Bogangin Village, located in Sumpiuh Subdistrict, has great potential in the freshwater fisheries sector, particularly in catfish farming. However, the limited knowledge and skills of the community—especially the Women Farmers Group (KWT)—in processing fishery products into high-value economic commodities remain a challenge. This community service activity aims to improve the ability of KWT members to process catfish into shredded fish (abon) as a value-added product with high market potential and long shelf life. The methods used include counseling, hands-on training in making shredded catfish, business management assistance, and digital marketing strategies. The results show an 85% increase in participants’ knowledge and skills, as well as the emergence of an initiative from the KWT to establish a joint household-scale business. This activity has made a tangible contribution to women’s economic empowerment and the strengthening of local potential based on village resources. Keywords: Women Farmers Group (KWT), Shredded Catfish, Women’s Empowerment, Local Potential, Village Economy.

Abstract

Diabetes is a metabolic condition characterized by chronic hyperglycemia due to decreased insulin synthesis or insulin resistance. The prevalence of type 2 diabetes mellitus in Central Java has increased by 0.5%. The aim of this study was to determine the relationship between medication adherence and therapeutic outcomes in outpatients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital. The study used a non-experimental method with an analytical and descriptive cross-sectional design and a prospective approach (observing respondent adherence) for 3 months of treatment. The level of adherence to drug therapy in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at the Outpatient Installation of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital was dominated by the category of moderately adherent (70 patients) , non-adherent (28 patients) , and adherent (2 patients) . The results of the Spearman rho statistical test indicated a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05) for both outcome parameters (HbA1c and GDS). The correlation between adherence scores and HbA1c was -0.830 (a very strong correlation), while the correlation with GDS was -0.463 (a moderately strong correlation). There was a significant correlation between medication adherence and therapeutic outcomes in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at the Outpatient Unit of PKU Muhammadiyah Gombong Hospital.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a global metabolic disorder characterized by chronic hyperglycemia. While conventional oral antidiabetics are effective, their long-term use is associated with adverse side effects, necessitating the search for safer alternatives from natural sources. Belitung taro (Xanthosoma sagittifolium) is a locally abundant tuber crop in Indonesia, but its stems are typically discarded as agricultural by-products despite their potential bioactive content. This study evaluated the antidiabetic potential of X. sagittifolium stem extract by investigating its α-amylase inhibitory activity through an integrative in silico and in vitro approach. In silico screening was performed on eight secondary metabolites from the CMAUP database, filtered based on Lipinski's Rule of Five and ADMET profiles using the pkCSM server. The lead compound, NPC141921, was docked into human pancreatic α-amylase (PDB ID: 2QV4) using AutoDock, validated by redocking acarbose. The ethanol extract was subjected to phytochemical screening and tested for α-amylase inhibition using the iodine-starch assay. NPC141921 showed a binding free energy of -6.13 kcal/mol, comparable to acarbose (-6.66 kcal/mol), forming stable hydrogen bonds with catalytic residues (ASP197, GLU233, ASP300) and substrate-binding residues (ARG195, HIS305). Phytochemical screening confirmed flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and steroids, supporting the in silico predictions. In vitro assays revealed an IC₅₀ of 5028 ppm for the stem extract versus 1953 ppm for acarbose. Although the crude extract showed lower potency due to matrix dilution effects, the findings confirm that X. sagittifolium stems contain bioactive metabolites capable of α-amylase inhibition, highlighting their potential as a natural ingredient for hyperglycemia management.

Abstract

Long-term use of synthetic antidiabetic drugs often causes side effects, prompting the search for safer herbal alternatives. Ageratum conyzoides and Cyperus rotundus are known for their antihyperglycemic properties, but studies on their combination remain limited. To evaluate the antihyperglycemic effect of combined ethanol extracts of A. conyzoides leaves and C. rotundus rhizomes in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rats. Male white rats were divided into nine groups: control, single extract, and combination treatments (100:200 and 150:500 mg/kg BW). Treatments were given orally for 15 days, and blood glucose levels were measured periodically. Data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey's post hoc test. The combination of A. conyzoides and C. rotundus (150:500 mg/kg BW) significantly reduced blood glucose levels, comparable to glimepiride (p < 0.05 vs. negative control; p > 0.05 vs. positive control). Single extracts showed moderate effects in a dose-dependent manner. The combination of A. conyzoides and C. rotundus extracts exhibited synergistic antihyperglycemic activity, suggesting potential as a safe phytotherapeutic alternative for diabetes management.
