Abstract

Reading ability is one of the abilities that students must master at elementary school level. This research aims to improve students' reading skills by using picture cards as media. This research is a mixed research type of classroom action research. The design used is the Kemmis & Mc Taggart design with four steps, namely planning, action, observation and reflection. The focus of this research was on 12 male and 11 female students who were in class 1 of SDN 017 Petung, Penajam Paser Utara. Data was collected using interview, observation and test techniques. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistical techniques. The results of classroom actions show that using picture cards can help students read better. The results of the first cycle test show this: 15 out of 23 students achieved individual completion with a classical acceptance rate of 63.75% and a classical pass rate of 55.00% at the initial stage. However, in the second cycle, the test results showed that 20 out of 23 students succeeded in achieving individual completeness, with an average score of 9.95 and achieving classical completeness of 95%. Grade 1 students at SDN 017 Petung Penajam Paser Utara can use picture cards to improve their reading skills. The research results showed that the activities of teachers and students during learning activities showed an increase in the category from adequate in cycle I to very good in cycle II. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the use of picture cards is effective in improving students' reading skills.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the effectiveness of the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach in enhancing student learning motivation in mathematics at MIN 1 Banda Aceh. Low motivation among students in mathematics learning has been a persistent challenge, often resulting in decreased engagement and suboptimal learning outcomes. To address this issue, a Classroom Action Research (CAR) was conducted over two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection phases. The participants were 28 fourth-grade students who exhibited varying levels of interest and performance in mathematics. The RME approach, which emphasizes contextual learning and the use of real-life situations to make abstract mathematical concepts more relatable, was implemented through a series of structured learning activities. Data collection methods included observation, student motivation questionnaires, interviews, and documentation. The results demonstrated a significant increase in students' motivation, as evidenced by higher participation rates, improved attitudes towards mathematics, and greater enthusiasm during classroom discussions and group activities. Quantitative analysis showed an increase in the average motivation score from 63.2% in the pre-cycle to 78.5% in the first cycle, and further to 89.4% in the second cycle. Qualitative findings supported these results, revealing that students were more actively involved, collaborative, and confident in solving mathematical problems when learning was linked to real-world contexts. In conclusion, the Realistic Mathematics Education approach proved to be an effective pedagogical strategy for improving student learning motivation in mathematics. It is recommended that educators adopt RME principles to create meaningful and engaging learning experiences that resonate with students’ everyday lives. Future research may explore the long-term impact of RME on students' academic achievement and its adaptability across different educational settings.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the limited learning media that can attract students' attention when learning thematic lessons. This research aims to develop bulletin media for thematic learning that is feasible and practical for elementary school students. The research method used is Research and Development using the ADDIE model. The results of the research show that the use of thematic learning bulletin media for class five of State Islamic Primary School 8 Aceh Barat Daya is considered very good for media experts 87%, material experts 75% (good) and language experts 85% (very good). Meanwhile, response data was obtained from 90% of small class teachers (very practical), 92% of large class teachers (very practical). For student response data, 95% of small class students and 95.5% of large class students were obtained and were considered very practical. Based on research results, it shows that the thematic learning bulletin media for class five of State Islamic Primary School 8 Aceh Barat Daya is very practical for use by teachers and students in the teaching and learning process in class

Abstract

A solid understanding of the recitation rules of Alif Lam Syamsiyah and Alif Lam Qamariyah by students is crucial for improving their Qur’anic reading skills. However, many students still face difficulties in identifying and applying these rules. This study aimed to enhance students’ understanding of the recitation rules of Alif Lam Syamsiyah and Alif Lam Qamariyah through the implementation of practice-based learning methods combined with audiovisual media. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, involving seven seventh-grade students at SMP Negeri 3 Kaway XVI, West Aceh Regency. Data were collected through written tests, Qur’anic reading practice tests, and student engagement observations. The results revealed a significant improvement in understanding. In the pre-cycle, only five students scored ≥80; in the first cycle, all students achieved scores ≥80 with an average of 90.48; while in the second cycle, all students scored above 90 with an average of 98.09. Serial correlation analysis yielded a coefficient of 0.534, exceeding the r-table value (0.354 at the 1% level), indicating a significant relationship between rule comprehension and reading skills. The contribution of recitation rule comprehension to students’ reading ability reached 28.51%. Thus, practice-based learning methods integrated with audiovisual media proved effective in enhancing students’ tajweed understanding and Qur’anic reading skills.
