Abstract

The skill of writing expository essays can be used as a medium to improve the use of good and appropriate language for elementary school students. This study describes errors in using effective sentences in exposition essays in the fifth grade of Kebon Dalem State Elementary School, which consists of using effective sentence structures, Subject-Verb-Object-Adverb form (SPOK) conjunctions, and punctuation marks. This study used a qualitative approach with a qualitative descriptive method. The subject of this research is the fifth grade of Kebon Dalem State Elementary School, with as many as seventeen students. The research instrument was used in the form of interviews and written documents in student expositions essays. The results showed that the student’s exposition essay writing was good because it was seen from the mistakes that students did not make. Disposition errors in the use of effective sentence as a whole: there are five higher errors in effective sentence structures, including SPOK, three higher errors in the use of conjunctions, and five higher errors in punctuation marks. The errors were assessed slightly because each student wrote three paragraphs and ten to twelve sentences. It shows that the types of mistakes in using effective sentences made by students in expository essays are still very diverse.

Abstract

Social studies is one of the subjects taught in elementary schools and is also a problem for students to understand the material that is in the social studies itself. The main problem that was found was how to learn it. The way of learning that is carried out by this social studies teacher always focuses on himself so that the ability or potential of the students is prevented from developing. In this problem, finally, there is a solution to be able to overcome this, one way is to use the Index card match and Card Sort learning strategies. This research was carried out employing a quantitative descriptive type of literature study or literature study in which data was obtained from scientific archive records, articles, journals, books, and the like then analyzed and the conclusions were sought which could be taken as data and which were not drawn. The results also show that the learning strategy Index card match and Card Sort are effective in social studies lessons in elementary schools. The use of Index card match and Card Sort learning strategies is also good and can be applied in all subjects in elementary schools and can improve student learning outcomes

Abstract

Understanding the content of reading text in elementary school can be helped by determining the element of paragraph. This study aims to determine of fourth grades at SDN Semanan 04 Pagi in determining the paragraph elements in the reading text. This study uses a qualitative approach using a qualitative descriptive method. The research subjects in this study were 21 students in grade IV. The research instrument used was in the form of tests and interviews conducted on students. This study obtained analysis results which stated that students' ability to determine paragraph elements in reading texts was quite good because on average students were able to find 3-4 paragraph elements correctly. The students’ ability in finding main sentences, explanatory sentences, and affirmative sentences on tests 1, 2, and 3 showed a fairly good ability, while students’ abilities in determining transitions on tests 1, 2, and 3 showed poor abilities. The factors that cause students’ difficulties in determining the elements of paragraphs are lack of understanding of the material, lazy to study, lack of interest and motivation in student learning, no self-motivation to learn, and lack of practice in understanding the meaning of reading texts

Abstract

This research is based on something that is often overlooked in learning, one of which is when writing an essay, which is not paying close attention to the use of capital letters. This research aims to understand the use of capital letters in students' descriptive essays and to find appropriate teaching materials to anticipate errors in the use of capital letters. The approach used in this study is synchronous, for the research method the researcher uses the method of language error analysis which in collecting data the researcher uses a technique, namely document analysis techniques. Researchers found 5 bad uses of capital letters, namely capital letters are used as an escort for the first letter at the beginning of a sentence, capital letters are the first letters in an element of a human name, one of which is nicknames, this capital letter is used as the first letter of the names of months, years, and days. Holidays and other major holidays, capital letters are used for the first letter of geographic names, capital letters are used as the first letters in an historical name event. From the results of an analysis of student descriptions, it was found that 21 errors in the use of capital letters were found, one of which was 9 in the use of capital letters as the main letter at the beginning of the sentence, 6 errors in the use of capital letters as the main letter of the elements of naming people including designations, 2 errors in the use of capital letters used as the main letter of the name of the month, day, year, big day or holiday, 3 errors in the use of capital letters used for the first letter of geographic naming, 1 error in the use of this letter is used as the main letter of the event and naming elements in history. Furthermore, a material in learning is made, namely giving LKS to students, namely showing a description essay that does not use capital letters very well.
