Abstract

In this pandemic era, social media plays a significant role for students, both as a means of communication and seeking entertainment. The learning system uses e-learning and WhatsApp groups as a medium of communication between lecturers and students. The student participation is monitored through how the students are active in discussions on WhatsApp groups and timeliness in completing assignments. This condition makes students spend a lot of time using social media particularly WhatsApp in their daily lives and using Instagram, YouTube, and TikTok as entertainment media. This study aimed to see how gender, age, and personality influence student achievement during this pandemic with dependency on social media as a mediating variable. In this study, the dependent variable was student achievement and the independent variable was personality and demographic factors. Knowing the relationship between these variables was done by using the PLS analysis tool. Based on statistical tests, it was known that addiction to social media could not mediate the relationship between demographic factors and student achievement. Personality could affect achievement indirectly by being mediated by dependency on social media. This condition could occur because in the pandemic all kinds of communications related to academic activities were carried out using WhatsApp group as social media. It means the more students are fully involved in the WhatsApp group, the more knowledge will be gained. Thus, it could help students completing assignments and exams. While the consequence of this was the frequency of time spent on social media was increasing.

Abstract

In Indonesia, numerous young retail investors exhibit a lack of adequate financial knowledge and comprehension of investment fundamentals, potentially resulting in suboptimal investment choices and heightened financial exposure. This research seeks to examine how financial literacy, herding, risk perception, and attitude toward investment can enhance the decision-making process for students in investments, enabling them to make more educated and self-assured selections in financial markets. The study employed non-probability purposive sampling, involving 84 Generation Z participants. Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Square (PLS) via SmartPLS. The findings reveal that financial literacy positively and significantly influences investment decision-making. Conversely, herding does not have a substantial impact on investment choices. Risk perception demonstrates a significant negative effect on investment decision-making, whilst attitude towards investment shows a significant positive influence. The study also found that attitude towards investment does not mediate the relationship between financial literacy and investment decision-making, nor does it mediate the impact of risk perception on investment decisions. However, it does mediate the influence of herding on investment decision-making. These outcomes contribute to a more comprehensive understanding of how each antecedent variable affects the decision-making processes of Generation Z students, offering valuable insights for educators, policymakers, and financial institutions aiming to improve investment education and support for young investors.

This study aims to explore the impact of visitor satisfaction on tourist attractions in East Java, focusing on factors that influence tourism sharing behavior. The sample of this study was obtained as many as 100 respondents. The analysis method used is Structural Equation Modeling Partial Least Squares (SEM PLS 3.0). The study found that cultural attractions had no effect on tourism sharing behavior, and general attractions had no effect on tourism sharing behavior. Cultural attractions affect visitor satisfaction (Tourist), public attractions affect visitor satisfaction (Tourist), and visitor satisfaction (Tourist) is able to mediate a strong influence between variations in variables of General Attraction and Cultural Attractions on Tourism sharing behavior. The findings of this study prove that when travelers feel satisfied with the attractions displayed, they will share with others in their community. The implication of these findings is the importance of paying attention to visitor satisfaction factors in the management of tourist attractions, as well as considering cultural and general attractions as important factors in improving the tourist experience in East Java.

Abstract

The increasingly competitive business environment has a negative impact on company performance. Companies are expected to create strategic competitiveness to maintain their competitive advantage and sustain their performance. Strategic change is a company's effort to adapt to a competitive environment. Additionally, changes in the external environment create environmental uncertainty, which can further deteriorate company performance. Therefore, strategic change becomes the primary choice for companies to improve performance when environmental uncertainty increases. This study aims to analyze the effect of strategic change on company performance and the role of environmental uncertainty in moderating this relationship. Using purposive sampling, this study utilizes data from 503 manufacturing companies that are listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange from 2016 to 2020. Multiple linear regression and moderated regression analyses are employed as the analytical techniques. The results of this study indicate that strategic change has a positive and significant effect on company performance, and environmental uncertainty strengthens this influence.
