Abstract

Abstract

Eggs are perfect foodstuffs because they contain nutrients such as protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals in sufficient quantities. Under certain conditions, the complete nutritional content in eggs can be a good growth medium for microorganisms. It is important to educate the community about how to differentiate egg quality and how to store eggs properly so that people can choose and get eggs of good quality in the long term. The benefit is that they can be more careful in choosing the eggs to buy, and know-how to store eggs properly so that the egg's shelf life can last longer. This education was carried out online during the Covid-19 pandemic Work From Home (WFH) period using the Zoom meet application. The participants in this counseling consisted of housewives and students.

Abstract

The prevention of COVID-19 widespread needs to be understood by the community, especially people who unfortunately have to work face to face with buyers, such as meat traders in local markets. It is important to ensure them understanding the prevention of COVID-19 so they can keep having income with a minimum chance of being infected by COVID-19. The purpose of this community service is to increase the awareness of pork trader group participation in Kasih Market, Naikoten, Kupang City, East Nusa Tenggara Province in preventing the COVID-19 widespread by doing physical distancing and wearing masks. The method of implementing this community service is the distribution of questionnaires (pretest and posttest form) and socialization. The pre-socialization questionnaire was given to know pork traders’ knowledge about physical distancing and mask usage. The socialization was delivered by explaining how to do correct physical distancing and mask usage. The post-socialization questionnaire was given as the indicator of the success of the community service. The questionnaire results showed a significant increase in pork traders’ understanding of physical distancing, from around 67% to 92%, and the understanding of masks usage, from around 42% to 92%. Therefore, it is hoped that the pork traders can apply the knowledge correctly and participate in preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the market.

Abstract

Eggs are one of the main livestock products apart from meat and milk which make the biggest contribution to achieving adequate nutrition in society. Eggs as a food ingredient have many advantages, such as the high nutritional content of eggs, especially in terms of protein and the relatively cheap price of eggs compared to other protein sources. However, eggs also have disadvantages, such as being easily damaged if not handled properly. Contamination of chicken eggs has a very important role in the incidence of diseases caused by the eggs themselves. Eggs are easily damaged, both physical damage and damage caused by microbial growth. The availability of eggs that are always available and have high nutritional value must be balanced with public knowledge about egg quality and egg handling to slow down the decline in egg quality because the nature of eggs is easily damaged, does not last long and quickly declines in quality. Through proper education, people can understand the importance of consuming eggs, storing eggs correctly, selecting good eggs and maintaining the cleanliness and integrity of eggs as preventive measures against diseases originating from egg contaminants.

Abstract

Pig population in East Nusa Tenggara Province in 2019 was recorded at around 2 million pigs. In east Nusa Tenggara around 85% of the households raise at least 1 (one) pig per household. Pig farming industry has its own challenges and resistances, one of the challenge is the threat of infectious diseases such as Hog cholera disease. Hog cholera is a disease caused by virus and has become endemic in most of the area in East Nusa Tenggara with relatively high prevalence. In Kupang City the prevalence of HC in 2018 was recorded at around 20,5%. The aim of this study is to analyse the relationship of pig farmer characteristics with knowledge level, attitude and practice regarding HC controlling and eradication in Kota Raja Sub-distric Kupang City. In this study, data was obtained by questionnaire and interview of pig farmers which was done in Kota Raja Sub-distric from August until October 2018. Data was analyzed with descriptive statistic and KAP studi data was analyzed with path analysis to measure the relationship between observed characteristics and HC controlling practice. The result of this study shows that variable that has the stongest relationship to practice is level of education with path coefficient (r) of -0,438 (P 0,027), followed by attitude with path coefficient (r) of 0,233 (P 0,000), and then followed by knowledge with path coefficient (r) of 0,224 (P 0,008) and the weakest realationship to practice is farmers age with path coefficient (r) of -0,049 (P 0,016).

Abstract

Pigs have a very important value for the people in NTT. Apart from being farm animals that have economic value, pigs also have an important role in the socio-cultural and religious life in NTT. Given its important role for the community, pigs need serious attention to avoid various disease threats, one of which is Hog cholera (HC). One of the effective ways to prevent HC disease that can be done is by implementing strict biosecurity and sanitation. The purpose of this research is to learn how the practice of biosecurity and sanitation by pig farmers is one of the most important efforts in preventing the spread of HC disease in the Kota Raja Sub-District, Kupang City. The data in this study were obtained through direct interviews with pig farmers in the Kota Raja Sub-District, Kupang City, and analyzed with descriptive statistics. The results showed that the level of HC vaccination was still low at 10.9%, and there were still many farmers who carried out risky practices for HC transmission such as consuming or trading pigs that died from sickness 29.1%, throwing away pig carcasses that died from sickness 5%, back yard slaughtering 40%, disposing of slaughtering waste into the environment 9.1%. In conclusion, the practice of biosecurity and sanitation carried out by pig farmers in the Kota Raja Sub-District, Kupang City still needs to be improved. There are still some pig farmers who practice practices that are risky for disease transmission in pigs, especially Hog cholera.
