Abstract

The incident of the suicide bombing in front of the Makassar Cathedral Church and the attack on the National Police Headquarters became news topics that attracted media attention. Each media has a policy in the interpretation scheme to fight for meaning according to the media’s point of view. This study aims to explore the meaning and framing of radicalism, jihad, and terrorism in the suicide bombing in front of the Makassar Cathedral Church and the attack on the National Police Headquarters. A qualitative method with a semantic analysis approach is used to determine the meaning, and a thematic approach in viewing the framing of the formation of radical concepts, jihad, and terrorism. The results showed that Islamic online media in providing meaning and framing did not conceptually and specifically discuss radicalism, jihad, and terrorism. However, they view it as a stigma and a label used in an effort to corner and marginalize Islamic groups. The implications of this research can be used as evaluation material for related parties in overcoming the spread of radicalism, jihad, and terrorism.

Abstract

The habit of sharing travel experiences on social media is increasingly attached to modern life today, making the theme of User Generated Content (UGC) in tourism never be uninteresting topic to research. Research on UGC in tourism grew 30.31% over the last 10 years. This study uses a bibliometric approach to analyze the database from Scopus with the keyword "User Generated Content" AND Tourism, in the period 2014 – 2023. 504 documents were found from the database and use PRISMA to select, narrowing it down to 321 documents that were used as units of analysis. The application "Biblioshiny R package Bibliometrix" is used for data analysis and visualization. The results showed that the theme with “online”, “findings” and “reviews”, is still a research trend in the future.

Abstract

Communication is a strategic element in supporting the effectiveness of participatory and accountable village governance. However, several issues remain, including the low interpersonal communication skills of village officials, weak internal coordination, and the suboptimal use of digital communication technologies. Therefore, this activity aims to enhance the communication competencies of village apparatus through systematically and applicatively designed training. The methods employed include lectures, discussions, and practical simulations of governmental communication. The training materials cover understanding public service communication at the village level, interpersonal communication and internal coordination, the use of village communication media (e.g., WhatsApp, village websites, social media), public message formulation and information management, and simulations of public service communication with citizens. Participants consisted of village heads, secretaries, hamlet heads, neighborhood leaders (RT/RW), and public service staff. Evaluation results show a significant improvement in participants’ communication understanding and skills, with an average increase from 48.2% before training to 81.4% after training. Village officials became more skilled in delivering information, utilizing digital media, and engaging in empathetic and effective communication with the community. These findings affirm that enhancing communication capacity is a key component in building responsive, transparent, and participatory village governance, in line with good governance principles in local development. Furthermore, the training encouraged officials to become more adaptive in conveying information efficiently and promptly.

Abstract

Rapid disaster response is necessary since it involves various stakeholders in disaster. However, rapid response is difficult to implement due to structural constraints and organizational hierarchy.  This research aims to reveal structural constraints to crisis communication management in the internal organization of the Transportation Ministry. Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) approaches offer a framework to understand management in general in responding to crisis situation.  This research uses a qualitative method with case study approaches. The results of this research show that in the pre-crisis phase the organization serves as media for sections at the Transportation Ministry to interact in monitoring potential crisis.  In the crisis and post-crisis response phases, the establishment of an Ad Hoc Crisis Communication Team (TKK) has changed the organization from being under stringent hierarchic structure to being more flexible and responsive in crisis response. This research gives contributions to more dynamic crisis communication management, recommends the formulation of Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in crisis communication management, starting from pre-crisis, crisis to post-crisis response phases, and gives guidance to government and non-government organizations in crisis communication management.
