Abstract

The strengthening of academic culture in urban Madrasah Aliyah has become an urgent agenda amid increasing institutional competition, public accountability demands, and the transformation of Islamic secondary education in Indonesia. While numerous studies have addressed school quality improvement, limited research specifically examines how Total Quality Management (TQM) is systematically operationalized to construct a sustainable academic culture within urban madrasah settings. This study aims to explore and critically analyze the implementation of TQM principles in strengthening a sustainable academic culture across selected urban madrasah contexts. Using a qualitative multiple case study approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with principals, teachers, and quality assurance teams, supported by classroom observation and institutional document analysis. The findings demonstrate that academic culture strengthening is not merely programmatic but structurally embedded through five interrelated dimensions: visionary leadership grounded in quality commitment, continuous improvement in pedagogical practices, data-driven evaluation systems, collaborative teamwork mechanisms, and integration of Islamic values with academic performance standards. The study argues that TQM in urban madrasah functions as a cultural transformation framework rather than a managerial tool alone. This research contributes to the development of Islamic education management by contextualizing TQM within the sociocultural dynamics of urban madrasah and offering an integrative model that bridges managerial efficiency with value-based educational orientation. The findings offer both conceptual refinement and practical implications for enhancing a competitive yet value-driven academic culture in Islamic secondary education institutions.

Abstract

The integration of digital technology in 21st-century education demands innovative, student-centered learning, yet Arabic speaking instruction at MI Adabiyah 2 Palembang remains teacher-centered with limited digital media, resulting in low student creativity and participation. Theoretically, discovery learning encourages active knowledge construction and creative thinking, while TikTok provides interactive visual-auditory stimulation. This study aims to determine the improvement in students’ creativity through discovery learning-based speaking instruction using TikTok as a learning medium. A mixed-methods approach with a one-group pretest-posttest design was employed, involving 28 fourth-grade students. Quantitative data were collected through pretests, posttests, and creativity questionnaires, while qualitative data were obtained from observations, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the mean pretest score of 54.29 increased to 82.43 in the posttest, with a paired-sample t-test indicating a significant improvement (p < 0.001). The N-Gain score of 62.48% fell into the moderate or fairly effective category. In conclusion, discovery learning-based speaking instruction using TikTok media is effective in improving students’ creativity. It is recommended that teachers integrate interactive digital media and student-centered models to create more innovative and creative Arabic language learning. Perkembangan teknologi digital dalam pendidikan abad ke-21 menuntut pembelajaran yang inovatif dan berpusat pada siswa, namun pembelajaran berbicara bahasa Arab di MI Adabiyah 2 Palembang masih berpusat pada guru dengan keterbatasan media digital, sehingga kreativitas dan partisipasi siswa rendah. Secara teoretis, discovery learning mendorong siswa aktif membangun pengetahuan dan berpikir kreatif, sedangkan TikTok menyediakan stimulus visual-auditori yang interaktif. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peningkatan kreativitas siswa melalui pembelajaran berbicara berbasis discovery learning menggunakan media TikTok. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan mixed methods dengan desain one-group pretest-posttest yang melibatkan 28 siswa kelas IV. Data kuantitatif dikumpulkan melalui pretest, posttest, dan angket kreativitas, sedangkan data kualitatif diperoleh dari observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata pretest 54,29 meningkat menjadi 82,43 pada posttest, dengan uji paired-sample t-test menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan (p < 0,001). Nilai N-Gain sebesar 62,48% termasuk dalam kategori sedang atau cukup efektif. Kesimpulannya, pembelajaran berbicara berbasis discovery learning menggunakan media TikTok efektif dalam meningkatkan kreativitas siswa. Guru disarankan untuk mengintegrasikan media digital interaktif dan model pembelajaran berpusat pada siswa guna menciptakan pembelajaran bahasa Arab yang lebih inovatif dan kreatif.

Abstract

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into higher education is accelerating, yet generic competency frameworks fail to address the unique needs of students in specialized fields, particularly Arabic language learners in Islamic universities. This study addresses this critical gap by proposing a tailored AI Competency Framework designed to equip these students with the skills to navigate an AI-augmented world while upholding their theological and ethical commitments. Employing a digital library research methodology, this paper conducts a systematic literature review and thematic synthesis of scholarship from AI in education and Arabic pedagogy. The resulting framework comprises five interconnected dimensions: (1) Human-Centered Thinking, which grounds technology use in spiritual and intellectual values; (2) AI Ethics, providing a moral guardrail aligned with Islamic principles; (3) AI Techniques and Applications, building practical, tool-specific skills; (4) Domain-Specific AI System Design, fostering an innovative, problem-solving mindset; and (5) AI in Basic Arabic Language Learning, which applies these competencies to core language skills. This framework offers a practical model for universities to integrate AI ethically and effectively, ensuring graduates are not only proficient in Arabic but are also prepared to be responsible stewards of technology in the service of their faith and scholarship.
