contributed to the development of a relatively adaptive and inclusive juridical-sociological framework; compared to more rigid approaches in several Muslim jurisdictions, the Indonesian model demonstrates a greater capacity to accommodate pluralism and respond to contemporary socio-legal challenges, including Islamophobic discourse. This study contributes to contemporary Islamic legal scholarship by offering a contextualized model of religious governance grounded in maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah, which has the potential to strengthen the position of Islamic law within pluralistic societies while providing a constructive framework for mitigating Islamophobia.
